Martin O'Neill wasn't just visiting old friends while up in Scotland at the weekend. He was watching Kilmarnock beat Hearts and according to the rumours, he was watching Steven Naismith and Craig Gordon.
Now, I don't remember ever seeing Naismith play so can't really comment but from what I've been able to gather he's still only 20 years old and this season he won the Young Player of the Year award in Scotland.
If you didn't know he plays up front and has scored 29 goals in 83 league appearances; which works out at a goal ever 2.8 games. Not a bad return for a player who is still young and is hopefully, only going to get better.
The other player O'Neill was 'apparently' watching was Hearts and Scotland keeper Craig Gordon. I've seen Gordon play a few times, most notably for Scotland against Italy. After the game Christian Vieri and Gianluigi Buffon heaped praise on the player for what can only be described as a world-class performance.
Would I like Craig Gordon? It's a silly question as most who read this know my views on the current keeper. I think Craig Gordon would be the ideal replacement for what we have; a keeper with the potential to become a true great.
The thing is, the other team apparently interested is Manchester United. Who would you pick?

Well considering united have 3 quality keepers already, i'm not sure that link would have much substance. Herts!!! do you mean Hearts
bugger. stupid spell checker ... have fixed. thanks
Never seen Naismith play, only on FIFA07.
Gordon is much better than Sorenson's current ability and he's only 23.
Also news that we've been linked with
- Ajax's midfielder Wesley Snjeider
- Lyon's midfielder Kim Kallstrom
- Sheffield Wednesday defender Frankie Simek
- Middlesborough/Real Madrid defender Johnathon Woodgate
- Spartak Moscow winger Vladmir Bystrov
- FC Zurich midfielder Xavier Margairaz
- Hull City keeper Boaz Myhill
:) Let's Go for Gordon!

Gordon would be a good signing. good goalkeeper with great potential. either him or Boruc and cudicini for me.
Naismith play is playing very good, I think he has a bright future.
Cheers
bad spell checker >:(
Fixed
Im sure if MON is after theese players they are obviously good enough to cope with the prem and if they do as well as Maloney has then they will be excellent signings.Another reason for MON going north of the border is prices of players are still affordable ,just look at what we played for maloney compared to young can you see where the extra 9 mil went?
i am really excited about the potential signing of the keeper craig gordon, i think it will show a signal of our intent to sign such a bright prospect with teams like manchester united and arsenal being linked also.
This could be the signing that gets the attention of other players and opens the flood gates for more top quality players to follow.
Up The Villa!
Pardon my ignorance but masn't Jonathan Woodgate signed for Boro??Can't see him doing a David Unsworth I'm afraid.
I wouldn't be madly overjoyed at the arrival of these players regardless of how highly rated they are in Scotland due to the fact that the SPL is such a weak league. I understand the fact that we desperately need a new keeper but why not go for Jaaskelinen or Carson who are tried and trusted in the prem. With regards to strikers I'd like to see Nugent join the Villa and I've just thought that Louis Saha is probably going to be available and I think this would be a smart move from O'Neill if he decided to go for him.
Saha would be fine as long as he stays off the treatment table. I too would like to see Nugent at Villa but I think the better option would be to go for Defoe or Bent. As for keepers, Boruc would be my first choice, played out of his skin in the champions league, so he has the pedigree for the big games. I hope the Sneijder rumour is true, what an awsome player. ;D
with ben foster showing such good form in the prem and himself being young, i would not believe man u will pursue gordon to the lengths of 8 million. equally tottenham have a quality keeper in robbo and i cant see gordon wanting to play second string which he most likely would at spurs. this leaves the mighty villa as his best option south of the border, we have potential galore with a respected manager and ambitious squad and can give him the chance to play week in week out at the highest level. im guessing gordon is on his to the midlands this summer.
