It has now been nearly four months since Liverpool started 'Barrygate' and still it appears they can't afford him.
I for one am disgusted in the way Liverpool football club have behaved during this sorry affair. Liverpool knew from the start that Gareth would cost at least £17m based solely on the price players like Hargreaves, Defoe and Carrick (all England fringe players) have gone for in the last couple of seasons.
Starting with a laughable offer Liverpool have got inside Barry's head and really made him think that the grass is greener on the other side. Gareth was happy here and had his eyes set on breaking Charlie Atkins appearance record until Liverpool and his 'new mate' Gerrard started this appalling campaign. Back in April I thought the Villa should respond by making a £10m offer for Steven Gerrard.
I am not defending Gareth for the way things have turned out, but Liverpool have made life very difficult for him. He is now caught in the middle. Who knows what is going to happen next. Liverpool will probably try and push Gareth into submitting a transfer request and then try and get him on the cheap.
I accept that at the moment Liverpool are a bigger club than Aston Villa but the way they are conducting themselves at present suggests that things could be about to change.
In my opinion Villa have a realistic chance of finishing above Liverpool this season especially if Barry remains with us. The only thing that let us down last season was our defence and I think with the addition of Freidel and the new full-backs that will improve.
It is alleged by Spurs that Liverpool also behaved poorly in the purchase of Robbie Keane. So I believe it is time that clubs like Villa and Spurs took a stance against the way Liverpool are conducting themselves.
Perhaps Liverpool are not breaking any Premiership rules, but in my opinion the way they have carried out these media campaigns to unsettle players is morally wrong and against the very fabric that Liverpool have always stood for. Liverpool are a great club, but you wouldn't have found the likes of Paisley or Dalglish behaving the way Benitez has done.
So I say enough is enough. The Villa should now refuse to do any transfer business with Liverpool. If Barry wants to go and play Champions League football he can and there are over thirty other sides in the Champions League he can choose from. I would now rather sell him for £10m to Arsenal than £18m to Liverpool.
Although, I would still be delighted if he stayed!

lets get the facts right here, liverpool do indeed have the money but have decided they are not gonna b robbed for it. barry is not worth 18million. how have liverpool behaved badly? liverpool put in a bid of 12million to start the process straight to villa, then someone leaked the news to a birmingham newspaper who were then the first to print the story. look keep barry for the season & we'll take him off your hands for a better price next season. maybe youll b uefa by then
Look it's not our fault, that yours and spurs best players want to leave you and come to the great Liverpool Football Club. Why do you think they want to join LFC? I'll tell you why, because Liverpool is and will always be a bigger, More prestigious, famous, feared and respected club than your pathetic small clubs, simple as that. That's why whoever liverpool want from your club will act the same as your captain, leave you ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with everything you have said there Andy, except i think we just have to sell Barry now. I wise man once said to me on another comments thread, "once the toothpaste is out it doesnt go back in", referring to his comments made in THAT interview. Barry has flown his colours and they dont appear to be claret and red. Plus it is obvious that a De la Red type would benefit the team more than having Barry. The other question is would MON accomodate both if the De la Red bid goes well. I think we should offer Arsenal a straight swap for Walcott, see what happens. If we do sell Barry to Liverpool for the over inflated (IMO) price of 18mil plus, it would only cause further financial difficulties for them which eventually would cause more unrest between owners and fans, something i feel Liverpool deserve and have Rafa and the owners to thank for it all. That said, i cant wait for the next time they come to Villa Park!!!!! Andy, i would also like to ask you your view on how you think MON has handled this whole saga...incase i have missed it on an earlier thread....
LFC have forgotten how importnat it was for them to have the best of British in their team when they dominated the top division. The fans now seem to only value players who cannot speak English.
There seems to be an internal war going on between the owners, manager and fans; with only the manager realising what a really good player GB is. Long may this continue; whilst it does we get to keep GB and LFC will continue to be a fringe team outside the big 3.
If this saga does end with GB staying then I look forward to this season with even more hope. I don't think we, or anybody else can, break into the CL monopoly but I hope to enjoy some more exciting and attractive football this season.
For LFC they are a joke and should be ashamed of the way they have conducted this affair and deserve the ridicule that will be showered on them. If they don't think GB is worth £18m they should ask Man U fans about how important Carrick (GB's England understudy) has been to their team and how important is is to have a strong British presence in their team.
Give it up LFC, I just hope you can apologise once this comes to an end.
you said:
Starting with a laughable offer Liverpool have got inside Barry's head
In my opinion Villa have a realistic chance of finishing above Liverpool this season especially if Barry remains with us.
now it's you that is laughable
1/ Barry is not worth 18 million
2/"Starting with a laughable offer Liverpool have got inside Barry's head and really made him think that the grass is greener on the other side." In this case the grass IS greener on the other side
3/"Gareth was happy here and had his eyes set on breaking Charlie Atkins appearance record" Liverpool could not compete with that.
4/"Villa should respond by making a £10m offer for Steven Gerrard. " Oh dear.
5/"but in my opinion the way they have carried out these media campaigns" most statements came from Oneill
6/"I accept that at the moment Liverpool are a bigger club than Aston Villa but the way they are conducting themselves at present suggests that things could be about to change." How do you work that out Sherlock.
Aston Villa wanted 18 million, Liverpool were not prepared to pay that much (but were for Keane). That is it in a nutshell.
I don't think either side have particularly covered themselves in glory.
I'm not so sure that Liverpool 'don't' have the money. They quite readily coughed up the £20 million for Keane.
It is quite possible that they are just not prepared to pay that much for Barry. Surely that's fair enough.
With regards to your claims that Aston Villa are nearly ready to finish above Liverpool - 'it was just your defence that let you down last season'. Well. That's kind of the point of football. If our defence hadn't let us down on 2 or 3 occasions we would have been Champions.
Andy in a way i agree. sure liverpool have not acted as you would like but neither have we i this matter. barry, benitez and even oneil have all been at fault in this saga. didnt we offer a laughable offer for bentley?
he will go but prob not till the last week of the window.
And i dotn know how people blame him for actually leaving?? he is at fault for not handing in a transfer request and saying stuff to the press.
But do u honestly think we are going to finish above liverpool. think again andy. they were 16 points clear of us last year have added robbie keane to partner ttorres and 2 decent attacking full backs which they needed in degen and dosena both who i would have loved.
i would love to get close to liverpool but i dont think we can compete with a team that has a spine of reina, carragher, skrtel, mascherano, gerrard, torres, keane. I hope i am wrong but i think they have gained ground on us this summer to be honest!
Yes, they have acted disgracefully as either pay the asking price or go away, Parry has now announced on a statement that even though Benitez wants him " the board " don`t want to pay the price, Liverpool are a joke club nowadays and certainly have no dignity from how i remember them, Barry is worth 17/18m as he keeps Hargreaves/Carrick out of the England team and they were transferred for similar fees - fact.
The fact is this has dragged out way too long. Fine, Liverpool want to buy Barry, Liverpool are playing champions League and he fancies some silverware - good luck, put your transfer request in, pay what he's worth and thats for the memories.
That would have been a simple ending to the story but I missed the fact Liverpool cant/wont cough up the reddies (before you tell me he isn't worth the money, please explain to me why scott carson is worth 10 million?)
Lets face it, this started as an easy way to get inside Barry's head before an important game which could have meant Liverpool missing out on 4th if results had carried on going our way or Evertons. Now it's just a sham - GB obviously isn't wanted by 90% of the folks at Liverpool and by a growing number of Villa fans - he was welcomed back and then did the dirty.
Think he will stay now, and I hope even after everything people can get behind him, because whatever has happened, judging him on his football alone he is an asset to the team.
Is anyone still interested in this? Like it or not 'red' liverpool come out of this whole business looking like a club that doesn't know what it is doing. Sooner you get decent owners at the helm the better it will be for you.
Btw, £20m for Robbie Keane!
have you looked at the internal war going on in your pool blogs lately
shamefull chanting at fridays game from the cop
singing you can stick gareth barry up your a**e
what type of club have you become even booing the player that scored your winning goal on friday is a disgrace
parisian rob
Red open your eyes Uefa? we are already playing in that competition. We may see you in that cup very shortly? who knows! Liverpool are a disgrace, they will get whats coming believe me.
parisian rob ur wrong. voronin wasnt booed. the booing was for the idiots chanting u can stick g.b. up ur ass. every club have idiots. i agree this whole situation has gone on too long. & could have been handled a whole lot better by all sides involved. MON has spoken about players b4 hes bid for them in the past.
