Manchester United are favourites to sign Defoe, closely followed by Liverpool and Villa

I'd prefer Keane but he'd still be a good acquisition. He's definitely a confidence player and hopefully MON could deliver that to him.

But I wouldn't be surprised if he stayed at Spurs rather than come to Villa.

we should break the bank for Defoe. His scoring record for Spurs is 1 in 2-and-a-bit. I think £12m wouldn't be too much for a player of his calibre. I just hope liverpool get Torres and Urinal Owen, and that french guy to arsenal. Thats the way its looking.

I dont think Defoe would get a starting place at Manure or Liverpool, so he'll be coming to Villa. Liverpool are on the verge of signing Torres.

Im a spurs fan and I really dont see the sense behind all this yes Mr Bent is a great striker but we have been robbed on the price and we didnt really need him we had a front 3 that scored 60 ghoals last year (ignoring that lazy clutz Mido of course) defoe would be a great signing for anyone when hes playing regulary there arent many better finishers in the game yes hes not a massivbe team player but neither was lineker and looked how many he scored!!!

if he wants to play football he should come to villa.Some players would rather sit on bench and possibly play ocassional european football not the kind of players you want. Spurs fan here - Luke, Keano has just signed a new 5 year contract. No I am fully aware that this can often stand for nothing but I believe Robbie is a genuine man and will honour that contract - sorry. And as much as love Jermain Defoe, he just isn't a Man United player...

I agree with AKA Buster, I really think Spurs got shafted by havin to pay 16m, no relegated team should be able to command such a high price! Defoe will stay at the lane at least until his contract runs down...rather than go to any second rate team... in that time he will realise that he has a future at WHL because we will use a double partner system and rotate all of our top class strikers as we develop into one of the dedliest teams in europe.Then he will sign an extension.

I can easliy see defoe at Villa. As a spurs fan I'd be disappointed but would understand it. I think bent is a slightly better player and will get more games as he will be able to work well with both Keane AND Berbs.

If the top 6 go for him, we're out of contention. But i don't see Defoe fitting in with United or Arsenal's attacking system, as Arsenal are filled with pace they'll be going for a target man and so will United. Chelsea will be too busy looking at continentally proven stars. So it's between Villa and maybe Liverpool i reckon. He'd be a great addition alongside Defoe since he has the pace and skill and Carew gives loads of flick-ons.

Barry was made captain to keep him at Villa park. He was leaving for Pompey man. Pompey! That shows exactly what Barry thinks of Villa. Had Spurs paid cash or swapped JD at the time then Barry would be at Spurs now. Situations change, JD may now be available and Barry may have a new contract etc but there's still a deal there providing both managers go for it and they would have had they this present set of circumstances last season.

We love Defoe at VP. He is top class but just doesnt get enough games at spurs as they have better strikers. I think we should pay at the most £9M for him. I dont think MON will sign many players from the PL as they are so overpriced. Barry and £2M for Defoe that is a joke. I think Barry is more important to Villa than Defoe would be. If we do that deal or even just a straight swap i will feel like we have been ripped off and are moving backwards.

defoe proven premiership striker ... got left on the bench alot last year but when he did play still managed 18 goals in all comps, which is impressive.

if we are serious about pushin forward we should compete strongly for this player, he is young, talented and simply sticks the ball in the back of the net.

a definate signing for me, we should go all out for the likes of him and SWP.

Defoe is good but not great. We need a great (world class) striker. I agree with some other comments that Moore will prove to be at least as good as Defoe, if not better! Having said that, if MON does go for him, then I'm sure Defoe will improve under his leadership.

No point saying you need to sign world class players cos it just won't happen. World class players need CL football or UEFA cup at least. For that reason Sneijder and the like won't sign for Villa. We had the same with Rosicky, he wanted CL football. If the likes of Defoe and SWP are willing to go it shows a complete lack of ambition on their part.
You guys, if you sign 5 or 6 good players like Bellamy, Defoe and NRC you have a chance of European football next season then better players will want to sign but you are years behind several clubs, Spurs included in squad quality. Compare your players by position to others and you'll see that. You don't even have a right back at the moment and only one decent centre half!! Spurs second eleven would give your lot a good game.

saying all ur players are internationals is hardly an achievement. we have got rid of j lloyd, mcann,hendrie, angel, agathe, baros etc etc and more are set to leave (davis, sutton etc) All internationals, but who cares. i wouldnt want them or that load of dross u have just mentioned as spurs 2nd team in our squad!!

well going with ur theory that internationals are class players we can have 7 centre halves not 1 as u say. Laursen international and played for AC, Mellberg internationa, ridgewell and cahill eng u21, Bouma although left back has played there for Holland, Barry - was playing 1 of 3 centre backs when orignially gotr in Eng Squad, delaney international and has played there on a number pf occassions. I am not saying i rate all these players and am sure we will sign a centre back better than all of them.

Don't get me wrong I've liked Villa since McGrath and Townsend, I just think you have a long way to go to get to where you should be. West Ham have just signed Faubert today. It seems almost every day there's a transfer and yet Villa aren't even being rumoured to be getting anybody.

My point about 1 centre half was Mellberg is a good player, Laursen is always injured. Bouma is out of his depth in PL and Delaney is well....

If you compared Villa to teams fighting for UEFA next season the only quality players Villa have are Mellberg, Barry, Petrov, Carew, Agbonlathor and Young. Hardly good enough when these days it's about squads. Fair point about internationals maybe not being that good but they were only the second string. You have to admit the Spurs first team is pretty good and getting better.

You should go for Bellamy, Defoe, Tainio, Davies, NRC, Baines, Drenthe.

Bouma is out of his depth in the PL???? WHAT? He's arguably been our most consistent player all season.

fair enough are first teaam as of first of July is to weak to challenge for uefa. However if Davis leaves which is a done deal and ridgewell may go as well that leaves us 15 players. MON is not stupid he wants both extra quality and quantity from last season. we have got rid of 6/7 players and based on this i can only think we will bring in 8ish players. It hasnt happened yet but it will. judge our first team against other teams challenging for uefa then. I dont think there will be much to pick between spurs and Villas starting line up come the start of the season. I may be proved wrong but i have faith in MON.

The reason you havent heard speculation about us over the las few days is because O'Neill has been finalising deals on the QT, the way it should be done, expect 7/8 new signings before the start of the season.
