Kit launch and another pre-season match announced

Friday, 27 June 08, 04:11 AM · Comments (34)

I woke this morning expecting to see loads of rumours and I've seen nothing new so instead of going over old ground I thought I'd look to the future.

The club have announced a free to attend kit launch on July 7th at Brindleyplace. Basically both kits will be unveiled and you can attend. Anyone that wants to take a few photo's and email them in will win themselves nothing, but no doubt the Mail will get 'an exclusive' about three hours before the event, much like last year.

It's a nice idea and I'd expect a few people to be there and a few to be calling in sick that day or have an extended lunch. SO, make a note; July 7th, 2pm at Brindleyplace. It might be fun.

In other news, another match has been added to the pre-season schedule. It takes place on on July 12 against FC Zurich at the UTO Stadium. I'm guessing they've renamed the UTO Stadium from something else, because after searching Google, I've found nothing; someone please explain where the UTO Stadium is, because I'm in a rush and don't have the time.

That's it for now I've got to rush back to work, but I'll hopefully be finished very soon and I'm going to spend the day making up rumours, Birmingham Mail style.

Zurich is in Switzerland and FCZ normally play at the Letzigrund (where some of the Euro matches have just been played and where they also stage the Zurich athletics meeting). I've never heard of the Uto stadium but there is a part of Zurich called Uto so maybe it's a case of crossed wires. I checked the FCZ site and there is nothing confirmed yet LINK but I'm sure it'll be played at the Letzigrund. Anyone needing help, advice, boozers let me know.

Sorry, my mistake the Utogrund LINK is a poxy stadium where YF Juventus ply there trade in the Swiss 3rd division. God only knows why we want to play there.

are we playing there as part of a deal for a player ?

I just hope that there are a few new signings to model the new kit at the launch. It has gone very quiet on the transfer front. It also looks like the scousers can't afford Barry.

Why would you hope a team we play in a pre season friendly are crap? Its better to get a challenge in pre season so you're more ready for the start of the season against some decent teams

brett Wrote: | 17.08BST | Jun 27, 2008

looking at it logically are we playing there because the stadium will be dodgy and the pitch even worse?

great preparation for a season of european football! not everyone plays on a carpet like we do

I work for Zurich Engineering, the insurance company!

And i can confirm we are not playing the mighty Villa in a pre-season friendly!

the letzigrund stadium might be having there pitch re-laid after euro 2008 and if its anything like my garden, grass seeds take ages to grow!! specially if they have pigeons eating the seeds.

To answer a few of your questions, yes FCZ are crap but they have a good bunch of fans. After the won the Swiss league 2 seasons ago all their best players left so unless it's part of the Salifou deal (who used to play for them) I doubt its part of any transfer. However, the Swiss league starts shortly after so this will be their last warm up match therefore they should give us a game. Last time Villa played here it was against FC Basel in the intertoto and Ginola had just signed, bad omens?

Just seen that Bolton have bought the swedish striker Elmander for £10 mill.... We are lucky we dont have a manager wasting our money on average players, this guy makes Crouch look good....!!

Hi, I'm a Villa fan from Geneva (Switzerland). I'll be at the Utogrund to watch that friendly game. Good to know : Zurich fans are the worst bastards in Switzerland. Their team is not so crap (at the Swiss level)they are far better than FC Will. We have a couple of good full back swiss players (Lichtsteiner, Behrami, Magnin)that could be good targets for Villa but I don't understand why Villa have bought Salifou. For me, it's one of the biggest mistery of the 21th century...

Swissvillan
Swissvillan Wrote: | 15.35BST | Jun 28, 2008

Salifou was at FC Wil but I'm sure there was an FCZ connection there somewhere. Aston Geneva, I disagree with you about the FCZ fans, they're one of the only sets of Swiss fans to show a bit of passion, ok so they might have the odd pitch invasion and a few street fights with Basel fans but at least they like a sing and a drink.
Hope to see you at the game but I just found out I'm supposed to be moving in with my girlfriend on that day - diplomacy is going to be needed so if you know anybody at the UN who can help i'd be grateful ;)

Yeah. Play.com also offers for £9.99.

It is well worth it.

Contains good highlights from all competition games, including chances in 0-0 matches.
Post match interviews for our best games, interviews and footage from AVTV aswell as 30 minutes extended highlights of Villa 5-1 Blues.

I live in Zurich and have a ticket for the FC Zurich match at Uto Grund.. tiny little place, shame its not at the Letzigrund.
As for tomorrow, Im heading off to Wil in the day, anyone got an idea of where to go for a beer before/after the match?

As for why FC Wil, MON said its simply for extra training and fitness... the Zurich game will be more of a contest, and will be Sidwells debut... along with Delfonso and the yougsters...