Little d1ckhead Liverpoo fans are doing my head in. Let's look at FACTS.
1)News was first leaked in Liverppo Echo about Barry bid for Barry day before fax reached Villa! FACT!
2)Benitez names Barry in press before any deal has been agreed! FACT!
3)Alonso needs to be sold to raise funds or a loan is needed! FACT!
Number 3 alone indicates that Liverpoo have no money I think because as everyone knows if you have enough money to buy something you have to get a loan to buy it, NOT!
Liverpool have known the price for months, they should have been honest enough to pull out saying the price was too high, not lead Barry on and on, This really is shoddy in anyones books.
In respose to DanWilson
Carson was sold for 3.5 million to West Brom
Liverpool finished 16 point ahead of Villa and 11 ahead of Everton, I don't think this was due to getting inside Barry's head
What about the Liverpool fans at the Lazio match singing 'You can stick Gareth Barry up your A**E'. Why oh why would you want to go to a club like that - disgraceful behaviour.
And i love the scousers ignorance in all of this, its like they are getting questioned by the old bill 'Well officer, the story was leaked to the Birmingham press before ours' - give me a bucket!
Barrys only got himself to blame (he shouldn't have listened to his parasite agent, Stevie Me, Stevie Me's brother or anyone else that a certain waiter got to speak out in public telling him how great it would be for him to go to Liverfool).
I was at the Odense game and couldn't believe the way the crowd got behind him. He then agrees to a deadline for the transfer to go through and theN demands a move when it doesn't go his way, the bloke still believed the bull that he had been fed by good old Stevie.
It now appears that neither clubs fans really want him, Liverfool fans chanting 'you can stick you GB .......' shows they don't want him and i for 1 (after his disgraceful antics over the last couple of months) don't think he will EVER regain the trust of the Holte faithful, yes we will get behind him but im sure we will all remember what he said about MON, the man who resurrected his career and got him back into the England team when he arrived 2 years ago.
So once more - YOU ONLY HAVE YOURSELF TO BLAME GB (GREEDY B*STARD)
lets get the facts right??
liverpool have the money?? then pay up!!
if yu dont think hes worth 18mill then dont say yu wannr buy him!! its simple!!
liverpool havent behaved immorally?? how would yu like it if we werent behind yur ass (which may be a lil difficult lookin at the waist sizes of benitez, gillet and hicks) and tried tappin up stevie g!! my god, the world would f##kin end!!
hahaha id LOVE to see stevie g and torres become unavaiable for the yr and see how the 'pool go!!
btw, jus outtr curiosity how many crimes yu committed today?? or are yu a glory supporter??
Let's face it, any silverware Barry might win at Liverpool would just get nicked by Scousers on the rob. Just ask Stevie G.
Frankly, I can't understand the pull of Liverpool. Those bloody stupid lambanana things the council has dotted all over the city beggar belief. As for the football club, okay, they've got a pretty good history in terms of winning trophies, but their fans think they have a God-given right to win everything. Did anybody hear that nauseating Kop poet on Five Live after they won the Champions League? Alan Green should be shot for broadcasting crap like that on the radio. I'm going off on one... I'll go and eat my Shredded Wheat, with 100% huuuuurl wheat.
UTV.
It was clear at an early stage that Barry wanted to go. In my view the correct thing would have been for Barry to have lodged an official transfer request. He did not do that because he wanted more money from the transfer. With the Keane transfer from Spurs to Liverpool Keane did the right thing by lodging a transfer request at a very early stage.
Liverpool have tried to bully Villa and its great that RL and MON have done their best to keep hold of our best player.
Liverpool should either put up or shut up!
That fact is Barry just isn't worth 18 million pounds, I think they are right not to let themselves get taken advantage of, besides do they really need him? In my opinion Liverpool have acted in a professional manner, they didn't leak any stories, Barry was the disrespectful one crying that he want to join Liverpool. If he wants to leave he will int he end, same as Ronaldo.
" Look it's not our fault, that yours and spurs best players want to leave you and come to the great Liverpool Football Club. "
Jesus - when you read that, the fact that Scousers don't know why everyone reviles them is all the more hilarious; it must mean they are not simply arrogant, but colossally retarded to boot.
I despise no club more than your odious little kopshite bandwagon; the day it comes down will be a glorious one.
I'll swap you Barry for Kuyt.
Red, your a plum ..... Liverpool have been well out of hand in every manor. They set the bench mark putting stupid prices on their players heads and my god they've got some very average players! Villa made it clear from the outset the price for Barry - Now I know alot of people up in the North West are thick as sh*t but how do you work out that in todays market Barry isn't worth £18m .... I know most of you up there get all your things for free - Housing, money etc etc - But your not having Barry on the social - So stop your pathetic cat sounds after its been knocked down!
On that - Barry really is going to look like a mug now - If I were him I'd either put in that transfer request, sign a new contract (which deep down most would like) or but himself on e-bay and hope somebody stumps up the cash.
Redrobert, are you actually a football fan? do you go to anfield regular? Im guessing no because your commemt was pathetic go and bore someone else.
Okay, this ANDY guy who wrote this whole article REALLY is delusional "In my opinion Villa have a realistic chance of finishing above Liverpool this season especially if Barry remains with us. The only thing that let us down last season was our defence and I think with the addition of Freidel and the new full-backs that will improve" This little Opinion mate have made for a stupid reading all over it...
Sure I understand Villa fans love Barry, he's been there since forever, and done all the good for clarent and blue, but to come up with silly statements and bid for Gerrard for 10 million is just absolutely out of your mind
"I for one am disgusted in the way Liverpool football club have behaved during this sorry affair. Liverpool knew from the start that Gareth would cost at least £17m based solely on the price players like Hargreaves, Defoe and Carrick (all England fringe players) have gone for in the last couple of seasons" ... wasn't your Mr. O'Neill running the show to get your attention of the fact that Barry's going to the better greaner side anyways?! Yeah, and Liverpool has to pay 18 million based on Mascherano makes me chuckle like a fat kid with a sneakers bar... 18 mill for a 23 year old monster is a good business, but 18 mill on a 27 year old who "we all know" has by best 5 years in him is really over the line, especially if you consider that he hasn't won a freaking thing before, or been in any final, or even represented England for all that many years!!!
Seriously mate, get a life... and look outside your little Villa box, cause there's a bigger world than the freak dreambox you're living in...
"Have a bigger chance of finishing above Liverpool" my ass
Why argue?
At the end of the day Villa have put a price based on what he's worth to the Villa on Barry's head.
He is worth 18mil to the Villa,he's the captain, pen taker and a very consistant player whom rarely gets injured. Also well liked by the England selectors.
Even Liverpool fans must agree Barry linked up very well with SG in the England midfield.
The problem is atm, that Banitez wants to pay 18mil but the board arnt allowing it.Basically they need to sit round the table and give Villa an answer either deals on or off.
A.Wenger is monitoring the situation closely too.
Red, "maybe then you'll be playin in the uefa" we are in the uefa cup now!! Any real football fan would know this. You are obviously one of the many armchair supporters who live off Liverpools history and know nothing about the game.
Rocket -
- Aston Villa had been interested in signing Carson but Liverpoolâ€s initial £10 million valuation put them off (footballfansunited.com)
- £15 million price tag slapped on Liverpool's Peter Crouch as LFC prepare for Barry (Liverpooldailypost.co.uk)
If Carlsberg arranged transfer fees...
Pretty dire straits when the chairmen who know bugger all about football and not only untill recently stopped squabbabling about their little toy football club, start telling the manager that he should look for another player cause their so in the red. Imean what a great relationship of trust Liverpool have, if I heard half the stories coming out of Liverpool I would be begging Aston villa to take me back. I wouldn't be suprised after a crap season tom jones will leave Barry must be mad to go now and we are not going to accept 12mill. They wouldnt exaclty say to the fans oh yeah the reason y Barry is not here is because we have no money which is the case because they have been trying to offload alonso . About a week now untill the new deadline maybe this time Barry won't be fed more lies and may have a few fingernails left to crawl back to villa
This has to be the most load of lies I've ever read in this "BarryGate"..... First of all, it was the Martin O'Neill Show since day one, and when your little sorry Barry said a few words, he got banned for 2 weeks..... and not spoken to!!!!! He's a football player after all, every player's dream is to play at the highest level, and if you're sorry clarets aren't competing in any where, then you better let him go and look in Brighton and Hove again for a new "gem" to keep for the next 10 years, may be that will win you something
Truth hurts, but your Villa side isn't anything more special than just a good ol' league side, with a varying position every season
Morals and trust.
