I'm not sure I've ever used the word swoop on this site before but if it's true, you've got to fancy Martin O'Neill will accept it. The thing is, it's a huge 'if' and it's quite possibly a load of cobblers.
Cobblers I say because I've just read it on TeamTalk and they say it's from The People. If you wanted more chance of bullshit then you've only got to look at The Mirror or one of their group newspapers.
Still, let's take a little look at this. Manchester City have the cash. They've got more than me and you and they're going to spend silly amounts despite what Mark Hughes is saying in the press.
If they were to offer £20mn. for Barry then you've got to take it - because he is leaving and he's not worth that much.
Still, this is a rumour but the other rumours today involving Manchester City are Kaka, Franck Ribery and David Villa and Mark Hughes probably knows nothing of them much like he probably thinks he'll be starting next season as their manager.

Sounds like bullshit, doubt he would want to go there. But if he did want to go, for whatever reason, £20mn would be good business, not sure we would be able to replace him. He's a top player (villas best) no matter what anyone says on here. Hope he stays and signs a new deal.
ignore it, we have been linked with everyone possible, i very much doubt oneil will let a decent player go in january considering how hard it would be to replace him.
wouldnt pay too much attention to this to be perfectly honest.....I think the journalists had a couple of inches to fill in the paper and thought "who can we link city with this week"
Dont get me wrong, I think Barry is a class act and would definately benefit city with his kind of combative midfield displays, but will O'neil sanction the sale of his best player to Villa's nearest rivals in terms of breaking the top 4.
What do you smell when lazy journalism and Man city are put together ? BULLSHIT !
Funny this Barry thing has popped up as I suggested a few weeks back on a City blog that Barry would be a good buy for us. We need a bit of steel in midfield and I think he'd play well alongside Kompany. He's also British and up to premiership speed which'll be important for us considering Man City's current position. City will have a squad of superstars in the near future and I think Barry could well be a part of that. I'm not 100% convinced Barry is happy at Villa, he wants the big pay day and the chance to fulfil his football ambitions and I believe City will be able to offer him that over the next few years. Barry ? yes, go get him Bluesey !!
Hasn't Barry already committed to Villa for the rest of the season???? I don't see him going not to Manc City seeing as their still building a squad and have yet to prove that their money's not as big as their mouth! Ain't Gonna Happen
East London Villain. You sound more like a Spuds fan than Villa. We had about 1 hour in the last transfer window and signed Robinho so lets have less of the slagging please. If Barry is unsettled and wants to leave then Liverpool are the reason for that. He is a good player and would suit our team...but only if he wants to come to us. Good luck to Villa tho..hope you crash the top 4
Would like to see Barry stay the rest of the year. But 18 million pounds would be a bird in the hand and hard to resist.
He might well be off, but not in January.
Nothing against Man City, but it's a nothing team as far as a player with ambition goes. Obviously they'll be throwing around the money trying to buy anyone under the sun, but it's a far cry from that to what Barry is looking to accomplish. City are further away from the promised land than Villa are.
OOOOOH in top six are we, think we are a force all of a sudden. Villa are an average team and always will be. Man City are on a different planet these days to you guys, in fact I'd go as far to say we are probably the biggest prospect this side of Neptune. Our wealth is immense, we will buy the very very best and I cannot see the likes of Man Utd or Chelsea being able to compete with us a couple of years time from now - nevermind Villa !! Get real.

I would rather be a team built on foundation, with a honest history and building of a team over the years than one that has just inherited the world and buys a team in a course of a season.
Look at the league position at the moment, and you get real, you gready manc!

Just cos you got the money, doesn't mean decent players will want to join!! Robhinio only joined cos he thought he was going to United not City and I think he will be a Chelsea player next year!
In all fairness, I dont see why they would want him, considering they want Kaka etc, or more importantly how they are going to fit in all the players they are going to supposidly have!
Also, I think we should get Diego from Werder Bremen!
Codswallop.
With due respect to a couple of you VERY JEALOUS Villa fans, Man City financialy could probably buy Villa out thousands & thousands of times over... that is the enourmous difference between our two clubs FACT. Please do not jump on the Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool & Man U fans bandwagon claiming that we will not win anything because that is just wishful thinking. These four clubs are cacking themselves, because they know their top 4 monopoly is under threat. Fair enough Villa have had a half decent start to the season, but they haven't got a cat in hells chance of finishing top 4 (quality of squad far too small). The only reason Barry (if we go for him) may decide not to join Man City is because he wouldn't be guaranteed a regular starting place. That's the truth boys if you like it or not.

Sure the reason GB wants to leave villa is for Champions League football. He isnt going to get that at Man City next season!
