Is Martin O'Neill showing an interest in Franck Rib?ry?

Tuesday, 08 May 07, 08:40 PM · Comments (25)

Franck Rib?ry, currently at Olympique Marseille, is thought to be on the Martin O'Neill wanted list for next season.

The 24 year old French international is an attacking midfielder who can play in the middle or on either wing. He's played 16 times for France and was recently touted as the next Zidane.

Now, this is a strong rumour but it doesn't mean to say it's going to happen and it's also thought that Arsenal have shown an interest, so given the chance of where to play you might fancy he'd pick Arsenal over Villa.

Anyway as rumours go the Kepa one has also raised it's head again recently. The player is quoted as saying that Aston Villa are still interested in signing him. Let's wait and see, but it's nice to be linked with the likes of Rib?ry; pure class.

No way, I remember seeing MON commentating in Germany during the world cup, and saying how much Ribery frustrated him as a player. Can't see this one being true i'm afraid.

My inside information source
My brother works with Craig Gardner's best friend.
He says that O'Neill has
Bellamy (8mil) and boruc (4mil) done and dusted
Joey Barton was spotted at Bodymoor Heath yestersay (5.5mil)
and MON is also interested in James Beattie (2mil)
Apparantly also looking at a couple of defenders, but these names are not known

Up the Villa!

Bellamy? Another small, quick man up front - that's just what we need.
Beattie?!? I'd rather we just give Blues the £2million than waste it on him. He's done nothing at Everton

I'll believe the Ribery rumour when I see it. Unlikely I would think

Beattie is the best player we never signed- as in thank good we didn't sign him! He was a target of O'Muppet and I think that says it all.

Ribery is good. Would like to see him as one of many signings, as long as Barton, Bellamy and Boruc.

Ribery would be a fantastic signing, i think he will come to the prem, but not in a villa shirt, i'm putting my money on arsenal signing him, french after all? i would like to see defoe and bent come to the villa. i have a strong feeling about them two.

Must the big times show the same interest in the wingers we want?!
Back off Arsenal, Ribery is ours.
As for the Barton rumour, i wouldn't trust the runners-up in Fair Play League to sign a little bulldog like him.
But if anyone can tame him, it's MO'N..and Roy Keane of course.

Ribery would be class, but i dont think it will happen.
We need top class British players, Keane, Defoe, Barton, Reocoker, Young,Foster,Nugent, Bellamy, not all ofcourse!

Sorry glinch, he's irish!
Iv read an article in The Times that says Villa will have 40 million to spend, wow!
I want Ribery too dont get me wrong, but i dont think he'll choose us above Milan, Manure, Arsenal etc, i want SWP, Young, Bellamy, Boruc, Reocoker and a top centrehalf! Then we can aim for Champions league football

If you remember back to the Jan transfer window only one rumour turned out to be confirmed, that was Young. The other signings were sumwhat surprises to most fans. I think this will be the case again in the summer. I reckon Bellamy and Boruc are certs. Others will be surprises. MON likes to keep his cards close to his chest as to not to alert other clubs of his intentions, therefore players not getting hijaked by other clubs. Not sure another winger is priority. Do NOT want Barton either. We'll just have to see. Makes a change from pre season predictions of old when we only had ten bob and a conker to spend by a manager who bluffed his way through the job. Lokking forward to the summer. bring on next season. UP THE VILLA. 2-1 win on sun.

Barton and Bellamy in the same squad?? Why don't we just sign Brown from Fulham too? asking for trouble aren't we? I think we should try for Nolan or Sidwell rather than Barton.

£40mill budget

id double that figure. in a recent press release when Mr. Fitz the bnossman said there was figure on the amount for the kitty, a reporter asked if that meant up to £80m, and his reply

WHAT EVER IT TAKES

welcome then boys and girls. for some classs no expense spared. with out current new signings and cash available and new training ground. i reckon were in for some top tallent. Barton can go to another club!

UP THE VILLA

Bellamy!!, Barton!! Boruc!! Beattie!! Didn't DO'L have the philosphy of 'try and sign anyone with a surname beginning with B' On a more serious note, I am looking forward to us signing 'top class' players, to quote Mr Fitzgerald. I don't think that any of the above players fit that bill. They're all good (except Beattie who is OK at best), but top class??

av-jim-fc
av-jim-fc Wrote: | 00.35BST | May 10, 2007

By the way, as I said boruc and bellmay are certain
Barton is very likely
Beattie is just someone MON is a bit interested in.
Get Ribery in, he is top drawer

This is the most fickle footballer in Franch at the moment. Last summer he was loudly linking himself with every big club in Europe. Even if we did land him, and even if he did do a good job for us, he'd be sure to take off the next season for ARSEnal or ManU anyway. In fact, send him to the former: I'd like to see just how French Arsenal can get before any of their fans say something.
