Is it or isn't it Nike?

Tuesday, 23 January 07, 09:51 AM · Comments (10)

I've got a call in at Nike but ever since I mentioned 'Aston Villa' and 'kit for next season' the person I need to speak to is either at lunch, on the phone, out of the office or in a meeting. I will continue to chase it up but I think we'll probably hear something soon from the club, so I'm posting now.

The reason I think we might hear something from the club is because I've just emailed Phil Mepham at the club and there were reports in the Sunday press.

Mr Mepham heads up communication at the club and he probably doesn't like this site very much as we tend to take the odd swipe at the official web site and the content we get fed from them.

I don't expect to get an email back from him but I do expect the club to make an announcement soon, especially after we posted about it last week.

We believe there were three companies bidding for the deal. Under Armour, Nike and someone else, thought to be Reebok. All but Nike are out of the running and it's now just a case of keeping Hummel happy but if everything we've been told is even remotely true then it is Nike for next season.

I'd like to just say again that this is still only a rumour as I'm not getting confirmation from anyone and I can't say where we've got the information from but I will say I'll be buying another kit next season for my son and if it was Nike it would make me happier. Just glad it's not adidas. I just hope it doesn't turn out to be adidas now.

it will be good to have nike but for some reason I like the sound of under armour - they are also a good company BUT nike goes with my golf gear

I, too, am eagerly waiting for sponsorship news, BUT, I do not want to hear about any deal until after the transfer window closes at the end of January. If Villa announces a megadeal right now, then you can add 25% plus to any transfer fee for incoming players as we become hostage to our new found wealth. Originally, a deal was supposed to be done before the end of 2006 - I am glad there was no announcement then; I will wait until the beginning of February, thank you!

Shame that I would actually prefer adidas! be interesting to run a survey on the big 5 to see what our fans think.

adidas
nike
puma
reebok
umbro

I wonder...do they think like me?

nike would be good, but i would prefer adidas or reebok, some how feel that an adidas or reebok symbol would look a lot better on a claret and blue kit, rather than a tick.

personally i think nike, adidas or reebok would all be fine, as long as they dont go super small and skin tight (kappa style)

I personally think the skin tight jerseys look and feel really good.
