Martin O'Neill has entered the debate on renaming Villa Park and by golly, he's hit the nail on the head again when he said 'I don't think too many Villa fans would be wildly in favour'.
While Villa Park will always be Villa Park for me regardless if we find a sponsor for it, sentiments echoed by Mr O'Neill, I'm not adverse to the potential windfall, if the right partner could be found and terms could be agreed.
"This is an English football club steeped in history and tradition, and while everybody needs to move forward into a more progressive future, it shouldn't mean that you don't marry some of those attributes to tradition." Mr O'Neill said.
"Villa Park is Villa Park, and for as long as I'm alive, Villa Park will always be Villa Park."I'm always rather sceptical about having football club grounds renamed if it is only for a sponsorship deal and then in 10 years, it gets changed again.
"I don't think too many Villa fans would be wildly in favour, and I certainly wouldn't want to see it renamed."
While I agree with everything the manager has said and can't imagine a day when I won't agree with him the lure of a huge amount of cash for someone adding their name to Villa Park is appealing.
While saying that I also have every confidence that Mr O'Neill, given three or four seasons, can build a successful team at Villa Park and maybe the funding that adding a name to the stadium isn't necessarily needed.
It's sure to be something that is debated for a long time to come and it's worth noting what Mr O'Neill said about not wanting it renamed and that it would always be Villa Park to him.
