Lerner magic to make Aston Villa great again?

Financial success of any football club is directly linked to success on the pitch; this is fact written about in many reports for many years.

Randy Lerner won't buy Aston Villa unless he has a very good idea on how he can make Aston Villa great again as it will be a key driver to increasing revenue and ultimately what ends up in his pocket or the pockets of his shareholders.

Talk is cheap in football and all we're hearing from Neville is talk. He believes he has the backers but I'm afraid that isn't good enough for me. You've either got to have them and a sound business plan to back it up or it's just not good enough.

Also, ask yourself this question, do you really want a 'consortium' headed up by Michael Neville? I don't.

Randy Lerner has the money and a proven track record. He might not be what deep down we all want, an American owning our football club, but if he can bring the success on the pitch back to Villa Park won't that be enough?

I'm a big fan of Roman Abramovich but I don't particularly like what he's done at Chelsea. Would I swap Ellis for Abramovich though and the answer is a very emphatic yes.

As supporters we can not control the direction the game is taking we can simply support our club, hope for the best results and enjoy the journey.

What it really comes down to is would Randy Lerner be good for Aston Villa and the truth of the matter is none of us know. We don't actually know if any new owner would be good for Aston Villa until we've had them in charge for a period of time so we've just got to wait and see.

Doug Ellis has always promised that he will only sell to someone that has the best interests of Aston Villa Football Club in mind. Most want Ellis gone but most will also have to agree that Ellis does love Aston Villa and has the interests of the football club at heart.

All we can do is trust that whoever Ellis does eventually sell to is the right man Aston Villa. I for one would be very excited to see Randy Lerner taking control and believe that he can make Aston Villa great again.
