Hughes rumoured to be at Fulham having a medical

Wednesday, 20 June 07, 10:20 AM · Comments (13)

It's a rumour and nobody will confirm anything right now but it is thought that Aaron Hughes is at Fulham's training facility Motspur Park having a medical.

Now, if Hughes has gone I wouldn't be that disappointed only because I'm convinced Martin O'Neill has something lined up.

Somebody mentioned something in an earlier post in the commenting section, that Martin O'Neill wouldn't tell the interviewer about who his targets are, because he'd laugh. After reading that and looking at the clip, it makes me think we're really going after the big names.

So, if Aaron Hughes is at Fulham; good luck. He'll do a solid job for Fulham as he can cover pretty much all defensive positions and doesn't mind getting forward.

Rumour likelihood: I'd bet money on this happening and wouldn't be surprised if Steven Davis followed, just not sure if he's actually having a medical or is even in the country.

O'Neill wouldnt let all these players (Samuel,Hughes,McCann,Angel,Hendrie)go unless there was something in the pipeline. Expect big and expect the unexpected! O'Neill is such a pulling factor that I feel the big names wont mind a season out of Europe, if they are well advised they know it wont be long before thay are competing with the bigger clubs. Expect players with the calibre of Sneijder, Huntelaar, Forlan, Appiah etc...

Nothing's done 'till it's done - but from a Fulham perspective this could be real good, solid business.
Must add Villa appear very realistic & honourable to deal with - refreshing change!
Would love to get hold of Luke Moore - feel he's going to have a big season for you guys '07/'08.
Steven Davis? Yes please if 'surplus to requirements!'

I have total faith in MON and also the new board. Non of them have given us any reason to question them yet.
We as supporters are impatient at the best of times but when it comes to spending other peoples money we are at our worst. I would love to see some signings but I believe MON is only letting these players leave knowing he has something better replacing them.
Samuel won't be hard to replace, a three year old kid could do better, Whittingham won't be hard to replace as a squad player. JPA was basically replaced with the arrival of John Carew - Baros didn't need replacing as Gabby & Luke had already done that for him. Henders had been out of the team for best part of 2 years so we have replaced him with the likes of Steven Davies & Petrov. If Davies goes we will have lost 2 good midfielders in Davies and MaCann that need replacing. If Hughes goes we don't have a right full back who is contracted to AVFC, so he definately needs replacing. Lets hope Delaney gets fit and signs a 1 year extention to help us out.
MON has money to spend, hopefully he has his targets pre-qualified as to whether they will play for Villa before letting these lads go. If you think since MON has been here and we had a really small squad to start with we have seen the following leave
Whittingham, JPA, Baros, Hendrie, Djemba-Djemba (About to go), Samuel, Milner (loan I know), MaCann. We have only signed Petrov, Sutton (is he going to play again?), Young, Maloney & Carew.
Lets hope MON is the busiest manager in the transfer market this summer.

Charlton have just signed france's u21 captain, (who happens to be a right back). It wouldn't surprise me if this is to pave the way for luke young to leave, and it wouldn't surprise me further if we went in for him. Might not be the best around but he wouldn't be a bad signing and is british.

MON's track record is pretty decent. Apart from Petrov everyone else has done well for us.

Petrov's shown glimses of what he can do, but it is a bit of a step up from the SPL and he might not be able to have the desired impact.

I'm stunned that you all have this blind faith in MON. May I remind you of Kiraly. Would trying Olejnik have been worse? When the squad thinned, did he recall Hendrie & DJ-DJ? No he played kids & we struggled. Making Barry captain means he ties up a midfield spot, because he can't be dropped. Now the squad is being reduced even more. I hope to be proved VERY wrong, but at the moment I have severe doubts on this bright future nonsense.

Gardener can play there and Mellberg did well when he has covered. Ashley was the best player at the Euro U21s and everyone thought 10mill was too much. Have faith people

C'mon Mapka - the 'blind faith' we all have is because of the great leaps forward we've taken under the new management. Would we have been linked with half these players when under Deadly and O'Dreary? Nope. Now we're being linked with Babel (see him last night? Break the bank MON please!) and Forlan. Let Hughes go, lets spend some ££ and lets keep going forward!

Mapka, Barry was our most useful player last year, i can't see him losing his place even without the captain's armband. I thought Alves was going to replace Hughes but he's decided to stay so who knows anymore?! MON will probably be looking at Antunes, Luke Young and Paul McShane. But i'm only guessing.

Alfred, of course we wouldn't have been linked to these players under the old regime. However, the only reason we're being linked now with everyone under the sun is because they all know we have the money and its easy journalism. If the Man City takeover is for real, they too will start to be linked with these players.

Yes please, lets buy quality players but until we do, I'll continue to be pessimistic. Having said that, I trawl through all the websites everyday praying to see that we have finally bought Sneijder, Babel, Drenthe, De Jong, Lahm & Alves. Fingers crossed some of these will be at pre-season training in July.

good .. its about time we diminish him from our structure, we just need to buy a new rb .... maybe a more solid type ? then all's there is to buy is a gk cb rm cm maybe another solid lb which can push up into midfeild (drenthe) which would press pressure on bouma for hes spot and maybe a cam that can slot straight into a strikers position .. its a huge transfer season to come for us but i have a feeling mon wont dissapoint us and another thing with the transfer funds .. i think we would have to have around 60-70 because with all the players mon is selling there is no chance he can afford to not replace them ..
