First things first and you've got to feel positive about this Saturday. However, feeling too positive has got me into trouble in the past, so I'm taking my positive optimism a little slowly this week as this match has the potential to cause an upset.
On paper we should stroll this and on the evidence of watching the Stoke highlights against Bolton, we really have nothing to fear, but the atmosphere is going to be very tense and the home support will get behind their team.
I haven't publicly predicted who I think will go down this season and while I'd like Stoke to stay up, I actually fancy, of the three clubs that came up, that Hull might and while Stoke may have a good run and pick up a few points, I think they're going to struggle.
But, this is one of their biggest games of the season and because of that I'm not going to predict a huge victory, rather a professional victory, taking into consideration the environment and importance of this match.
In my season preview, I predicted a more professional approach, especially now that we seem to have almost all the positions covered and while I don't expect us to make a right winger/midfielder signing in time for this match on Saturday, I do expect us to play like we did last weekend and create a number of chances.
Again, using evidence from last weekend, we're going to take more of those chances and because of that, I can predict nothing other than three points for us.
It's going to be a professional performance, with a very purposeful approach. Stoke will battle but overall, I think our quality and team spirit will ultimately be what wins the match for us.
We will also be doing the live text updates, much like we did last Sunday for the match against Manchester City, so if you got involved, get involved again and if you didn't have a look at what we did and if you're unable to make it to the match and you're sitting at home in front of your computer, you're more than welcome to join in, from about 2.30pm on Saturday.

2-0 Villa. Gabby and Young. Let's start on a good run before we hit those Scousers, they with Manure seem to have a pyschological edge over us, lets hope we can shift it. We done well agfainst Chelski last year, let's start competing with the top ones and more importantly put the smaller clubs away

Stoke 1-4 Villa
McVilla
I think thats what we're going to see this season - more professional - which in turn will mean better results all round.
TT77
That would be wonderful ...
I am cautious too, 0-6 TO VILLA!
2-1 to stoke
Let's sing Ashley's new song for him - as i read elsewhere this morning, it's about time he had one:
He'll be skipping down the left wing when he comes
He'll be skipping down the right wing when he comes
He'll be splittin' through the middle, with every special dribble
We call him ASHLEY YOUNG, Here he comes!
Dont think it will be a walk in the park by any means but im going for 3.1 with gabby, carew and Freidel with a cheeky header ;)
thats the spirit chrisodon >:(
always difficult going away to a newly promoted club, see hull last week! O'Neill himself gave the ever professional interview and didnt write them off but did say we could be confident in beating them...
I think a comfortable Villa 2-0 win is on the cards tho, possible 2-1 but wouldn't be as close as the score would seem to suggest.
3 Nil to the Villa. Stoke looked very poor at defending high balls into the box last weekend againest bolton and lets face it there is nobdy better in the premier league from set pieces then us so hopefully Laursen and Carew will have a field day.
3 points...who cares what the score is.....However a debut (another Villa debut) goal for Milner!
I think we will totally out class them, they will have a go but our pace will undo them. Young to score the first carew the second 2-0 villa (UTV)
If we go on last week's game this should be about 5-6 goals to Villa and 0-1 to Stoke, but things don't always go that way!
Any Stoke fans out there who'd like to give us their opinion?
I agree, this match could be harder than last weeks results make it seem and is a hard one to judge.
Stoke are playing thier first home premier league match and i expect them to work very hard when not in possession.I hope they try to take the game to us.I feel that if they come and attack us we will punnish them on the counter with our pace.
I was very impressed with A.Young last week and if he continues to run into space much like he did last week, he can tear stoke apart.I think its really important we get more quality on the right-hand side so Young can continue this.
I felt Man City's second goal last week was a bit sloppy at the weekend and it'll be interesting to see if our back four have gelled a bit more after their 90 minutes together.
I would be very pleased with a clean sheet and Gabby on the scoresheet.
2-0 to Villa
1-1 draw :(
villa scorer: Laursen
stoke scorer: kitson
bore draw i reckon :(
4-0 villa :D lausen x2 , carew and gabby.
Outclass em
0-3 Villa
VIlla 2 - Stoke 0
I think Stoke will come out hard early - but true class will take over and Villa will run over the top.
Barry and Young to score.
If we are to be considered as a potential top 4 team then, these games are the ones you look out for. So this year i would hope for a game similar to the drubbing of Derby, but as you said earlier, this has the potential to be an upset and our loss to sunderland last season was typical of the lack of ability to take the next step.
Lets hope you are right and Villa perform professionally, indicating that growth.
In view of this - Match prediction 5 - 0 (to villa of course)
Gabby 1, Carew 1, Barry 1, Laursen 1. Kitson 1
Back to reality for us Villa fans. Stoke to win one nil, Gareth Barry to miss a penalty and Gabby to be taken off with a serious injury
why dont my comments shgow up some times n its pointless askin cus i can only see 14 even tho there are 20 >:( :'( :(
Fully agree with your prediction Damian it will be difficult, with home support,1st game at home but should be professional enough to overcome all that.
This is the sort of game we need to win to set us up nicely for FH and then go and take the scouser's apart.
Thanks for continuing your live updates, cracking idea,i am working on Saturday,so be good to read your comments rather than the BBC slow website.

i work with a stoke fan and he gave me the draw, do you think thats the best tenner this season. ;)
it will be hard but our confidence will come through if we get 2 earlyish goals i cant see them stopping.
The first 20 minutes will tell the tale. As good as the Villa have been at scoring away from home, an early goal for the Potters would be a nightmare. I will go for the same result Stoke got last week.
Stoke 1, Aston Villa 3
Goals: Carew, Agbonlahor, Fuller, Barry.
Cmon the Villa!
us to win 3-0
gabbi hatrick.
I agree with cockneyvillan.. judging on the Bolton game Stoke are poor and will be beaten well by Villa.
It could quite easily be 0-6 we are flying going into this.
im not to sure about this...... hope we consentrate........ as i think if Stoke pull up their socks as its there first home game then we might be in trouble...... even if they watch the last game they must know all they have to do is shut down Young and Barry as we are too dependant on the left side!
Just popped in to see what u villains are plotting for saturday, must say us potters are filled with trepidation. High hopes for this match, but even bigger fears!!! The general consensus i feel is that we haven't strengthened sufficiently to be able to cope with the better sides in the premiership yet, and i guess you fall into that category, so its going to be a case of hoping for a cup tie atmosphere, forget who we are playing and hope for the best. Reality is we may in for a caning, but the hope is we can pull off a miracle...Lol
Expect a well organised and passionate display from stoke, expect danger from set pieces, expect us to try and disrupt your way of play. If you can overcome those things your quality will win the day, otherwise we may just sneak something out of this game.. A local derby infact, expect an atmosphere to suit..
Prediction, either 0-6 to villa or 1-0 to stoke, no middle ground!!!
See you guys tomorrow
as long as we keep a clean sheet il be happy with any victory. lets get tight!
Nice one BLOKEINSTOKE it's a refreshing change to have someone from the opposition come on our blog without trying to wind everyone up. I hope you stay up.
Aye up! Just thought I'd be the first Stoke fan to comment on this match after the game.
I don't really need to say anything here do I?
