Martin O'Neill shows interest in Mariusz Lewandowski and Martin Stranzl, apparently

Thursday, 26 June 08, 02:08 AM · Comments (44)

For the first time in ages I read to the end of a Birmingham Mail article on their website and I'm glad I did because they're reporting that we've shown interest in these two players.

Now, knowing that you know I don't watch much Ukrainian and Russian football I'm not going to pretend to know that much about these two so I'll be asking for some help.

What I can tell you is this; Mariusz Lewandowski is a 29 year old defender playing for Shakhtar Donetsk in the Ukrainian league. His Wikipedia page says; he also plays in defensive midfield where his stamina, strength and aerial ability come to good use.

Now, Martin Stranzl is a 28 year old Austrian, currently playing for Spartak Moscow and he's also a defender. Apart from what you can get on his Wikipedia page, you've also got his personal site - which is actually quite nice, that he's taken the time to spend a few quid on this.

That's it for this morning, I'm going for some breakfast and a big cup of coffee. If anyone knows anything about these two add it below because apart from the Sidwell, Robinson and Bentley rumours there isn't much new getting much exposure today.

I don't think, that Lewandowski can succeed in EPL. I hope I'm wrong, because I want to see someone from Poland, who can play regularly, and maybe score one or two goals in England. Lewandowski can play well but EPL is, I think, too big for him. Scottish Premier League, or Championship, that's his level.

;D if you think that stranzl fancy himself than have a look on Tim Wieses homepage (Werder Bremens keeper) www.tim-wiese.de and watch his pictures under "Tim privat".
So go on www.tim-wiese.de -> than click "Bilder" at the top -> and after that click "Tim Privat" :D

Up the Villa

I'm beginning to feel that we won't see any signings before the Intertoto matches. At least the Andy Johnson rumours have stopped.

Going back to the Stranzl site. Have you seen the pictures of his wife? She doesn't look like your usual hotty, eg Crouch's ex. She might be in real life but I bet he picked the worst pictures of her to make himself look good.

As for signing him? If MON want's him, there must be something about him.

Trust in MON

I see Dica has just gone to Catania - So another missed !!! Its amazing that nobody has come yet. With a few weeks to go until business starts again. I really think MON has already left it to late. I agree with the person who said get off the TV and do your job. However if we sign 3 /4 in one day I'll eat my hat right in front of MON

Just watched a ten minute Match of the Day unplugged interview by Mark Bright.
MON is surely a fascinating character and the wry smile and glint in his eye endear him to most people, of that i'm sure.

Brighty asked MON who his outstanding player of Euro 2008 has been and he replied... David Villa ! Later on in the interview he intimates that it would be fantastic (rubbing his hands) if he could sign David Villa and not just for the shirt sales !

Mon regards Arshevin highly and said that £8, 10, 12, 14 million would be reasonable for his services. Mon added that Hiddink is no fool and that Arshevin would brighten up proceedings in the EPL.

MON said that in general terms, he'd prefer not to buy players based on a tournament, rather seeing them perform at club level first. However, he said that he has made exceptions when he was at Celtic that have worked out for him.

Brighty asked him outright if he would be signing anyone from Euro 08 and MON replied that he would be giving it serious consideration ! Brighty then said "mmm....would you like to say who?" and MON asked "what would be the point?"

Read into that lot what you will, but bear in mind it's only my interpretation of what was said and i don't quite get it myself yet.
Here's the link anyway...enjoy

MON and his coded talk..and coded body language..and assesment of players..and price negotiations..and second look at the player..and more price negotiations..and coded interviews..and "cheeky chirpy Irish humour making you forget all about that right back slot"..and the reassuring he's "always in touch with Lerner and has funds"..more coded talk..some BBC work..a quick holiday to Malaga..a pat on the back for the Acorn deal..viewing the Intertoto opponent..planning pre-season..look at some players..more coded interviews...oh shit, it's the 1st of September and we haven't signed anyone!

But I hear NRC is pretty good at right back now that Salifou can try central midfield..

I see Spurs have agreed a fee for Gomes, i think he's a great goalkeeper, and the question is WHY didnt we go for him?? As i've said before we sign reject players and havent got any balls to sign first team players which clubs would be unwilling to let go for a huge fee

MON can be trusted to do the right thing this transfer window. He is not only one of the best managers - he is very ambitious. He wants a squad to compete with the top 4 more than anyone and knows how to build it. I don't know much about Spurs and their finances but unless their pockets are really deep they will need quick success to fund their purchases or they'll have money problems.

MON / Lerner are the best combination in the league, but no one can buy instant success. I can't wait until the whingers on this site are slagging him off for not making the purchase we needed to clinch 2nd place.

No effin wer so lets not do the same and lets not spend money on crap like them