Two concepts that are a little like jam on your elbow, when it comes to football. Very nice but entirely useless when applied to football.
Have Liverpool behaved immorally? By what yardstick? In a season or two I hope we will be doing exactly the same, (Senor Torres, Your team is in a nosedive, fancy joining the new Champions of Europe?). Is it galling? Yes. Do I hope Liverpool suffer some horrendous fate this season, not Heysel horrendous, but Gerrard ligament damage horrendous? Yes. Has it shown Liverpool FC up as a desperate club who are poorly run, in loads of debt and view falling out of the CL as potentially disasterous? Absolutely.
However, the thing Villa can take comfort from is that the smell of fear comng from LFC should act like the scent of blood to us. One of the top four is going to go and my money is on Liverpool. More and more they are looking behind them and not above them.
As for trust? Will Villa fans trust Barry again if he plays for Villa. I don't care. If he plays for us and plays well for us, and he will, that will do for me. Barry is a professional footballer, this means he plays not for the shirt but for himself and we benefit as a consequence of that. Does anyone seriously expect that on the 31st of August with 1 minute to go at 0-0, Villa get penalty, up steps Gareth to take it he is going to deliberately going to shy it wide? The consequences for him would be unthinkable,if he escaped Villa Park alive. Capello would think, twat, as would every other professional associated with the game. Also, despite his idiotic behaviour over the summer, I don't think Barry would do it either. He is not Beelzebub, just a footballer who sees his career coming to an end and wants to play at the top level.
If Barry stays, he will play as well as he can for us, he doesn't stike me as a player who sulks, witness Odense & Walsall games. If he goes, we get £18 mill and Liverpool fans are more than welcome to stick him up their arse.
It's easy to get carried away and see Barry's action as a personal betrayal but in reality he is a good footballer who needs to play for as long as he can because no PR firms are going to clamouring for his services when he retires.
Hopefully any LFC visitors to the site will notice that I have not mentioned any of the following: tracksuits, perms, moustaches or shoddy credit ratings or any other cheap jibes. Hopefully they will also notice that I habe also tried to use some grammar to make it easier for others to follow what I am saying. So Red a sentence such as 'Maybe youll b Uefa by then' says more about your ignorance not only about football but also educational establishments in general. Grow up.
Oh great I remember the last thread in which Liverpool fans began to comment on here. 400 comments of pointless and completely off topic falsifications. I think the responses of the Liverpool fans only strengthen the argument of this article. I can't begin to describe how bored of reading how much bigger you are, it is completely off topic and a testament to your stupidity. We already know how scared you are of losing your fourth place finish to a number of clubs more than capable of mounting a significant challenge next season. And I for one hope we never do business with your disgrace of a club.
Just who is running Liverpool FC at the moment? Not the club, the team? How can two Americans who know as much about football as building a nuclear reactor from paper clips place any kind of value on any player. I think they're saying "we can only afford £12 million, see what you can do".
Looks like our captain will be staying. My guess is he'll sign a new contract for more dosh and have a clause written in dictating his value for future suitors. So, don't think you'll pick him up on the cheap next season because you may pay £8 million for him but have to buy out the remainder of his contract for £10 million! Martin O'Neill has stood firm, called your bluff and sent you packing. Get back in your basket the lot of you!!
Well at least Now the scoused have confirmed they will not pay the going rate.
They have used every underhand trick possible to get the player on the cheap
If has failed so now they have the gaul to say a player is not worth it
Lets hope it the last we here from the Scouse.
I will look forward to the game at Villa Park.
Except for the fact my old seats will be filled with corperate scousers. Thanks General
The reason they wont cough up the money is that every scouser has that something for nothing attitude.Does it really surprise you the way the have acted, look what the tramps did in the European cup final, they shit on their own by rushing the gates forcing genuine fans who had paid to miss the match.Yes Liverpool are a bigger club than us and thats where we want to be ,but what pisses them off is they want to be where Man U are and their never gona get there. We have stability at our club we know were were going but Liverpool dont know whats round the corner.Liverpool are a laughing stock of the top 4
Just heard we maybe after Joe Cole!
Now he would be a great signing.
Check out Http://www.sundaymercury.net for new, exciting rumours!
i think at least a quarter of villa fans in england want gareth barry to stay i am one of them i have been a villa fan since i was born thefirst thing i wore was a villa towel barry is our star player we can not let him go he is quality and if he does go we will have 18million and steve finnan or xabi alonso
Liverpool are just the Birmingham of merseyside. They have the chav fans & scum board.
Lets hope Everton Stuff them this season along with the rest of the league
Is it correct that if MON plays Barry in Iceland,he would not be eligable to play for Liverpool in europe or the CL if they signed him?
barry should stay we made him if it wasnt for us he wouldnt be where he is right at this moment in time BARRY YOU BETTER READ THIS STAY AT ASTON VILA villa for life bimingham die
Listen Villa fans;
Hargreaves younger than Barry Champions league experience £18m
Anderson Younger than Barry CL experience £18m
Macherano younger than Barry first or second name on the Argentinian national team sheet (ARGENTINA) £17m
Barry 28, no European let alone CL experience and only just an International!!! £12m is a very good price! Liverpool offered £10 Villa want £18 split the kipper £14m and be done with it!!!
Liverpool have the money they just don't want to be ripped off!!! Stop ruining Barry's career.
oh dear you wrote: "I accept that at the moment Liverpool are a bigger club than Aston Villa but the way they are conducting themselves at present suggests that things could be about to change." Hows that???
"Villa have a realistic chance of finishing above Liverpool this season especially if Barry remains with us" Hows that???
Liverpool and Manchester Utd are the 2 biggest clubs in the country in size, support and trophy's. Villa will never be bigger than Liverpool even in the very unlikely event that you ever finish above us in the League!!! CL semi finalists in 3 of the last 4 years!!! Your miles away!!!
We lost just 4 games last year! Turn 5 of the 13 draws into wins and were champions!!!
You have no substance to back-up your comments! Your just an optimistic Villa fan who every year probably says the same thing? We'll finish in the top 4 LOL
Just finish in the top 10 will ye!
They have now gladly confirmed that they will not be uppering the price of ive got an idea 10 million and torres lol :) :) :) :) :)
I think the club should be pretty hard on Liverpool on this one.
They should do what Man U have done and basically state categorically "Don't come calling at AVFC - we don't deal with LFC anymore".
Then the players can get the idea out of their heads and get on playing football.
Liverpool have never done the business in the Premier League and right now, they've spent buckets more on transfers compared to the Villa and have the same number of Premier League titles - Zero.
Both clubs can get all misty and talk about 'when we were good' pre Premier League but thats history.
I'd be happy for a player to knick off to Chelsea or Man U if they have their heart set on immediate success (assuming our valuation is met), but Liverpool? I don't think so.
Right now, they're careering towards a bucket of debt in the form of a new stadium and a Leeds-like crash and burn.
Gareth the no'6 shirt for the claret and blue.
Loved by the Holt End faithful.
One of only 4 English clubs to reign in Europe.
Your the captain, pen taker, and respected through the team.
A regular in the England squad now too.
What are doing m8? Sack your agent, delete SG number off your phone, you've been screwed by The Pool.
Get yourself in MON'S office say your sorry, sign a 4 yr deal and commit yourself to the club.(you could have a job for life at the Villa, just like Sid Cowans).
Champions League footy?dont rule it out Gareth.Ellis has gone now Give it another season with Lerner and MON.
Take a look at the official statement on Liverpool's website, just released by the Press Association..
Liverpool Football Club have today released the following press statement. Could this be over or they hoping they've created an unhappy player that Villq will just let go for a lower price?
Liverpool FC Chief Executive Rick Parry said: "There has been a lot of comment today regarding our position with regards to Gareth Barry.
"This is not about questioning the Manager's judgement or the ability of a particular player. The owners have clearly demonstrated throughout the year they are willing to back Rafa in the transfer market and will continue to do so.
"It is obviously the selling club's prerogative to put whatever price they want on the player, but on this occasion Liverpool think the price quoted is too high."
I'm sorry Liverpool fans but if Carrick and Hargreves are both worth 17 million 2 years ago then Barry who is above them in the england pecking order and is a much better player must be worth 18 million
we should do this
1. we give them 15 million and barry they give us torres or xabi alonso finnan and pennant
2.they give us 5million and xabi alonso
3.LIVERPOOL JUST FUCK OFF
>:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
GUYS, there is a slight sliver lining, this silver lining is this whole saga has given me a lot more games to watch, because i now despise Liverpool so much i will support almost any club playing against them.
