Match Prediction: Manchester United at the Trafford Bowl

Friday, 28 March 08, 09:40 AM · Comments (32)

I'm on holiday today, away from the normal toil of day to day life, but I couldn't not post my prediction, as I've done it before every match now for nearly three seasons.

This one is also a difficult one to write because I don't think I've predicted a defeat all season, but I just can't see the players doing it tomorrow. In fact, I think we'll get spanked.

We'll get spanked, mostly because on recent performances I can't see how we can compete with Manchester United. I have no doubt that we'll run more than them, chase every ball and if results were based on effort we'd win hands down, but it isn't.

But Martin O'Neill has a few things going on at the moment, not least the search for quite a few players to join in the summer, but almost the smallest squad in the league that only appear to know how to hit the ball long or lose possession with mindless balls to nowhere or empty space.

There is a definite need of some real quality at Villa Park for next season in almost all departments and because we're visiting a Manchester United team on the brink of yet another league title, I just can not see us pulling a white rabbit out of the hat.

So, for the first time in a long time, I'm going into the weekend as I go into every season; knowing we're not going to win and, you know what, it's actually quite a depressing thought.

I will say this; there is every chance we go to Old Trafford and play with one up front, or at least I hope we do because I think we're better set up for one up front with two wingers and three in midfield, battle for everything and sneak something.

It's just that while everything in football is, quite literally possible, I think there is more chance of me getting a call from Randy Lerner with the offer of £25k a week over three years.

In fact I'm now so depressed at the thought of getting spanked I could even go so far and predict what we're going to be told after the match by Martin O'Neill and some of the players, but I won't.

I won't because I'm hoping to be proven wrong and if I am and we play some scintillating stuff, I might just go out on Saturday night and not have a beer to celebrate, instead of my usual 'get steaming drunk and not remember anything in the morning' routing when we win.

I'd love to be proven wrong, but can anyone honestly say they think we're going to win?

I'd love you to be wrong but I think we're going to get beat at least 2-0, if not 3 or 4.

In my mind, we don't have a game this weekend. I almost prefer it that way.

I just cannot see us winning. If we can't beat Sunderland at home how on earth are we going to get a result against Man u away? It would be nice to think that we always perform better against the bigger teams but I think we have been over exposed by the lack of depth in the squad. I really do hope the biys prove me wrong.

3 - 1 to Utd. :'(

anyone elese starting to think this blip isnt down to small tired squad or poor oneil tactics? its simply down to one of those wonderous mysteries of football?

also known as the utter shite that is zat knight, i can see him dropping at least 2 more of tight marking specials in a 3-0 villa loss

I don't know what's wrong with me but i just have this feeling we're gonna do something special tomorrow and turn united over... I've not once had the feeling villa would beat united when all the omens were there that we might do, but on this occasion despite on paper and form it looking like we'll get spanked, i think we might just win.

Not a chance, 2-0 to United. As for the poor form shown by Villa recently, it's not down to poor form or wonderous misteries, it is down to a squad simply not good enough, to lack of spending ambition/being over cautious on the transfer market. Simple, really.

I ain't gonna guess the score I have sorta guessed the result, but I predict a Villa sending off and a united penalty. Oh also if by some miracle the scores are level late on, a late united winner.

A little research reveals that we have not beaten Man U in 22 league games at Old Trafford , and the last time was a 2-1 win in 1983, with 2 goals from Peter Withe.

The BBC tells us that "Villa have lost more Premier League games against the Red Devils than any other club (22). "

Makes for depressing reading doesn't it? Like everyone is predicting, we'll get spanked! Ronaldo will no doubt be increasing his already ridiculous tally for the season.

I think Rooney will score one, since he seems to score against us no matter how he is playing. And Ronaldo will probably score two others, one on a free kick that Carson couldn't touch even if he was in the right position. But I think we'll rally after and grab the Intertoto spot. That's my prediction.

I believe in the tooth fairy, elves, Santa Claus, even my lucky six numbers in the lotto. But a Villa win tomorrow? Why not? It's only a little less likely than the above. Oh, and the sun will rise in the west, and the moon is made of cheese as we all know! :D

I hope we have the sparkle like we did against Arsenal but Man Utd will sense the fear and they are performing like the world class team they are currently.

I'll be interested to see how we handle the match, a draw or win would be an amazing confidence boost.

Must keep Rooney and that tuga boy ronaldo away.

I cant see anything other than a United win myself. As many others have said, United are on top form and we are at rock bottom.

If we at least put in a good performance I will be happy but I cant even see that happening. We, as others have said will most probably get hammered by United and everyone will feel shitty tomrrow night.

The team is tired, but I really hope they can all just give a final push. if im honest I wouldnt mind in MON rested some of our key players tomrrow. It isnt a match anyone expects to win and so we may aswell concentrate on getting points from elsewhere. I know thats not the right attitude but I think it would be worth it.

United 4-1

Fellas, Fellas, Fellas,
This is our time, we are not playing well because we were lazy against the medium skilled teams.
Now I know you all know that we play better against top teams, the fact is the boys think they are better than they are, so they don't play as good as they can against sunderland and portsmouth but against the big 4 they do play as good as they can.
This is vital.
It is time we beat those feckers and now is a good a time as any.
MON willhave the boot up the lads and MU will be resting 1 or 2, but not ronaldo!!

I however have put $100 on villa to win at 11-1
Cheers

Please take Carson out of the team, for his own sake. Either way we will loose, but with Carson in goal it could be very heavy. With Carson 4-0 Utd, with Taylor 2-0 Utd. We def won't score. Last two goals an og and a pen!!!

I agree with most people and just can't see us getting anything, although if we do get a hammering I have got ronaldo & rooney in my dream team. Let's hope if we do get beat by utd that there neighbours are also celebrating a win as well at the sty.

I think we'll get beat by Man U 3-0 ( see that nanwasafan, thrown them off the scent so the odds stay good)

I am however putting a fiver on us at 9-1 in the hope we pull off the result of the season.

(p.s. Nanwasafan, do we get better odds if we specify second half)

Don't think a win is in the offing, but I don't think Villa's poor form is due to fatigue. They've simply been playing down to the competition, and there's a lack of belief in the players. Europe has been there for the taking, and the lads have shrunk back from it instead of grabbing it.
