Keane interested in Liam Ridgewell?

Tuesday, 29 May 07, 03:19 AM · Comments (5)

I've given up banging the Liam Ridgewell drum as it doesn't matter how many times I say I think he's got the potential to one day captain England, most disagree, just like most did when I starting banging the drum about Smiler McCann and our previous incumbent.

For me, Ridgewell is a proper star of the future and letting him go would be a huge mistake, but it appears Roy Keane at Sunderland is interested, if you are insane enough to believe what you read in the Mirror.

The thing with Ridgewell is he probably thinks he is fourth in the list at the moment, which as a central defender means you rarely even get on the bench. He is good enough to be annoyed and unless he is told different he'll not want to be sitting in the stands next season.

If he leaves we'll need to bring someone else in and if other rumours are believed the manager is actually looking for a central defender. The outlook isn't great for Ridgewell, if they're true.

Ridgewell definetly has potential but at the moment not enough potential to be pushing Mellberg and Laursen, where Cahill has the skill already. When you're young you don't want to be playing reserve games knowing it will be a long time before you secure a first-team slot. He'll leave, hopefully we'll be able to sign Gerard Pique from Man. Utd or someone that good in return.

If Ridgwell is going to Sunderland, i hope it's just loand out for the season before we do decide on his longterm future.

It wouldn't bother me if ridgewell did leave. However i would like him to stay and go on loan instead of a pernament move. i haven't heard villa being linked with too many players at the mo, but only time will tell. :)

I think the loan option, half season at a time, is the best option just in case of injuries.

Our priority should be the full backs as the ones we have are toilet - for the league position we should be aspiring to.

loan him out, so he can get experience and games under his belt.

it's not the days of ellis/o'leary. we don't need to sell anymore to raise cash for new players.