Down Scousers!
I think the two guys running Liverpool must think what have we got here - Rafa and Parry - what a bunch of idiots - Trust in what has been said for sometime - Both will be out on their ears within a short space of time - Rafa knows that he's been trumped! MON has played this one very well !!!
What makes me laugh is the amount of `pool fans that end up on Villa boards when Barrys being discussed, I thought you lot didn`t want him??
As for 18million too much, they`ve known the price for months and Kuyt was valued at £16.5 by Rafa the other day lets not mention the Carson fee of which Villa had to pay an additional 2million for the season long loan.
The "re-sale" value of Barry is an excuse by the `pool board because they have little money, Keane cost 20million how much do they think they`ll get for him in three/four years.
I think it`s great, a "little" lowly club like the Villa poo fingering `pool and the main "Sky4" darling!
Up the Villa!!
Liverpool, have they got their house in order?
Liverpool are clueless Tom Jones recently came out with some cryptic message which was assumed to be about Barry.-
"Who comes in? It could be another left-sided player, rather than a central midfielder.
"Maybe he can play in three different positions, that is a positive thing. I am talking about one player but I won't say the name."
Perhaps he has taken MON's words to heed and is being more tactful. However a few more days pass and Rick Parry CEO directly mentions Barry and continues
"It is obviously the selling club's prerogative to put whatever price they want on the player, but on this occasion Liverpool think the price quoted is too high."
I don't understand, it doesn't bode well for Liverpool, not even the manager knows what is going on leaving some cryptic message only for a few days later some idiot mentions his name. I mean it is not as if we didn't know who he was talking about. As For the last quote .. Parry said...THE PRICE TOO HIGH ... NOW YOU TELL US. What the hell the price has been like that for months. You see Mr Parry this is the sort of statement that was supposed to be released just after you approached Barry and then turned your back and said its too high NOT NOW.
We all assumed you were happy and willing to pay 18 million all summer long, i mean why else would you put in pathetic bids....Too little too late, the liverpool board are run by complete morons, I completely despair!
Liverpool have to sell to buy.The issue lies with the fact they cant afford Barry. As for is he worth 18mil,well thats the price he is valued by the Villa.
Barry your the no'6 in claret and blue, playing in one of only 4 clubs to have reigned in Europe.Playing in the UEFA cup this season, maybe(its very possible)Champions league next season.Your loved by all the fans, your team mates, the board and management. You could have a job for life at VP just like Sid Cowans. What are doing m8?.
Advice here now,
1.Stop listening to SG(he talks out is ass)
2.Sack your agent.
3.Say your sorry to MON,the fans and you team mates.
4.Sign a 4 yr deal(with no stupid clauses).
5.Lift up the Uefa cup in the no.6 claret and blue shirt and captains armband.
red can you tell me where you saw MONs comments on who he would like to buy because there are a few people on this site who would love to know. As for Barry i dont care if he stays or goes any more but if he goes dont let it be on the cheap, i think what a lot of liverpool fans dont realise is he was set at that price not to make money but because we dont want or need to sell him but because if we wanted to replace him with a similar player with similar experience there are not many international midfielders in the prem with 10 years experience and still in their prime why do you think benitez is interested in the first place. Dont forget barry keeps lampard out of england and pretty sure lampard is better than alonso
LINK
We had offers, but they were not enough so we decided he needed to stay with us. For me it is not a problem if he stays or not. He can stay, we always have felt he is a good player.
â€We are only talking about a very, very good price. He is a good player, if he is not going to bring a good price then it is very simple, easy to understand.â€
Quote - Rafael Benitez re - Alonso. Check you out you big fat hypocrite!!!
Bassam, Another scouse know it all, did Barry not play in the 2000 FA cup final against Chelsea?
Is it me or are all these Liverpool fans on here today complete idiots?
Message to Scousers
1. Barry is worth £18 million the same as Hargreaves and Carrick
2. You can't afford him
3. Liverpool were made to apologise and make a donation to Spurs charity for the way they conducted themselves over Robbie Keane
4. You can't afford Barry and the whole world knows it! You are a laughing stock Look I'm laughing at you
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha
if barry stays he better sign a new contract otherwise clear off, dnt want him joining the scouse scum next summer for half the price due to that stupid bosman ruling. i'd sell him to arsenal wenger could help his career more than benitez. i will also be supporting every team liverpool play this season c'mon everton!!!!
Perfect aticle.
Obvious scousers are gonna come and start disagreeing, but you are right.
Josh C, I 100% agree with you. I hate them alloy stealing scousers more than Birmingham.
www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/2008/08/10/aston-villa-plot-shock-bid-for-joe-cole-115875-20692120 - read this!!!!!!!!!!!!
Joe cole to....Aston Villa!!!
Oh that link dont work
just type joe cole to aston villa in google and it will be one of the first results
Barry would be mad to go to Liverpool now, it should show him how the club is being run as it's only a matter of time before the fat waiter gets the sack. The saying to may cooks comes to mind.
To all scousers who wish to come on here with pathetic excuses why Barry is rated at 18mil
Carson - 10mil
Veronin - 6mil
Keane - 19mil
Using this (Rafas) valuation as a measuring stick Barry for 18mil is a steal. If you want him pay up, or get another loan. Otherwise take your frustrations out on your idiotic, disfunctional manager and owners. The Villa are right behind you now and you are all shitting yourselves. Liverpool is on the slide, there is no top four anymore just top three and you know it. The club will be liquidated as soon as you miss out on the Champions League for the first year.
Ps Fatkev - "Liverpool are just the Birmingham of merseyside. They have the chav fans & scum board", Gold!
Fuck off you scouse bastards. Go rob your neighbours you stupid fucks!
P.S. i know this wont get posted :D
redrobert are you smoking crack? Who fears liverpool in the prem? hull, maybe, yes you have got gerrard torres and now keane but the rest of your team are no superstars.thats why you stay in the same 4th place every year and if we dont finish 4th this year theres a few that have got a chance like spurs and the the better half of mersyside everton!!! are skipper wants to leave but you cant afford him!! sounds like something iv heard before......gerrard! your fat bastard manager is the only fool in this as he is having the piss took out ov him by 2 people that DONT CARE about your shit club
Aston Villa are looking at an audacious £17.5million bid to lure Joe Cole from Chelsea.
Martin O'Neill's staff have put the 26-year-old England star on their radar if Chelsea manage to prise Robinho away from Real Madrid.
They suspect Cole, who has just two years left on his Stamford Bridge contract and has yet to have serious talks on a new one, could then be surplus to requirements.
Villa could then offer him a way out to play regular football and protect his place in Fabio Capello's England squad.
Cole has suffered from Chelsea's massive squad, playing 90 minutes of a Premier League game only 12 times last season, and the arrival of the Brazilian as well as Portuguese star Deco would be a massive blow to him.
jimbo, why are my comments pathetic? is it because they are facts? because Iam gonna say it again, who's your best player after Barry? Cause whoever he is, if Liverpool come knocking, his bags out of your pathetic small club will be packing!!!!!!!!hahahaha and you all know that is a FACT!!!!!!!!! Keep finding talent you little club and we'll take them away from you, lol hahahahaha. Just like that, lol.
Rafa has been on thin ice for sometime - I've put money on him this year being the first for the chop - look how his odds have gone up of late ......
Interesting that Villa haven't replied on the web yet re Liverpool .....
If the Cole thing is true I'd love it - He's one of the most gifted players in England by a long way. Even if we could manage a loan. He's got to be playing and would fit so well into our fold.
Anyway, not going to waste my time be-littleing Liverpool as deep down they all know what direstion there team is going and its not Northwards!
Benitez and his american cohorts have single handedly turned Liverplop from a team most fans had if not an affection at least respect into a team that signifies todays football, corporate whores with no morals or most importantly CLASS. Liverplop you will have most teams cheering you this season but only to lose. Your chicken players rotate more than the poor chickens on my tesco's rotisserie.
This is the death throws of a great club ruined by a manager who does not know how to deal in the transfer market and worse two owners who have driven the club into severe debt. Remember this, every debt has to be paid you can never bury your head in the sand and think it will go away.
I'm afraid we are seeing the destruction of some of the best clubs in this country.
chelsea in heavy debt
Liverpool in heavy debt and I feel the most vulnerable.
and Man Utd also have the biggest debt of all.
what nabout Joe Cole to the Villa?
