Margairaz who?

Tuesday, 17 April 07, 11:54 AM · Comments (6)

This is the third Daily "Footballing Bible" Mirror rumour in 3 days- what a treat.

The only reason I've decided to bring this to your attention is because of the randomness of it. I always believe when you're linked to a footballer you've never heard of from a small(ish) team then there must be something behind it. It's not obvious enough to be made up.

Xavier Margairaz is a 23-year-old Swiss international midfielder who plays his club football for FC Zurich. And that's as much as I know. If you know more, let us know in the comments box.

I used to live in CH: Margairaz is a young (23/34) attacking midfielder. Plays for FC Zurich (not Grasshoppers) at the moment, but was at Xamax Neuchatel for his formative years. Xamax had to sell him to raise money for the club, and a few Bundesliga teams competed for his signature at the time. It wasn't a popular move in Neuchatel as he was regarded as the club's finest player. He broke into the Swiss national side right at the end of the World Cup qualifiers and then, I think, played a part in the group games in Germany. He has quite a good goalscoring record in the Swiss NLA - something like 1 in 4.
Swiss exports aren't common but usually do pretty well: Wicky, Senderos, Henchoz, Frei, Ziegler and Chapuisat have done well in the EPL and Bundesliga.

depens on how much we spend on him. anything over 1.5 million is too much for a nobody. However it is nice when a club picks up a nobody for small amounts of money and then turns out to be top act. Although I am not convinced, I 'll trust

He is one the most technical player in Switzerland.
He has this feeling, to do the right movemnt, right pass at the right moment.
He is not to fast, but can accelerate the game by his passes (not his run).
He work a lot on the field to defend too.
His favorite position is in the center of the midfiel, just behind the striker, but in Zurich he plays a lot on the wing and he is not really happy with that.
He is at the end of his contract. So he is free... And he love english football. He has some offers from germany, france and spain. For surem he won't be in France and probably not in germany. He was pretty close last year to sign with Francfurt but finally said no. It's beetween AVFC and Spain probably...
