We just wanted to try and drum up a little more support for the petition by detailing a few things that people seem to be using in his defence.
The old Sir Alex Ferguson argument has come out again. Some people seem to put David O'Leary on a par with Ferguson and are saying that United never fired Lord Ferg after a bad run. Well, we've answered this before here. The argument doesn't stand up.
There is a new argument for O'Leary doing the rounds and that is old faithful. Squad size and injuries. Well, lets look back to Leeds before we clearly put this to bed. O'Leary went on a spending spree only matched in recent years by Chelsea and every season at Leeds he finished in a slightly worse position. After his first full season he finished 3rd, then after spending quite a bit of cash the following season he finished 4th.
The following season after spending more cash he finished 5th and the board then clicked. He's bloody useless! So they fired him.
The only difference between Villa and Leeds is the speed of the decline. If he had had more money at Villa maybe after his first season we would have finished 7th instead of 10th, but still below where we finished in his first season.
This year I think we'll be very lucky to beat our 10th of last season and so the decline will continue.
But to answer the critics about squad size and fitness we only have to look at one match this season, West Ham.
David O'Leary had his first choice team starting that night and we got smacked 4-0 by a team who had been a division below the season before.
There are no more excuses or arguments for David O'Leary. He should be picking up his P45 and probably the Ireland job before Sunderland.
Don't do a DOL and hide behind excuses and the false hope that they generate. The facts speak for themselves.
Sign the petition and do your duty as an Aston Villa fan.