Andy Nice article. I cant say any more than Howard Berlin who I think has summed things up perfectly. We should ignore the reds who come on here, they're so one eyed they will never see our side of the story. We should, though, be very proud of our Manager and Chairman, not only how they have stuck up for our club in this affair but also how their relationship & financial clout contrasts with 'pools.
The signings we have made and that are now being rumoured are very exciting and in the next couple of seasons we will move above them, if not earlier, and have the last laugh.
sick to death with attitude of hub cap robbers, half of them have never been to a match. if they went to stanley park they would end up at goodison park ( home of a respected football club ).
Oh Liverpool, Liverpool, Liverpool,!!
If you want him buy, if not then just FWOK OFF!!
ANd i also have it on good authority (one of Liverpools ex-board members before the Yanks come in) that Rafa isn't whiter than white!
A very clever man but has delisions of grandeur, like the rest of you!!
NOW FWOK OFF TO YOUR OWN BLOGS YER BIG TITS!!
(Oh and i need some new hub-caps if you could nick me some then great!)
if they dont wanna pay 18mil they should just fuck off pile o scouse cunts
and did anyone see the mercury and mirror they both say we are going after joe cole for 17mil
sign him up
ALL clubs play dirty when buying a player.
Liverpool, however, have reached a new level and it's now laughable they're still scrapping within the club to decide whether to go for GB or not.
Wouldn't it be funny if they changed their mind, making Benitez look like the cretin that he is and forcing Barry to crawl back to Villa Park?
It may not happen but every day that passes I secrently wonder how worried is Barry becoming..let's loan him to Walsall instead, his tidy passing would light up League 1 and he could finally be the star of the division.
Still not a sound with regards to De La Red on papers, websites etc.
All the scousers on this board are missing the point when they moan that Barry is not worth 18M. That price is not based purely on his skill, he is our best player, and would be sorely missed, and 18M is the price of the disruption it would cause to lose him, and replace him. And that 12m offer today just takes the biscuit. I know we haven't come away from this totally blameless, but liverpool have shown themselves up as a right tin-pot outfit. We are well due a result against you, and I hope Barry scores the winner for Villa come august 30th.
talking of hub cap nickers wasnt anfield evertons ground before tou stole that aswell.(just a bit of history for all the red glory hunters)!!!!! ;)
TO ALL LIVERPOOL FANS WHO HAVE POSTED TODAY!!!
Over the last 3 months the UK media have have played their part in exposing Liverpool FC as a club who are a million miles away from the likes of Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal in terms of overall control and financial capability, I accept that this will be embarracing for you all considering your great history having never won the premier league title etc..
However as a means of retaliation there raelly is no need to write posts to genuine Villa supporters, purely aimed at getting a reaction - let this go, you are finished, sorry for being direct but have you had a god look at your squad and considered who is really wanted by other clubs, why do you think Villa want the cash?
I hope Mon goes public and expresses an interest in Torres next week. makes a few bids under £5 mill, with a wage in the region of 75 thou per week. He can then raise the bid to 16 mill on the 30th with a vow to get him in the January window. By January the reds should be mid-table and Torres suitably unsettled and the Mon can declare we have enough talent in the reserves so we no longer need him.
See how they like it.
Oh god i dont care if we are not the one to break into the top four this year, although i really want us to, i just pray that 1 of Villa, man city, spurs or everton get into the top 4 about liverpool that would be god damn amazing, stop these cocky scousers shouting there mouths of thinking because they are currently bigger than villa they can "have our players". Unbelievable arrogance and i hope to god they get knocked down a peg or two. Well at least we dont have to worry about them winning the premier league this year ha!! At least we dont have to worry about that.
taglor - yur a bloody champ!!
and to liverpool fans - yu talk the talk but tell me, when was the last time yu carried the premier league title?? will this yr be yur year?? like last yr?? and the yr before?? haha!! if we win 4 of the draws were champions?? but the thing is, yu DIDNT!! YU FINISHED 4TH YU DOGS!!
and whichever of ur scum keep siggesting we have no chance of 4th, just remember for 30 of the 38 weeks last season, villa were hot on the heels on the red scum that is merseyside!
and to redrobert yu wannr know our next best player after barry -
hmmm we have no one?? i can only think of maybe young, davies, larusen, etc etc?? damn, we are a one man team... i mean who have liverpool got without torres or stevie g?? lemme think, reina ?? nah too complacent!! oh kuyt?? hmmm how many goals he score last season?? not even 5!! hahaha!!
we are a one man team?? mate look at yur playing squad!!
cant wait for the day everton beat yu and the day the red nose scum come to VP!!
yu livo fans are living in the past!!
If there was justice in the world, livo would get relegated - but i may be pushing it there!!
to think, i used to respect that club!
liverpool are skint, end of. their owners cant even get a loan. what a shambles of a club they have turned into. I couldnt careless what any scouser on here says, the whole world have lost respect for them over this. thye have known the price since May. They are just gutted that oneill wont be pushed around - hilarious. and now they say they are looking at other players? good for them, carry on come back when you have £18m. What a bunch of bin dipping jokers. Liverpool FC have really fallen from grace. sad times for them. :'( :'(
hey u liverpoo fans get off the best blog in the prem!!!!
i agree with keef too
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
does this mean if barry stays our pursuit of de la red will be over cause lets be honest were not exactly short of central midfield players why go buy another one and then allow barry to stay. i for one cant bare to look at gareth barry anymore and if i was the manager hed be gone by now his heart clearly isnt in it for us anymore we need to concentrate on getting a good right winger, swp, james milner, antonio valencia as this news looks like an end to de la red coming to villa. i hope im wrong
Liverpool have no money simple as that. Over £300million in debt with the loans the yanks took out on the club and they make a loss every year so how can you clowns say its not that ye dont have the money when its clear to everybody else that ye dont. The facts are that ye are barley hanging on to that forth spot and you all know it how will you finance that loan when the forth cl spot is taken away from ye? ill tell ye what will happen when ye lose that cl place can anybody from Liverpool read this word administration it means your the next Leeds.
Basically it went down like this.
Liverpool: "How much do you want for him?"
Villa: "18m. We will not accept a penny less and the price is not up for discussion"
Liverpool: "How about 12m"
Villa "No"
Liverpool "ehh okay 14?"
Villa "no we said 18m"
Liverpool "Right, we'll get back to you.
Later......
Liverpool "Okay, here you are, there's your 15m"
Villa "We said EIGHTEEN ASSHOLE"
Liverpool "Ah FFS can you not just cut us a break. We're poor like"
Villa "Right fine he's staying, Now piss off"
Liverpool "Ah would you not just give him to us, seeing as how we've unsettled him now"
Villa "STFO and GTFO it!!!
Liverpool " Ah YOU'RE MEAN!!"
liverpool used to be a big force and well respected team who could pretty much buy any player they wanted...now they are a very in-debt, corporate business.who cant even afford £18mil for one of the best english midfielders around!unlucky!!!!!hahah
steve gerrard, gerrard....he kisses the badge on his chest, then hands in a transfer request, steve gerrard gerrard!!!
Hmmm rotisserie..I'll have roasted Skrtel and Mascherano and a honesy glazed Sami Hyypia please.
If Liverpool want Barry, they must pay the price asked. It is as simple as that. It is irrelevant what they think Barry is worth, it is Villa's valuation which is the deciding factor whether Liverpool like it or not. If either they do not have the money or decide they are not willing to pay the price, they should shut up and stop complaining about it. After all, if Liverpool cannot afford Barry or any other player they are just wasting their time and that of other people's, and the player's time too.

These are some of the thoughts that come into my head about the Liverpool Manager and Board when I think about this transfer farce. They should hang their heads in shame. I feel a little sorry for the fans as they, along with everyone else, must know their club is adrift and as sure as eggs is eggs, at some point, this will affect their performances on the field. Good luck with the coming season, I think you're gonna need it!!
I too am pretty damn disappointed in the way Liverpool have gone through this business. Even though Barry was a Villa favourite if Liverpool put in a bid, in private, in a straightforward way of £10mil, and MON rejected it, and they continued bidding, i think Barry would still have left because he knows they're a bigger club, but b) he wouldn't be a very controversial character in the Villa team anymore and c) he would still have his pride left as he wasn't squabbling around with newspapers demanding to be let go, because he wouldn't have known about the bids.
This could even be called 'tapping up' a player using the media and i think we should just do what Man Utd did and block contact with Real Madrid and also get FIFA/FA involved.
And now there's a story about how Liverpool have bid £18mil for David Silva of Valencia. Shows how much Barry is worth to them doesn't it...
