Villa completed their first double over Birmingham City for 23 years today, hammering a nail into their Premiership coffin in the process.
A nervy affair, Villa could've easily fallen victim to the presence of Sutton and Heskey, but Cahill and Ridgewell held our defence firmly under periods of tight pressure from the Bluenoses.
And Cahill capped a fine performance with one of the goals of the season, a superb scissor-kick volley over Bluenose 'keeper Taylor. I think I'm gonna struggle to see a striker score a goal of that quality this season.
Our football wasn't great, like much of the season, but the youngsters did well and some of the much needed passion was displayed by some of the more senior players.
James Milner's return was probably not a coincidence with the fact we managed to score 3 goals, having only score 2 in the previous 6 games that he was out injured.
Again his speed and trickery caused many a problem down the right hand wing.
It was Milner who set up the cross for Baros' goal and assisted the third goal.
Baros probably could've scored more if he wasn't either diving or falling over too easily, but I think special praise should be rewarded to Cahill for a quality performance and a stunning strike. One I recall Sky replaying at least 10 times! In fact, they said it was a goal you could never stop replaying!
Not a pretty game, but it's the result that counts and modern history was made today against the Bluenoses from Small Heath.
Up the Villa!
