Is James Milner at Bodymoor for a medical?

Friday, 29 August 08, 05:48 AM · Comments (83)

It's almost a serious question. I'm in town today and not in front of a PC and by the time this finds itself on the web, it could very well be old news.

But the talk is, he's on his way and if he is, he'll play on Sunday and help us beat red scouse.

Also, if he does arrive, we'll have an in the spotlight post from Adam. Keep your fingers crossed, any right winger will do now.

Gotta love the way we had the toon army on here a few weeks back laughing at the idea of Milner wanting to leave newcastle for a smaller club like villa.

Milner will be a great signing. He's much better than SWP. SWP cant cross a ball.

I for one will be sad to see Milner go, I think he is improving, although not as quickly as we would like. He needs to work on his crossing but his work rate and determination, and more than anything his professional mentality, are rare commodities these days. He'll do well under MON. I'm not as arrogant as many of my fellow NUFC fans but I would not say that Villa is a step up as Villa and Newcastle are both very similar clubs at the moment. I don't like the way he's gone about it but I will wish Milner all the best if and when he signs for you. Oh and please beat those Scousers this weekend ;)

Alright Villa boys hope all is well.

James is without question a model professional and has been a good servant to the club over the years..but let's be honest he is not that good certainly not 10m good.

He is if anything an average work horse with no crossing ability whatsoever and you could put him in the category of a "head down midfielder" i.e no vision.

Have you actually looked at his stats..last season he had 2 asssits...so to me 10m is excellent business for us.

Enjoy and thanks for the £'s

your get getting a cracking lad villa fans, just dont think your getting a top top player for the money your paying. hes never worth the same/more than you paid for a.young.

2 assists last season, 18% cross completion thats less than stephen hunt and nicky shorey and george mcartney. yeah he looked good against coventry but lads it was coventry ffs. he was gash against bolton days earlier, couldnt cross and wasted all his setpieces and missed a sitter of a header 6yrds out despite apparently being a good in the air.

bit annoyed he is leaving given the circumstances and the only way we come out any good from this is by signing a better player b4 the window closes. keegan doesnt want him to leave becuase he can do a job in various positions and our sqaud aint that great, keegan has sold better players than him so dont think keegan rates him as the next ronaldo, his hands are tied a bit at the minute so hes bound to want to keep everyone he can.

im happy though hes going to a club like villa who will at least appreciate his good qaulities rather than go and be benched at lpool all season.

sorry but if you're paying anywhere near 12 mil you've been well and truly done. it seems alot of you lads think he can cross. he cant. he's skillfull, not the quickest, and the end product is poor.
just because he got MOTM against championship opposition midweek doesnt mean he's a fantastic player and we're all in tears about him going.
yes he's a hardworker and has a great attitude but so does alan smith, and look what he's upto.
if the fee is in double figures, we're laughing all the way to the bank. gutierrez over milner for me any day of the week.

no striker could bury a cross thats 10yrds over his head or played behind him. as for putting away his corners that becomes even harder when 90% of them hit the first defender or go out for throw ins or goal kicks

vs bolton some of his crosses trickled yards in front of him becuase he does so many tricks he looses the opertunity to put a cross into space.

im not saying he wont get better but weve waited 5yrs for him to do so and it aint happened.

if my memory is right the last goal he scored b4 the coventry game was in the cup vs stoke last season.

maybe he needed a move we will soon find out, the timings hurt us more than anything.

Hes 22, has years and years of experience and did a job for us a few years ago. We have no real quality (sorry Wayne!) on the right and urgently needed a solution.
Again after a few weeks of discussions with my Geordie pal, I think the money is spot on. An initial 4 years on his contract would still only take him to 26/27 when he should hit his peak. Id rather spend good money on a player we know will fit into the Premiership than a few unproven players to "fill the gap".
Hopefully this is not the end to Martins dealing.

now for all you toonies to be spending this much time on avfc blog you are obviously hurting inside at the moment time will heel trust me.
And yes Coventry are only championship so doesnt that make you hurt even more when the only player that stood out was Milner and you had 10 others on the pitch. you must be worried. still you have Owen you should get another 4-5 games from him before he breaks or pulls somethig.
Now lads get over it we can afford the 10-12 mil cus we in europe. the hurt will go away soon

Great signing and definately my 1st choice over Bentley, SWP, Lennon etc.. Good (team) player with plenty of fight, passion and experience who can only get better and better.

With regards to the 'stats' that Bar Codes has posted to prove he's rubbish.. :)

Well a 18% cross completion is pretty good - it about the league averages, an EXCELLENT one is only about 22-25% - our Ashley's for instance was 27% and the best in the league. But lets be honest it also depends on your strikers ability to win the ball too!! I think he'll find it easier crossing to Carew than your bunch of midget crocs.. ps Joe Coles for instance was less at 14% last year and I guess he's rubbish too?

As as regards to assists for you - well he had 9 assists in 27 games when on loan here. That will do for me!

And as regards corners, free kicks - he won't be taking them over Young & Barry anyway.

Thanks for the wind ups but a players worth to the team is MUCH more than a few stats. He's a great TEAM player and improves our team immensely, weakens yours and I think 95% of Villa fan's couldn't care less if it was £5 or £15m.

Your loss - our gain! :)

Well he's definitley in Birmingham and he's staying at the Hyatt Hotel so hopefully he's at BMH now sorting out the deal. Fingers crossed!

James Milner will be a great signing for us, with Young on the left and Milner on the right its starting to get some shape! Another striker and we will be challenging for 4th/5th hopefully!

To all those NUFC fans who say Villa is not a step up...rubbish! We are going places now with O'Neil & Lerner, take a look at how far behind you are in the table at the end of the season and last season!