Just read the comments made by Rick Parry stating that their failure to pay up is not about questionning the Managers judgement or the the ability of the player. Well Mr Parry, it seems like Mr Benitez thinks he's worth the money so you ARE questioning his judgement. You are also questioning the worth of a player and you are therefore questioning his ability. This wouldn't have been quite so bad if you hadn't just shelled out £20m on Robbie. I wouldn't necessarily put Barry in the same class as Ronaldo or Gerrard but would definitely think he's worth as much if not more than Keane and I'm sure most people would agree.
As somewhat of a surprise to me is that I'm starting to feel a little sorry for Gaz Baz - which is something that I never thought I'd hear myself say after what he's done but there you go.
according to THE DAILY STAR ON SUNDAY it is reported that ASTON VILLA HAVE BID FOR RUBEN DE LA RED AND TALKS ARE ON GOING
however the article also goes on to say that the move hinges ON GARETH BARRY'S PROPOSED MOVE TO LOANAPOOL.
so it seems what i said earlier was correct so gareth if your reading sunshine fuk off and take your seat on the liverpool bench you can be the new sidwell of liverpool enjoy your 9 minutes of champions league football
the rumours surrounding joe cole also i find laughable at best must be a slow day for the mirror ill eat my sock if we sign him simple as. .......... villa till i die
18 mill 4 barry is only 16.2 mill 4 villa after his cut.
if he wants to go why not hand in a transfer forget his "loyalty" bonus and the asking price can be 16.2 mill take the cost of his wages we get stuck with him for the rest of the season it can come down to 15 mill.barry is class but he is gonna go next season anyway for next to nothing and with the likes of joe cole and de le red being linked who cares so do the decent thing barry .
Im sick of scouse tramps trying to convince themselves they're so much better than us while loitering on this blog.If you had a club that was run like AVFC this whole ordeal would have been over long ago.I hope that in Liverpool's dealings with Martin O'Neill and Randy Lerner this summer you can recognise the class and professionalism instiled throughout this club, and try and learn from the pride and integrity here, that your football club could only wish for.
See you on the 31st of August, Barry or no Barry.
A simple analogy.
I have a car. A bloke walks up and says I'd like to buy that. How much do you want for it? I say it's not for sale. He persists and a couple of weeks later is back and says look I really want it name your price. I say alright then £18,000. He says I'll give you £12,000. Now what is my response likely to be? You can **** right off, perhaps.
Yes I know that's simplistic and Barry is a human being with his own opinions on the subject. But frankly Pool should be told exactly where to go. We own his registration it is up to us to name our price. Put up or shut up.
FUCK OFF YOU FUCKING SCOUSER BASTARDS!!!!!!!
Reds fans, if we could suspend the usual interclub rivalry for just a moment to address a few issues.
Barry like most players outside of the Champ Lge places has had his head turned by a grand old football club. A club of tradition and calibre. However, even if you refuse to accept the ill-conceived manner of your clubs approach for Brry, backed up by Spurs, then you surely cannot brush aside the lack of respect shown to two of your own, Steve Finnan and Xabi Alonso. Two players who have served your club with distiction have been bandied around various suitors, entirely against their will. Finnan for one has had to watch as year in year out Benitez attempts to replace him with various continental full backs. And every year he has kept his head down and seen every one of them off. Alonso's crime? He missed a game to attend teh birth of his child.
If you must bang on about the stature of your fooball club, and your past achievements warrant such pride, then you must also accept that the recent behaviour of the club does not sit well with that tradition. In short, Benitez is dragging the name of LFC down in to the mud. With hindsight, once Rafa has been removed or walks, I believe you will all come to agree.
fitzy have you got a link to that story I can't find it on the site? cheers
Redrobert, your comments again are those of a five year old kid.
You speak as though Liverpool are miles bigger than us - sorry but your wrong! If Man Utd Chelsea or Arsenal came knocking then yes any player would want to leave but your nowhere near the likes of them.
For four months you have chased Barry but have not been able to come up with the fair valuation of £18m, that fat Spaniard has been shouting his mouth off that he's over priced yet he puts huge price tags on the likes of Carson, Crouch, Alonso etc.
So Mr Redrobert unless you can write something decent other than spout rubbish dont bother.
How did it go "ha ha ha lol lol!!!!!" - IDIOT.
Norwood Villain, simple and very true.
Well they obviously don't have the money. Benitez and Gerrard desperately want Barry, but yet they haven't got him yet so do the math. They spent the bulk of their budget on a fairly average 28 year old striker, hence the need to sell their "fringe players" to make up the cash.
Tell me this Liverpool fans - when was the last time your club had to sell to buy? Not looking good for you lot at the moment.
its alright all these liverpool fans saying we should just let barry leave and £18 million is too much to pay for him, but in the end he is villa's player and if villa wanted to they could put a £30 million pound price tag on barry's head. i bet if you asked most liverpool fans gerrard or torres value they say probably about £30 million each for them and liverpool fc would probably value them the same, which is fair because gerrard and torres are liverpool's players.
PAY UP OR P*** OFF
is it not this simple... Rafa "the great" (bafoon) has said barry is worth the 18 mil... just cuz you now cant afford it dont mean his value has dropped since your realisation of that... you liverpool fans are really stupid... carrick, hargreaves... yes younger... yes more cl experience... but who's starting for england... and why? walcot is younger than ronaldo... dont make him better or worth more!
ps joe cole would be awesome at villa!
Its funny how Liverpool fans look at it as our fault. Check this quote from Spurs website after reporting ManU and Liverpool to the FA
"The behaviour of both clubs has been disgraceful. We told both clubs very early on that we had no interest in selling Robbie or Dimitar, respectively, and that they should refrain from pursuing the player. Both clubs arrogantly chose to ignore this request and we now have evidence that both clubs have systematically been working to prise the players away from us, outside of PL rules of conduct."
Says it all really! You Liverpool supporters really need to wake up and smell the coffee and see that your manager is the true problem with your club, looks to me your club is going through some big internal problems and your just taking out on everyone else.
UTV
You guys would of embraced GB if you got him for any price.
Liverpool has spent 200 million pounds on transfers since 2004,and rafa still can't get it right!..
To all Liverpool fans out there, i feel sorry for you. Your owners are disgraceful and obviously do not have the money to meet our valuation of Gareth Barry. The price has been set and if you can not meet it then that is your fault. Your fickle owners say that they think GB is over priced yet they spend 20mil on Robbie Keane!! GB is twice the player he is!! If you guys cant afford top players then stop pursuing them in hope we wll drop our valuation of the player. Under the current ownership the future of LFC looks bleak. Good luck to you.....you will need it.
If he wants to go let him go............ you know like Liverpool fans did with Steven Gerrard when he wanted to go to Chelsea. ;D

omg will that meen you gotta find some 1 to loan you money everytime ?
you ARE the NEW Leeds, points to be deducted soon have no fear, wtf you gonna do then :)
internet hooliganism is funny.
What is it they say about message board fights? something about both sides being losers.. funny sht anyway. I want in.
Is Barry actually worth 18m? No, but when you consider that he's one of our best players and a team that we're aiming to overtake is making the offer then of course you will need to pay over the odds for him. duh.
Nobody can rival Liverpool fans for unthinking blind faith in the righteousness of their cause, except for perhaps the taliban, but I'll tell you something that you blinkered reds will refuse to believe anyway: Your board of directors does everything to enforce the negative stereotypes surrounding clueless corporate American owners while ours quietly gets on with building a brilliant English football team. You wont be, but you should be worried. We are coming for you my swaggering slack-jawed friends and there's nothing you can do about it.
I will be pleasantly staggered if we finish above 'pool this season, (or if we sign Joe Cole for that matter, wtf?) But for a club so obsessed with the history and 'heritage' you constantly prattle on about you should be aware it's about looking at the bigger picture. Look at the people running your proud club. Does that American cck taste nice? You're getting from both ends and when you get tossed aside like some used Thai rentboy nobody will want to invest in the financial black hole that is LFC and our brummie bellies will wobble with laughter as you slide from view.
They don't want to spend anymore. Barry could be the steadying influence 'pool need and he's the man to let Stevie "I'd drop you like a hot turd if Abramovic coughs up" G play to his full potential but those if those bickering businessmen have decided it's not economically viable then he's just going to have to swallow his pride, grovel a bit and get on with the job in claret and blue. And he will, because he is a model pro.
You better pray you get fourth again this season or it will happen sooner than you think.
Anyway, best of luck to you. Cheerio.
