Latest goalkeeper links: Jussi and Kameni

Saturday, 17 May 08, 08:39 AM · Comments (28)

I'm assuming Martin O'Neill hasn't gone on holiday and is in fact working hard to finalise the signings of a few players, one of which at least I'd like to hope is a goal keeper.

The latest ones linked to Villa are Idriss Carlos Kameni and Jussi Jääskeläinen and there is talk that the Jussi deal is as good as done, although I'm not going to stick my head out on that block just yet, but don't be surprised if it's confirmed fairly soon.

I'd quite like to see Jääskeläinen at Villa Park and hope it happens. He's 33 years old so does have the potential to play for another few seasons and from what I understand his contract with Bolton has expired, although this would need to be confirmed..

The other keeper linked is the best African keeper from 2006/07, Carlos Kameni. He's played at Espanyol since 2004 and well, that's about all I know about him.

If I was to put money on another keeper it would be on Brad Guzan, but I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens with his work permit.

That's it for the day, I'm off to watch the FA Cup final.

I would love to see jaaskelainen at VP, hes a fabulous goalkeeper. His coach Fred Barber is imo the best goalkeeping coach around (along with his partner Malcolm Webster) so id like to see him come aswell. Everything he touches turns to gold. Richard Wright (before he joined Arsenal) Robet Green, Paddy Kenny, Jussi.....

We really should offer jussi a contract considering martin said the other day he is lookin to sign at least 3 keeper jussi would be a great one of those 3

We should sign

Carson (Only if the price is right 10million is stupid)
Jussi
Myhill

Taglor you must be on crack if you think martin would bring him back to villa park just for the dummy to let another ball roll under his foot his crap thats why he plays for cardiff

I think I wud pull my hair out if Carson stayed at Villa for any more games. He is quite possibly the worst prem keeper I have seen in a long time.

Just to correct you Damo Jussi Jääskeläinen actually turned 33 in April so is not 31! still it is not old for a keeper and I agree he would make a good signing.

You seem to be getting a lot wrong this week, earlier in the week you suggested we may not get Bentley if United wanted him as a replacement for Giggs. Well Bentley is a right hand sided midfield player in the mould of beckham (i.e. great delivery but no real pace) Giggs is the opposite a pacey LEFT winger - but with not great delivery. Do you know anything about football? :) :) :)

Everyone makes mistakes Peter. Fortunately, you seem to always be there to point them out.

Would like jussi, something must be happening at the club regarding a keeper. I know Sorenson was out of contract but would be let him go so quickly know we only had Taylor and no one lined up?

Hope we get Guzan MON seems to rate him as well as Wenger (we all know how good he is at picking up a gem) American keeps temd to do well in the Prem to.

Jussi in goal for a few years then Guzan to take over in a few season when he adapts.

Uless theres some thing saying he has to play if hes granted a work permit.

Becks & Giggs used to swap sides at points during some matches. So bentley could effectively do the same thus replacing giggs. But yeah Jussi would be a great keeper for a younger one to learn off. Let's just hope he's not the only decent signing this summer. And taglor i kinda like the bring back Peter legend enklemen idea and keep jussi worried.

Damien i'm just curious about the transfer thing. In the in bit you've got Davies but that's not been confirmed yet or has it and i missed it ?. Don't worry it's not criticism it's a question.

kameni IMO is one of the best keepers in europe, im thinking alot of people havent seen much of him seeing as everyone is saying sign jussi
he's also got a but out clause of around 6mil euros

its not confirmed as far as i'm aware but martin o'neill did say a few months ago that it would, so i've put it up and when i put the post up about it i did say it contained a few assumptions

Some people rate Kameni as being one of the top five keepers in the world.

Villa_Rules maybe I was being ironic?! seeing as Enkelman lost Cardiff the fa cup and was our worst keeper ever. You absolute dimwit. I didn't even bother watching the match today and just as well from the sounds of it, load of crap.

Taglor hush ur noise son

Anyways a keeper in his 30s is best me thinks look example david james got be knocking the door of 40 soon and he is doing great

Jussi would be perfect

I've not commented on kameni for the fact i can't see us getting him and getting my hopes up for nothing.

Good news. Though I'd prefer:

Kemani
Guzan
Taylor

id like to see joe hart brad guzan and jussi sign all would improve our goalkeeping situation even though i see guzan and hart as undeveloped talents

Yeah Jussi must be on his way this time. I posted at the end of last summer on here that the deal was done then and he would be signing back then. I had it from a very reliable source back then and he himself was shocked it fel through - dont know why. But Oneil has obviously been interested. good keeper - should be first choice for 2/3 years and get a young one better than carson in to learn under him

shabba Wrote: | 07.29BST | May 18, 2008

Kameni is not good enough, very prone to errorsm ala Carson, plus, would be away for the African Cup of Nations every year as he's 1st choice for Cameroon..

Hope we stear clear of him.
