Hughes and Davis lead historic Irish victory!

Thursday, 08 September 05, 10:27 AM · Comments (0)

Well, a night most Northern Ireland fans will never forget took place last night at Windsor Park, Belfast.

A 74th minute strike from Leeds striker David Healy, put through by a superb Steven Davis ball, was enough for the province to see off England.

A solid defensive display from captain Aaron Hughes and a more than capable midfield performance from Steven Davis helped their nation, ranked 116th in the world rankings, to beat Sven Boring-Eriksson's men, who are currently ranked 6th.

Davis' excellent through ball to Healy on 74 was finished with the best strike of the game and will imprint a memory in the heads of the eleven men in green for the rest of their lives.

Was Davis' superb display more proof that he's Northern Ireland's answer to Frank Lampard? Well, Lampard hardly put in anything more than an England B performance in last nights proceedings.

On another note, every international team with a Villa player in last night won. Maybe England are missing something, particularly on that left flank.