You Liverpool fans are full of bull****!! There wasn't any thought of Barry leaving our club until little $tevie Me started whispering sweet nothings in Barry's ear during the last England friendlies (or in plain English for you Liverpool fans --- started TAPPING HIM UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).
Until Barry played along side him, Gerrard never met an England game he couldn't disappear from. So once Gerrard (the only reason that fourth-or-bust Benitez still has the Liverpool job) convinces Benitez that he must have Barry in the side, the game to tap up, unsettle, fracture the Villa's relationship with their captain begins.
How about the article where Benitez says "Aston Villa have a problem, their captain wants to leave." That was an utter disgrace. And if I had to guess, it was probably Gerrard and Barry's agent that came up with the idea for Barry to say what he said in News of the World. All part of putting the pressure on Villa so that they have to drop their price.
And by the way, whether 18 million pounds is the right price for Barry isn't the point. Because of what he has done for the Villa, Barry is worth that to us. Maybe not anyone else, but for us he is. The other posters have told you why, I won't repeat it.
It is too bad that Barry can't really see what the end of the road is here. He will sit the bench and barely play in the Champ. League, probably play more in the domestic cups than the league and lose the sharpness that makes him such an effective player for England.
As for the news about Joe Cole. That would be a wow signing for the Villa and if Robinho does go to Chelsea, Cole coming here would certainly be within the realm of possibility.
@ Chinavillan
You in SH by any chance?
OK red b#stards, who has now come out to say that "We feel Barry is overpriced at 18 million"? Is that club business or is that public business? And isn't it a bit late to be making that compliant? What "big" club says 18 mil is too much for a player the manager says he wants?
I hear LFC fans stating over and over how "confident" they are; I feel they doth protest too much. I think they're afraid of being exposed as a shell of their former selves, i.e. FALLING OUT OF THE "BIG FOUR".
Well this article has certainly opened my eyes!
I moan about MON a lot when it comes to transfers but he still earns my respect as a manager and I'd stick up for him if a Liverpoop fan started slating him, and I'd rather have things done in a respectable manner as he does every time he makes a deal. Secondly, all the poop fans are prepared to do is say Barry isn't worth £18m... not one of them is prepared to stand up for Manuel (Benitez) - and that fact alone just shows the state of Liverpoop FC at the moment.
The club is slowly losing the respect of every other team in the land, they are just turning into another corporate "prawn sandwich" shop. Don't get me wrong I've never liked Liverpoop, the people, or the club, but in a football sense I used to look at them with envious eyes, and they used to get my respect if nothing else - now I wouldn't urinate on the kop if it was on fire!
The scouse fans on here are just looking for somewhere to vent some frustration, they probably dont even care if Barry goes there or not, they just want to have a moan and whinge as their perfect little club is being well and truly dragged through the dirt.
The bottom line is the only club to come out of this with any respect - whether Barry goes or not - is Aston Villa. We wont be pushed around by you, we wont cave in and hand you what you want on a silver platter just because you were a big club once, you will have to give US what WE want or crawl back to the dead dog eating slums you came from.
(Did I get too personal then?)
oi oi China Villan. In SH? what are you doing to indoctrinate the locals? it don't take much...
Good comments from couer de lion
My father supported Liverpool,as he was born there, thankfully i wasn't,this was in the days of Shankly,Paisley etc,a perfectly respectful decent club who won everything on offer and on the whole a great advert for british football(excluding the obvious).
Now the way they go about thier business is nothing short of disgraceful,at least we are not alone, with Spurs getting involved.
I read today that Dick Parry(no not a spelling mistake!!)is saying it's our fault for pricing GB too highly.
They really have become a laughing stock.
I know many of you won't agree but i do now feel a little bit sorry for GB(badly advised?)
I think it would be good for us if he stays
Up the Villa
appparently villa are interested in plasil (he has a first name), carlos(?) cuellar (from rangers) and joe cole we might offer £17.5 miilion for him because scolari might not have room for him in his squad because he brought deco.
UTV ;D
p.s. did you hear about MON sayins that he wanted to sign 5 players before the start of the seaon? (this was just before we signed young and shorey)
well incoming 3 transfers!
FACT: MON-playing hard-ball and exposing Liverpool as a Club who can't control the internal transfer market
FACT: They want Barry
FACT: They destabilised him and turned his head [sorry,I'm wrong of course, it was never mentioned when he roomed with StevieG]
FACT : They expected us to roll over in a cheapskate deal to get rid of a dissafected player
FACT: MON is prepared to keep him to sweep the terrace if need be
FACT: MON put a realistic market price on GB and stuck to it.
FACT: They can't afford him
FACT: We don't need Finnan either
FACT: They have to pay out NOW, not when the boat comes in
FACT: They can't
FACT: They have to sell to buy him
FACT: No-one wants to buy their players
If we end up selling him I really hope it ends being Arsenal. If we keep him we can mount a serious challenge on the Champions League and that might persuade him to stay. Lets hope we play him in Europe on wednesday to mess it up for Benetiz. I'd love it if Real Madrid offerded him £30m for Torres, then we would see him spit his dummy out. My big fear is by the end of the match againt the scouse scum the deal will have been done. O'Neill should stick to his guns and just for once show a so called big club that we are not a feeder club, or else this time next year we will be having this all over again about Ashley Young.
to all liverpool fans
18 mill or you get nothing.
stop your moaning and put your money where your mouth is.
rafathered
"We lost just 4 games last year! Turn 5 of the 13 draws into wins and were champions!!!"
and if i had 6 numbers on the lottery id be a millionaire!!!
what was your point with that
football dont work in if's and's or but's
it a results business if you score more than your opponants you win simple logic..
my advice play football win games see where it gets you use the revenue earned to pay for the players you do have and hope to continue to stay in the top 4 to continue to pay for your players that you to a loan out on for the next 10 years ...
we on the other hand dont owe anybody anything every signing we buy from now on will be paid in full play for us for the next 10 years and generate more revenue than initial transfer fees we will continue to get stronger while all the other clubs including man u struggle to pay what they owe
within the next 10 years villa and chelski will be the top 2 teams in the epl and liverpool will struggle to survive remember gerrards getting on abit now he wont last long same as keane,
torres will be gone when you cant afford to pay his wages...
footballers are mercenaries (paid soldiers) do what they are payed for buy the highest bidder when thye banks call for repayments on these loans and you cant afford it where the hell will that liver the once great liverpool fc?
joining leeds and worse case wimbldon...remember them....... ;D
Liverpool do not have the money for Barry, If they did then the Fat spanish waiter would not have been urging the board to make an ILEAGEL loan move from his mate.
When will the blinkers come off the bindippers, you are being caught in the leauge, you have been passed by manure and arsenal and chelski, and can not compete with them. You have no money for a new stadium and have 2 owners who were going to loan the club money not give them it.
liverpool are a joke, and are still living with the sympthay vote.
Why do all these Liverpool fans have to come here now? I bet most of them are the same person like the first 2 posts red & redrobert, are we all supposed to believe that they are two different people? Most of these Liverpool fans on here have probably never been to Anfield themselves and live millions of miles away.
Barry wants to go to Liverpool BUT not enough to hand in a transfer request to lower the price. Liverpool are now moaning about the price why:? its been that for 3 months. Rafa tried to intimidate us to sell on the cheap and Liverpools many attempts at this are not working on us. Every other football fan ive spoken to has said that we are doing the right thing and good on us.
I am totally fed up of hearing about GB. GB, his agent, Benitez, the owners who can't agree and the fans who don't want him the whole lot would disgrace a reptile house.
But the worst are their 606 fans, we must win the league boring boring boring.
So why are you spending all your time on our blog you big big champion league boys...... Cause your worried sick and looking behind you just like the fat waiter.
Good teams look ahead we are one and you are not and I for one will love the day we pass you by... not long now you'd better start phoning 606.
Looking forward with MON
Init barry should say no or martin should just drop the price by 2 million and let him fcuk off i just wish this stupid sh1te would come to an end
Why don't you Scousers cotton on to the fact that we are not a selling club, don't give a Monkey's about Liversmall, you cannot borrow the money for Barry, so disappear, we are not interested.
I have sat & read all the above comments & am pretty dissapointed with the standard of posts from all the Liverpool fans. Not one is a balanced argument.
