Is the transfer window actually open? It appears so

Thursday, 28 June 07, 09:13 AM · Comments (18)

We've had running debates on this site for some time about the transfer window and when it actually opens. I thought it was June 1st, others have said it is July 1st. I needed clarification.

So, I searched the net and found different answers, I went to my online bible, Wikipedia and it didn't tell me or wasn't clear enough, I don't remember.

I even emailed the club, but they haven't got back to me. So in a Matrix moment, I went to the source; The Football Association Premier League Limited.

I've just got an email back from them with confirmation on when the window opens and closes.

The first Transfer Window in any year shall commence at midnight on the last day of the season and shall end on 31 August next if a Working Day, if not, on the first Working Day thereafter, at a time to be determined by the Board.

The second Transfer Window in any year shall commence at midnight on 31st December and shall end on the 31st January next if a Working Day or, if not, on the first Working Day thereafter, at a time to be determined by the board.
FA Premier League, June 28th 2007

It appears we were all wrong as nobody said it opens up straight away. Anyway, I'm glad I've had that confirmed as it was making me very frustrated.

I am a villa fan and im still dissapointed in our club when it comes to signing players we have to be the slowest club in the whole of the world.M.O.N is a great manager he is one i wouldnt like us to lose him but he need to communicate with the fans more often we hardley here from villa players manager of the people at the top when u look at chealsea man united and arsenal there is allways sumone thats got sumthink to say for the fans lets just hope that fridays rumour for a press conference is true cause we really need some players in fast not just for the team but it will lift the spirit of the fans and stop us biteing our nails wondering who it is and when it is villa is to secreative and that needs to change its as if the club wants us fans to no nothing at all hopefully this will all change within months to come take care all we guna win the F.A cup this year.

So the Football Manager is wrong :) as the transfer window always start at 1st July and lasts to 31st August there.

Its very simple. As from the 1st July you can register a player with the authorities. As there is no football going on in June you can "sign" someone but not play him, but as we are in June it doesnt make a difference. Look at all the teams who have signed players already, basically we have to come to terms with the fact that we have not signed anyone due to our own incompetence. Lets stop making excuses for others........

Then what are we waiting for :D

I preferred it when i thought that it didnt open till july 1st as then i had a reason to wait.

July the 1st comes from football manager, it is derived from the fact all the players go on holiday until the start of july.

It had clearly opened already. Barton to Newcastle, Parker to Wh, Nani and Anderson to Man u etc etc........

What you are confusing is the fact that players contracts run until the 30th of June so they can only legally play for a new team from the 1st of July.

It's a lot of the contracts that come to an end on July 1st, and people entering their last year and all that Jazz. Things are, like every season, waiting for something to trigger it all off. It'll be the transfer of Bent and or Torres that gets things shifting.

Correction: Transfer window is open June 1st, but players cannot be registered until July 1st, on this date Mccann, Hughes and Samuel will all be named players for other Bolton and Fulham.

it opens june 1st but im sure players cant be completly signed up till july 1st .. this is why mon is smart because hes not talking about any deals until probably july 1st and they can put pen to paper .. other wise if he was letting all other teams know about who he wants the club could pull the transfer last minute because other clubs want to pay higher for eg: if mon came out and said a week ago nrc is going to be ours for 7 mill a team like spurs could pop up before its time to sign to paper and say we will pay 9 mill for him .. as suspected west ham would pull our deal and spurs would snatch him up .. also i keeps transfers to a low and they wont inflate .. thats my view on it anyway, anyone think im spot on ?

The transfer window opens at the end of the previous season. Yes players cant officially register with there new club but contracts will have all been signed. Transfers have been happeneing all month, we just havent made any. Hopefully that will change soon.

Look at all this bullsh*t on here!!!! Just give the club time. If they let anything out of the bag then every other club jumps on board. Whinging bloomin Brummies!! Always moaning. If we havent signed at the start of the season then start complaining. The other thing I wish for is that this site would substantiate a few of its statements "I expect to here something from the club very soon".... "there is a press conference today"...

at steve m

this was posted because from an early post nobody seemed to know exactly when it opened .. this is just really clarification on when the transfer window opens.

re. i expect signings very soon; martin o'neill has said publicly he would like to have signings for the start of pre-season training. i'm only putting 2 and 2 together and hoping i get 4

re. press conference; it's a rumour doing the rounds. not just here but on aston villa forums. i'm only spreading the gossip. but i did clearly say that ...

but you're right. we are brummies so we have a right to moan ;)

Can someone please tell MON that the window is open because at this rate will will go into next season with only 11 players in the squad.

Oh and why is he even looking into Marlon Harewood? He can't even make it in to West Ham's side.
