I'm waiting for transfer news, meanwhile Chris Herd heads to Vale on loan

Wednesday, 09 January 08, 09:46 AM · Comments (25)

Most of you may not know much about Chris Herd and I may be included in that. All I know is that he is a young Australian. In the last 10 minutes I have now found out he can play all across the midfield and at right-back.

I have also found out that he has joined Port Vale on loan for, initially, one month. Port Vale are bottom and 6 points from safety so hopefully Chris will get the chance to play some games and get some experience.

I like seeing our up-and-coming youngsters go out on loan as it's invaluable experience they need before they play in the Premier League. I'm not sure how good preparation playing in League One is but any sort of first team football must be better than reserve team football.

Meanwhile I'm still waiting for news of a transfer and I thought MON might've arranged something prior to 1st of January, but maybe managers only work in the transfer window. Who knows, but let's hope we get a few faces in soon.

Well Latest I've heard is Chimbonda and Diarra. Diarra looks like a decent player and I've seen him a bit for Arsenal this season. I'm surprised they'd let him go, kinda reminds me a bit of Paddy Vieira. Chimbonda would be a decent signing as well because we're short at full back to say the least.

Another rumour from someone on sky!!

"ive heard from an extremly reliable source at aston villa, that giles barnes will sign for 7million in a couple of days, i also heard that birmingham have enquired about the availablity of villa frontman luke moore."

I want some signings now lol

This is getting to me with the lack on news and Villa seem to be keeping their cards very close to their chest. I dunno whether it's to stop over clubs buying the players we're after or just the fact we can't get anyone cos they wanna go to a northern monkey or southern fairy clubs.

But as I keep saying I hope my mate's right about seeing Doyle down the villa, otherwise he's get a death punch he he

MON's a poker player in the transfer market cards close to his chest and will go down to the wire if he feels in the clubs interest's. We do seem to be linked with some good players and it would seem that money is not an issue. I am sure that we will get some if not all of the players we want. It is always interesting to compare who actually arrives with who we are linked with. I am just looking forward to see who does arrive.

Just read on the bbc website that allardyce has resigned as newcastle manager. Maybe the rumours about Martins coming will turn up again? I wouldn't mind having him, we dont really have any players with the flair that he has, and he's not scared to shoot from range either which is something we're missing.

I can't see us signing Diarra. Yes he can play at RB but his best position is defensive midfield and we already have Reo-Coker doing a good job for us there. Not sure if I'd really be that pleased about Barnes coming. We've got some top quality youngsters at the club but it is time that we brought in some proven quality. Forget the likes of Barnes, Hoyte, Doyle etc. it's time to move up a level and bring in the likes of Defoe, Miguel, Riise, Gudjohnsen who we've also been linked with.

i wud love us to sign diarra. but yet again, newcastle get linked to him. wot is it with them? y dont they concentrate on their defence, stil now alardyce is gone, hopefully we can get diarra.
i dont think diarra wud mind playin right bak if it meant first team games.
but the lack of movement on our side, or lack of word is buggin me!
im hopeful of burst of activity soon tho.

A Celtic fan on another site said the transfer windows are the most frustrating thing about MON.

I'm not convinced with all his signings and we're lacking some experience. Hopefully he'll just spend the money he's got (bucket loads of it too!) and get some good players in rather than being the management equivalent of Deadly.

First off, i'm from ireland so there goes my objectivity on the subject, but hell i'll say it anyway, whats wrong with doyle, sure hes not a big name like "mancini" but whats wrong with that. we are talking about a player who is in his third professional season in football, he scored 13 league goals last year, so far hes got 5, he could have had more if he was still taking penalties and lets not forget he has played out of position on some occasions Also he bagged 4 goals in a weak ireland team in the european qualifying campaign. All im saying is that while hes not a household name, i think he is someone who works hard and would lead the line well and be a significant addition to our frontline, bringing more options (e.g. versitality) than the likes of moore, carew or certainly our current number 9, harewood

Ive said it before, MON is doing his job, which is to get us higher and higher on the table. Two years ago, we Baros walking around whinging and JPA couldnt hit the broad side oof a barn. Today we are equal 6th and being linked to the brightest young english talent there is. Why do people insist on whinging?

Leroy - do you believe in God?

It's a sort of relevant question because those that do, have a much easier time in having faith in something you're told.

You and me could both go to Celtic and win the league and we've all seen what Sven has done - regardless of circumstances.

We are led to believe that there is a huge pile of cash at the managers disposal and then we hear talk of Doyle for £8mn. - my point is with all these young prospects, some don't see us really kicking on with a team full of prospects - because we've had several years of prospects at Villa and if all this money is available why isn't it getting spent?

I'm more on the Martin O'Neill side of the fence than the other side but I really can understand the frustrations of some.

Alan Campbell has been back on Sky Sports and looks good to me:

"ASTON VILLA NEWS : I am reliably informed that the deal for Giles Barnes is nearing it's completion, however, Boss Martin O'Neill has cooled his interest in Kevin Doyle as he has been encouraged by Spurs boss Juande Ramos to make a bid for Jermain Defoe (his number 1 long term target). O'Neill will then move to complete a deal for another of his long term targets... Jose Boswingwa. Further January targets include Lassana Diarra of Arsenal and John Arne Riise of Liverpool. I will keep you posted with developments at Villa Park throughout January !!!"

Taglor wat are you still doing on this site???? >:( all you ever do is slag the villa off for every move they make. I just can't work you out. If we win a game you still find a problem unless its a ridiculous convincing scoreline. Kevin Doyle would be a great signing. What you don't understand is that we got a gr8 manager to get the best out of decent players. Grow up an learn about the game of football.

Lesson 1: Support your club ;)