As for the Price for Barry 18m is maybe just a small touch high with maybe 17m being a touch more realistic. I base this on the fact he is 27/28 whilst players of similar ilk i.e Hargreaves, are a couple of years younger so lets say 1m off their 18m value for each year they are younger ... That makes 16m... Then take into account he is currently holding his place in the England side ahead of both of them ... So we should surely add at least 1m.. That totals 17m. ...However Villa were not looking to sell so rightly in my opinion the price is nudged up a little.. This is the same practice as goes on at any other club in world football, Indeed especially so at Liverpool on several occasions in this exact same transfer window, so there really is nothing unreasonable whatsoever in the 18m valuation.
Those are the cold hard facts of the situation so all these comments simply stating "He's not worth 18m" & then hurling some schoolyard "our club is bigger than your's" rubbish is in fact because you have no real argument to come back with regarding the valuation. Or is it he is not worth 18m because thats what your clubs owners decided to come out with? In fact where was their reasoning behind those comments? Because they wouldn't be able to get that back in 5 years time? If so that is utter utter nonsense.. I doubt you would get anything like 18m for Carrick, Hargreaves either in 5 years time so the argument is simply a "KOP" out!!
At the end of the day we want our best players to stay to build on what we achieved last season. GB, like it or not is our best player, hence the interest from other clubs in signing him. If he stays, which looks increasingly likely, back him and he will continue to deliver. Not one of you out there would turn down a rise to the top of your field, unless you are the lowest of the low, we value him @ £18m, we value him more as the catalyst for so much of what we do well. We scored more goals than 'Pool last season despite the media-toady-Torres effect, we can do it again. If we don't then **** it, he can go, because we need to change anyway. It's the team, not the individuals. It's Aston Villa. Whoever puts on the shirt... Villa! Villa! Villa!
Sorry in advance for the reminder, but back in the days when Blues did the double over us, I used this to retort to the gloating Bluenoses: 'form is temporary, class is permanent'.
There may have been a time when that same saying may have made me think that Liverpool will indeed return to their former glories and win the league... but actually their manager, owners and fans alike, all show that class can indeed disappear. Fortunately, under the stewardship of our managers and owners, we have no such concerns, just plenty to look forward to.
UTV!
Villa initially stated that barry was NOT for sale. The 18m price tag was meant to act as prohibitive price to scare Liverpool off. It worked, end of.
Liverpool may be a big club, but showed with their lack of class how far behind chelsea, man u and arsenal they actually are. Keane was an obvious replacement for David Villa who still cannot be attracted to Liverpool despite Benitez and gayboy Torres.
Alls i say is villa will win a league again b4 liverpool will,it may be 10years but will get there b4 u,Hicks n Gilette wanted the villa b4 they bought into pool and doug ellis refused to sell to them as he knew they had no keen interest for the football club,it is a business in there eyes (money maker),liverpool is a over rated piece of dirt, your fans were claimed by uefa to be the most aggressive in europe last year, dnt deny it its true,SCUMBAG club n thats that, keane 20m u got robbed, hes a bottler,im irish he doesnt do it on the big games, plus barry is crap now all of a sudden cos he mite not be going, sure if he signs he will the best thing ever according 2 u pool muppets,O liverpool will win d league this year its are season i know it!! that wat pool fans have been sayin for years,ha ha,Tramps thats all
i was at anfield in 1982,about half way up the anfield road end,and i lobbed a steak and kidney pie,up in the air towards the seats where the scousers were sat, then watched as it flew out of the evening sky gathering pace and homed in on a fat scouser who was reading his program,i can still see his reaction today..lol...benitez and torres the scousers answer to rene and renato....
So all you Villa fans think your going to finish above Liverpool and sneak into the top 4 and play Champions League next year. I would really like to know where are the facts that there is any chance of it happening. Liverpool's fringe players could beat Aston Villa, particulary without your precious captain. Seriously, apart from Barry who have you got that is any good??? I cant name one player, I am so sorry. Your signings so far this summer are all second rate nobodys, how many of them play for their international teams? Can't you see that you played above yourselves last year and MON got the very best out of the team. You have travelled as far as you possibly can, its only downhill from here. Maybe you will even join your mates from Birmingham City in the Championship soon. No wonder Barry wants to leave, he knows that AVFC have peaked. The fans on here are just jealous and bitter that you cant be one of the big boys.
Lol somersetvilla, but are you sure the pie didn't get nicked before it landed?
Taglor
That was funny!
Hey chaps! why not ignore the comments from those Northern cash converter punters and then they will do what their management have been told - go away.
Ride on Liverpool fans... you're just bitter your club doesn't have any money and Spurs have a better squad than you now.
But it's not all bad - you at least have a chance of winning the UEFA Cup next season :)
F***King scousers nobends.....they piss me off thinking their so great when in the last couple of seasons the only thing they have been doin in the league is struggling to keep 4th place
STFU and go steal some hubcaps
This saga is only going to end one of two ways - and both of them are wins for Aston Villa.
1: Liverpool pay our valuation of £18 million for Gareth Barry. A fair value, when you consider he was our club captain last season, a penalty taker, a brilliant and consistent performer and now and England regular as well. We don't need to back down from that valuation as it would take a similar level of investment for us to replace Barry in our time, but also because unlike some financially struggling Premiership clubs we don't need to sell players in order to buy. At the same time, £18 million for a 28 year old player who would have a limited resale value in two years time would respresent a great bit of business for us. We sell Barry for his valuation = Villa win.
2: Liverpool cannont or will not match our valuation, and Barry stays. We keep our captain and one of our most important players of the past few seasons. He cannot afford to sit out the season, or play halfheartedly - the World Cup qualifiers are just around the corner, and if he wants to fulfill his ambtions of representing England playing in a major International tournament, he will need to be focused and playing his best. As such, he will want his future secure and sorted out, and if it's not with Liverpool, it will be with us. Barry stays = Villa win.
Well done MO'N and Randy; whichever way this goes, Aston Villa football club will come out of it the stronger.
ScottD not many people here have said that we will finish above you but it isnt impossible, how can there be facts about where teams will finish in the coming season, you can look at the previous seasons and see that Liverpool have good form finishing in the Top 4 but that doesnt definatly mean that you will finish there again.
Your fringe players could beat Villa? Is that why you only beat us by a dodgy free kick given to you on the opening day last season with a full strenghth squad and we almost beat you at Anfield, you talk about facts then fail to use them in your argument.
I think we should ignore the bindippers, its obvious that due to their dissapointment over their summer signings all the can do is come onto our websites to get some entertainment. lets not give them the pleasure.
The red scum can pay up or they can go stick it. We value Barry at 18 million and if they don't, they're morons and can blow all that borrowed cash on all the Kuyts and Keanes and others flops they want--they'll still be chasing fourth, if not fifth or sixth. And then when they finally go into administration, we can just sit back and laugh. I'm glad MON and Randy won't budge an inch. To heck with those has-beens. ;D
Classic comments from some of you Villa muppets, I really cannot understand why GB would want to play with the likes of Torres, Gerrard, Mascherano, Keane, Carragher etc when he could stay and play with Shorey, Harewood, Reo-Cock, and Sidwell. £20k a week more and champions league every season? Forget it, I'll stay at the Villa who last won something in......remind me when it was. Thank god the Yanks have finally done 1 decent thing and realised MON is the little pr*ck we all know and overvalued him. Mascherano, 5 years younger and first pick for the Argies is worth £18m, GB is not and if we do not want to pay it we won't, simple as. GET A LIFE!
correct me if im wrong but liverpool are only in the qualifying stages for the Cl so if liverpool lose there game and we win then doesn't that mean liverpool wil;l be in the same competition as us?
Also if barry plays on thursday he will be cup tied and cannot play for liverpool in Champions league until after christmas
GB should stay at a club that is run properly and where he has great respect. He will be, if he's not already, a legend at Villa Park, he did'nt leave during the bad times he should stay for the good times. If the proposed move to have a minimum amount of home grown players on the pitch goes through, which I agree with, it will be Villa who come out on top, Liverpool will be strong this season with Torres and Keane, for whom Villa should have paid the extra 500,000 how ever long ago it was. Their midfield is very strong especially when Mascherano returns, Barry would have a challenge on his hands, which he could handle, but to leave a club where he would become their all time gretest and who I believe are on the up with or without him and go to one who've had their day, would be a regret.
To an earlier post about Liverpool being feared; okay you dominated the eighties, but it was'nt just the football that was feared was it,and besides everyone knows the 80's sucked. United dominated the 90's and are still strong because they know how to conduct themselves. I can take the jokes, but Villa dominated the 1890's and early 1900's until the first war. Now, whatever slagging you can give is worthless because in a few years the same will be made about Liverpool.
You've heard the term 'history repeating' We're back but don't be afraid, be very afraid.
Villa for Life
