If this happens, I think I'd start to believe every rumour ever written. I'd believe it if I was told we were about to make a double swoop for Rooney and Ronaldo and probably tell people too.
I'd even go so far as to say that if this happened I'd cut off all my hair and give up alcohol for a month. This is as likely to happen as Martin O'Neill will ever sign a player in the first week of a transfer window.
I'm not knocking Bolton, I'm using this as an example of why you should never believe what you read in the Mirror. Mellberg isn't stupid; he knows what Bolton is all about and if he wanted to know more reasons why he shouldn't sign he could always ring Smiler or Samuel.
I'd put money on a deal already done for Mellberg to leave and play in Italy at the end of the season and I just couldn't see him going to a smaller team than us - not when he could stay.
Not unless Bolton are offering huge amounts of cash and I think it would have to be really huge to tempt a player with the option of Juventus.

I also noticed in the Mirror that when talking about Sorenson unhappy with the 500k price tag, there was a picture of Preston's badge, not Villa's.

OK mellberg may not sign for Bolton , dont forgat they,ve finished higher than villa for the past 4 seasons , when you were on the crest of slump .......... maybe he does fancy europe. after all Bolton did stop man u scoring which villa seem to have difficulty doing, and after watching villa a Bolton, you flattered to deceive , lets face it besides the top four we're all scammbling for crumbs from the rich mans table

It could happen if Villa dont offer him a wedge to stay , if hes going for nowt in the summer Villa will take £1.5 million now
he could then get a clause in his contract to say that if someone like Juve come in for him , he can go for say £2 million
at the end of the season .He could play a part in keeping Bolton up & go in the summer .Its not THAT laughable .
why would mellberg go to a club that are going down??? he may go to juve this month if they offer money for him and if he's going anyway then maybe we should get something for him!. but bolton.... hhhmm doubt it we sell them our crap players not our decent ones. :D
harry gordon - Don't forget we had a rubbish manager and an owner who was too afraid to spend. When was the last time Villa were relegated...hmmm. Enjoy the Championship next season :)
what a great team martin o'neill is building but we need a proven goalscorer who can notch us 20-25 goals a season and a special thanx to randy lerner for backing our team just think were we would be with more goals in the team . if randy lerner or any other chairman is reading this i help run a youth football team on a sunday (under 13's) and we are always looking for sponsars to improve the quality of football for our youngsters ,we as a club have 6 different age groups . any interested persons contact sean bull at seanbull@hotmail.co.uk many thanks.
