Martin O'Neill would love to get his hands on Joe Hart, apparently

Thursday, 29 May 08, 02:09 AM · Comments (34)

Friend of the site, Dave Armitage, thinks Martin O'Neill 'would love' to get his hands on Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart.

Now, he fits the bill; he's young, English and is definitely a bright prospect. Add to the mix that Dave Armitage, has been known on occasion to get things spot on, then you've got to fancy there could be some truth to this.

Also, according to Football Transfer League, who monitor football rumours, the Daily Star have an accuracy rate of 21.54%. Not such a bad number; one in five.

But it is just speculation and as such, until the club tell us something it will remain in the vault of rumours doing the rounds.

One thing is for sure, with matches coming up in the not so distant future, things are going to have to happen fairly soon. They have too!

I for one would welcome this signing. A great young keeper already better than Carson and younger. I also think a permanent signing would be better than loaning another keeper for a year. Its been a few years since we had two quality keepers fighting for the Nr 1 jersey remember the Spinky Bosnich battle.....Class. Thats the type of competitiveness we need back down villa park so Jussi from Bolton and Joe Hart please Messiah!!!!!

Up the Villa.

A friend indeed . . . you want to know a real bit of 'inside' info? Just over two years ago I was down at Wast Hills with Steve Bruce(who is a top bloke) and asked him if he'd taken a look at a young kid playing for Shrewsbury. Turned out that they weren't in the market for a keeper as it happened. Saw Brucie the other week and gently reminded him that he wouldn't get Hart for £600,000 now! He was man enough to agree!!! Keep up the good work. Dave

I completley agree with NorthStandHolteEnder.

He is younger than Carson, has more potential than Carson, has better England credentials than Carson

I think signing Joe Hart would be a cracking bit of business!

Damian, I do not see the point in keeping listing every day the transfer rumours we are linked with. We can sheck all that on Nows Now. Unless it's the likes fo Ronaldo, Henry, Bentley etc, etc then the opionion is split. Even when we all agree that the rumoured signing is class and agree it would be a good signing it's 50/50 if they are realistic signings and that Villa are in dreamland if they can sign such big names. Can we stop posting rumours about transfers, it's a load of old cobblers and just leads to divisive debate. Let's get some quality articles instead of the tittle tattle. At the end of the day, it ain't gunna change nowt! MON makes the decisions, not us, so just chill out and look forward to the stat of the Tin Pot Cup. UTV.

So Joe Hart decides to leave City. He signs for Villa ahead of Arsenal, Tottenham, Everton, Newcastle, Blackburn. Why?

Nicky, because we're a growing progressive club. We finished above all of those clubs bar Everton (3 points behind) and Arsenal.

Both won nothing too!

You see my point. Within minutes of my post you are all arguing over a player! What's wrong with you all. We're all Villans. Get up, get to work, enjoy your day and stop worrying. You have no control over the signings. Let's look at positives instead. Anyone want to debate the quality of the Chicken Tikka pies at Villa Park? UTV

andyarkitekt

its a blog and i'm bloggin on the fact that dave armitage is saying we're after him. many people come to this site for the rumours and while you might not like it - you dont have to comment on it and the title of the post pretty much gives it away that is is a rumour - so you dont even have to click on it

it's also about having a reference point. if it does happen, we can reference the fact that dave armitage was right - if it doesn't we can reference that he wasn't - if joe hart turns out to be awful we can reference opinion - if he turns out to be the best keeper ever ( ;) ) we can also reference it and see what peopel thought

the site, while a blog, is also a very quickly growing community and it's nice to have this banter. i think anyway

Luke, you're in Dreamland. Last year Snjeider and Van der Vaart, you got NRC and Harewood. As soon as any of the best players become available they'll be snapped up by other clubs. Look at what MON has bought since he arrived. Young has been the best of bad lot and he wanted to stay in London and join Spurs but they wouldn't pay the money. Davies too has been ok but the rest have hardly set the world alight.

thats it....that's what I'm talking about...let's blog about something better than stupid rumours. We are now talking about 'is it worth blogging about rumour?' Damian. Don't get me wrong I love the site, even better when the refreshing a page issues are sorted (hey maybe we should discuss that as a blog topic?) I click on the titles and skim past the 'oh he's shite or not good enough for us' rubbish and in between all the mindless 'he's not good enough' there's little gems from the likes of Taglor etc. Some good constructive stuff. Such as now, we have started to discuss something other than an overpaid individual. What do people think about topics such as...Long term club strategy, what about a part of this site (avfcblog) to help those that live far away to connect with others to share lifts to VP (especially as cost of fuel is stupid). Anyone want to share lifts from South Yorkshire area to Villa Park...some good gritty topics that don't involve personalities, such as footballers, managers, owners....Only my thoughts. How do I start such a blog topic..I'm not that computer literate! UTV

Ok yes it's a blog, and it's a rumour etc etc.. I'm happy for it to be posted. I'm happy for it to be discussed. Lets be honets though - it's not going to happen. Why would City sell? It's not like they need the money. and it's not like we're a bigger club than them, with cl football...

I do agree he's an exciting prospect, but it really is early days for him, and he would still be a 'gamble' in my book.

Carson for £5-6 million would be a lot lot more realistic.

brett Wrote: | 17.00BST | May 29, 2008

we are big enough to sign him and man city isnt exactly on solid footing at the moment

plus another potential plus point, isnt joe hart from shropshire? (fairly) local lad

hes a good player but still needs some coaching IMO, gets nutmegged far too often

Abz
Abz Wrote: | 17.18BST | May 29, 2008

He is a good 'keeper I agree but for £8 million, I'd like to see us going for Artur Boruc. He is a top class keeper and he maybe looking for a move to the Premiership sooner rather than later. Or failing that, Jaaskaleinien would be a great bit of business for a couple of seasons.

PaulE Wrote: | 18.39BST | May 29, 2008

I like the transfer rumours talk. Quite often, Damian gets information from certain sources that we wouldn't normally get (even with newsnow), and he's often very good at qualifying a rumour. It helps differentiate between the realistic and the unrealistic. It's one of the main reasons I visit this site daily.

I am obviously getting really frustrated! I see the posts discussing 'rumours' and it never gets us any further. I know that's not the point of a blog! However it cheeses me off when we get linked with all these names, both good and bad and they are a load of tabloid crap. Like all of you, I want to see a quality signing, but this connecting the villa with certain names and nothing happening is doing my head in. For gods sake MON, just sign a decent player to calm my nerves!!! I think I'll go have lie down and have a nice cuppa tea. Anyone near Sheffield want to share rides to Villa Park next season?

Our boards are rife with ITK claiming he's already signed for us (Spurs), along with Modric, Bostock and quite likely Dos Santos and Capel, I'd say the wheeling and dealing's begun.

BTW looking at the latest Deloitte rich-list and attatched analysis I'm really surprised that Villa, a club I consider the same size as us, with a larger ground, frugal/sensible transfer policy etc turnover far less than (less than half as much) as we do, are in far greater debt and have no where near the profits we make (in fact you make a loss), any idea what that's about? A hang-over from the Ellis days?

Anyway, apologies from coming on your blog, feel free to ignore...
