Joke of the day: Luke Moore to Middlesbrough

Friday, 01 June 07, 07:30 AM · Comments (19)

I didn't really laugh out loud but I had a little chuckle to myself when I read that Middlesbrough were going to 'test Villa's resolve with a multi-million-pound move for Luke Moore' about five minutes ago.

There are no quotes in the article from the Birmingham Mail but they do suggest that if the right money was offered Martin O'Neill might let him go.

For me Luke Moore is a brighter prospect than Gabby. I don't think there is any coincidence that our form dipped last season when Moore went out injured and came good again when he came back from injury.

It's not just his goals for me, it's his ability to come in from the wing, when O'Neill plays him there and his ability to play up front as a lone striker or just off an attacking midfielder.

Now, I know Luke Moore loves Middlesbrough but he has too much quality to take a step down and is only going to get better. As a player he will see he will have more chance at Villa Park.

However, this rumour can not be true. As a club we don't need to sell our bright young prospects to finance bringing in older more experienced players and Luke is definitely one for the future, if not now.

Seeing as this post is about Middlesbrough, I want to add that I really like the new club badge. If you haven't seen it, you can view it here.

he'd better not leave, hes a right good prospect. selling him and davis would be a big mistake even if we have the money to replace them.

just because he is a local lad doesnt make him anything special. we have got to put sentiment to the side and realise if we want to push forward fringe players like luke moore will not have a future at the club!

OR we could keep the local lads and stay mid table where we are, i know which i would choose!

i wouldn't say this definately aint gonna happen due to agents and the amazing fees they earn from players moving and i'd love to see such a talented player at the riverside but why exactly would he choose boro over villa going on last seasons performance and the current state of both clubs, i mean at least villa have a manager whose done the job before.

to be honest i'm sh*tting myself about next season, as it stands we're gonna lose a host of talented youngsters and one if not two of our first choice attacking line up and the only real player that the club is linked to is an arsenal reject, if i was this kid i's stay put and even if things do go belly up at least he can earn a wad on a free next summer.

I don't think he'll go. I still think there's big things to come from luke. It's not like he's not been living upto his potential so far, his performances and contribution to the team have been fantastic. It's just his goal scoring record he needs to improve, couple that with a run in the first team alongside someone quality like carew, i could see him being 20 goals plus.

I would be absolutely gutted to see Luke leave! He is a poacher, a goalscorer, a fox in the box, whatever u wana call him? Its a dimension that none of our other forwards(Carew, Agbonlahor, young, Maloney)have. He has a cool head on front of goal, He has that knack of being in the right place at the right time and scores important goals. Who knows, if he hadnt have gotten injured he could have stolen the limelight from gabby this season, although i dont want to take any credit away from Gabby, he has been breath of fresh air this season!

Don't go Luke! Bright spark, I wasn't that convinced but 443 early season showed what he can do and his versitility as an attacking player. Loads to learn from big John but a year on loan might be worthwhile, look at Jermaine Defoe!!

I like Luke Moore and he gets better and better every season. He should not be allowed to leave!

Luke Moore is far more than just a local lad. Not many people wee to bothered about stefan leaving or whittingham or edwards but this guy really is class and had he not got injured when he did I am postive he would have been our top scorer. The last thing we need to do now is let this lad leave!

I reckon if Luke Moore would of stayed fit last season he would of scored at least 15 goals. I think Martin O'Neill will be making a mistake if he is let go. But then again if we want to move onto the next level in the premiership we maybe need a liitle bit more quality in attack, but i think if he got a decent run in the team he would work well with big John Carew and get on the end of his flick ons and bang in the goals on a regular basis. And a mention on the other hot topic at the moment, Nigel Reo-Coker would be a far better acquisition than Joey Barton. (heck my mate Bayley would be a better player), anyway Joey Barton is nothing but trouble and always will be. Nigel Reo-Coker possesses Leadership, determination, desire and commitment, all of these Joey Barton doesnt possess. Just look at his record he's the youngest captain of West Ham at the age of 22 and is captain of the England under 21's. He is just what the Villa need in the dressing room a big name player who is a leader/talker on and off the pitch, just to pick the team up in a sticky situation and carry the team on their back and grab the game by the scruff of the neck and dominate the midfield. In which he did to help West Ham survive relegation, even when he wasnt the fans favourite he got on with the task in hand and acted like a true professional and led West Ham out of trouble. He is a character who will give the team a shouting at when there not at their best to liven them up which is something we lak in our squad at the moment

Luke moore in my eyes should be a first team regular. he's got huge potential as a top class striker. i wouldn't get rid of him. maybe if he goes a bit stale send him on loan, but selling him would be a bad move.

I think the point that everyone misses about the very excellent Luke Moore is his ability to get back and defend. He has all the qualities to be a top class striker but his pitch coverage is amazing. i agree with a previous blogger, he actually is a better all round player than Gabby but together they would be lethal.

at BrysonJas

spot on .. i never mentioned his tracking back .. when we started the season with him out wide he was forever getting back and in effect he was playing as a midfielder rather than a winger ..

good call

Moore is better in front of goal than gabby a bit more polished. Boro r a joke they only want him cus he scores for fun when we play them.

no way should we sell him. i bet you in 3 years time arsenal n chelsea will be sniffing around. in my eyes luke moore is englands answer to thierry henry. villa should also try n bid for blackburn pair, bentley and pederson. n i realy hope we get reo-coker hes jus class.
villa starting 11
gordan (8mill)
lahm(10mill)-mellberg-laursen-bouma
bentley(10mill)-petrov-reo coker(8mill)-barry-pederson(12mill)

I agree with most of the comments regarding Luke Moore. He is (in my humble opinion) close to becoming a top premiership striker. He has a great first touch, a great workrate, and certainly an eye for a goal. I would say that if he sticks around and continues to focus, he will most likely become our permenant first choice forward, and a strong candidate for England. I don't think MON will sell him, unless of course he wants to leave! my message to Luke would be to stick around and reap the rewards :D

Agreed that Luke has more potential than Gabby, and Luke has already established some of the quality needed to be a top striker, Gabby hasn't, other than being our top scorer. Luke has been faithful to us since he was in the youth squad at 16 and i can't see him ever leaving Villa Park.
