Has Fabian Delph signed for Aston Villa? No he hasn't

Tuesday, 13 January 09, 03:26 PM · Comments (62)

I'm sitting down watching an episode of The Wire when all I see on my PC is a flashing conversation and it keeps flashing. Luke tells me he has found something and I think he might be right.

If you go to Google and search for 'fabian delph villa' look what shows up in result three or four. If you can't be arsed, click here, for his profile on the official Aston Villa Football Club website.

Now, I'm not so sure this is going to happen but the club putting up his profile does suggest they know something so I'd hazard a guess we might be getting our first announcement tomorrow morning, if it does turn out to be true.

For those that don't know, Delph is 19 years old, he is currently at Leeds and has represented England at U-19 and U-21 level. He's also a midfielder, which we are clearly crying out for.

Anyway, if anyone knows anything about the player that isn't on Wikipedia, please feel free to comment about it below, but don't be surprised if this doesn't happen as there has been zero speculation and no announcement from the club, hence me filing it under speculation.

Notice: It turns out this is a cock up. Click here for an explanation. I'll keep this post up though just as another reason why the club should bring managing the website and content in house.

That is weird, but sounds like it might have been an error made by an agency - I'm guessing that's an automated part of the villa site with content provided by an outside source. If you look elsewhere on Google Leeds are saying his name disappeared from their website because of a technical error.

This from the Yorkshire Post earlier:
"But the League One club have confirmed that technical issues involving PA Sport, who listed the midfielder as an England Under-21 player instead of a United player, were responsible for the oversight. His profile has now been restored to their website."

Damian...you'd like to think that if the Marketing team at Villa Park have had a memo to upload a player profile you'd be fair to assume he was on our player roster....wouldn't you?

I've seen the lad play a few games or Leeds (albeit in League One) and he's clearly the stand-out talent at LUFC at the moment.

Another MON youngster that will probably take a year or two to settle down to the Premier League...but what do I know...I liked Savo!!

Pesky agencies. Get the Marketing team in-house and install me as Head of Analytics. I almost took a job last year doing the same for Chelsea FC...I'm not sure I could've looked myself in the mirror.

Forgery and deception?? By whom? Their database feeds the squad lists. Therefore he must've had been listed as a Villa player. I work with databases and live feeds every day. If anyone hacked the datbase, it must've been at PA not Villa.

Fair enough if someone responible for supplying the raw data for PA Databases thought it'd be funny to stick him to Villa...good on them. I'd pay £3-4m for the lad with a stipulation of rising to £7 should he feature in a Champions League campaign and so many 1st team appearances.

What's this rumour that Santa Cruz would rather join the Villa?

BillyBOY
18. BillyBOY Wrote: | 23.58GMT | Jan 13, 2009

Santa Cruz would never rather play for Villa than Man City!!! He's worth no more than 8mil in my opinion. Kenwyn? Jones is just what we need and alot cheaper than Santa Cruz would cost.
I'd like K.Jones, Lescott and Kightly, all challenging for a starting place, relegating Harewood and Shorey off the bench to another club, (good luck to them also) then maybe n'zogbia, johnson from Man city and some other young prospect as cover. I believe we can really challenge for a champions league place this season, ahead of the plan, so we need to strenghten NOW!! YWC

Question for you all..

When Villa won the cup in '82, the players were decked out in Nike boots. This was a momumental stage in the development and popularity of Nike Football boots.
I believe there was even an advert.. does anyone have any other information about this?

"England Aston Villa soccer team wins the English and European Cup championships in nike shox new soccer shoe. The Apparel line grows to nearly 200 styles and $70 million with the help of inventive, functional designs. nike shox total revenues are $693.6 million. The are 3,600 employees worldwide."
- From some random site.
Sorry to be off topic, Damien. I'm very curious about this. I recon Nike owes us.. look at them now! And they couldn't have done it without the claret and blue!

Times: Aston Villa and Liverpool are monitoring Herita Ilunga, the Toulouse left-back who is on loan at West Ham.

Telegraph: Villa have joined Arsenal, Tottenham and French champions Lyon in showing interest in Newcastle's unsettled Charles N'Zogbia.

Yeah that Drogba link has to be a joke. No way Chelsea would sell one of their two strikers, especially for £9m.

I don't think we'll see very much this window, but if we do i'll stick my neck out and say we'll probably see two players at the most join. I have a worrying feeling that in the end they won't be the two that O'Neill would want.

As far as tranfers are concerned I would be happy with Kenwynne Jones at up to £6m, and a swap of Shorey plus £12m for Bale and Bent. That would sure up the bench, then buy the right back and midfielder end of season and get rid of the excess (Harewood, Osbourne and Salifou).

Just one thing on the rumours that have been circulating...Big John is apparently closer to a return than previously thought. Is this because he has to be fit to join another team? I have heard from many Everton fans that there is a bit of "smoke" about a possible Carew deal. Also, is it just coincidence that John was supposed to be out until May? Again another transfer window period (with time for one or two games to boost his value)? A few people on here have mentioned that something is a bit fishy there with Carew (not just the scent of the strippers g either). I think that this may be the reason why he only lasts for a season or two, he comes in shows dedication then has a good season, then he gets comfortable and plays up....would be nice to be wrong but i just have a feeling that we may not see Big John again in the claret and blue.....if we can net Arteta in return somehow i wont be that upset, even Cahill, that would certainly soften the blow...

There are two parts to this though - yes, you can edit the link with the players ID number for the web host's database but that only explains how people can wind each other up.

Luke - correct me if I'm wrong but I take it you looked up 'Fabian Delph Villa' because of the Leeds site web chat... i.e. prompted by rumour that FB was discussing a move with Villa and Stoke. It's all very well us editing links and posting them to each other but that's quite different from changing the links in the Aston Villa site. If you were going to do that, why would you do it for Delph to Villa? It's just so... low key. Why wouldn't you make it one of the players in this thread, such as Owen, Martins or Tuncay? Or make the buying team an emotive one - Leeds to Man U?

Delph to Villa, yawn, hardly worth a bit of sabotage. The Gabby one to Man U would have been interesting (or arresting, heart-wise). Now the one I did to start these Kaka to Man City rumours, THAT was worthwhile ;) . I think the ease of creating your own link gives a useful get out to the plums doing the web host.

So... welcome aboard Fabian, great to have you in the squad for next year. As we'll probably be loaning you back to Leeds, we're in no hurry to announce all the details so may not be formalised for a week or so.

Or maybe not :)
