According to the bible of football gossip, the Sunday Mirror, Mark Delaney is off to join former Welsh manager Mark Hughes at Blackburn this summer.
First off, this isn't the first time this has move has been suggested and second it's actually believable.
We all know Delaney is asking for a big last pay day and we all know he's unlikely to get it while Doug as at the helm because he doesn't like taking risks. With Delaney it is a risk because you don't really expect him to be fit for a season.
Granted, you can't ever be sure you're going to have a player fit for a season but I see what Doug is thinking by not extending his stay - maybe a compromise deal could be struck where we extend his contract for another 12 months and he's got a guarantee of another extension based on number of performances and/or availability to play?
Okay, he won't go for that but at least if it was offered it would be fair, considering the wages these players are on and would also test his desire to play and win things with Aston Villa and not just for the money.
So, if he isn't offered the last bumper pay day we can all pretty much rest assured he will be joining the Welsh revolution at Blackburn but if he's going to leave purely for the cash is he the type of player we want playing for Aston Villa?
