Match Prediction: Portsmouth

Friday, 20 April 07, 07:53 AM · Comments (6)

If results go our way we could be back up to tenth by Sunday evening and if results go the way they have recently, I expect that to be the case.

Portsmouth beat United and then a few days later got beaten at Watford. They've had a good season and will be hoping to finish strongly to secure European football for next season but Villa are finishing strong and I think ultimately we'll be wanting it more.

Football to one side for a moment, if Juan Pablo Angel hasn't already left I'm hoping we get to see him at Villa Park for a send off this weekend. He deserves it and I think it would be a great gesture from Villa Park. Now back to football.

As I've said Portsmouth are in the hunt for European football and because of this they shouldn't be taken lightly. They've got a team capable of creating chances and taking them. The problem is they don't like scoring away from home.

the bigger concern if we look at statistics is that we've scored as many at home as they've scored away all season so there is every possibility that the game could end up all square; but you know my money isn't going on that result.

Ultimately it comes down to form and I've convinced myself Villa are the team to back. I'm adding them to my weekend bet on United, Liverpool, Bolton and Charlton.

John Carew and Patrik Berger should be available for selection but after the team have done so well recently we can't be guaranteed that the manager will start with them.

Smiler McCann is also available after missing two games with a suspension but if he picks him over Gardner or Petrov I'd be very surprised. I wouldn't be surprised is Smiler has played his last game for Villa but saying that I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a two year extension to his contract in the summer.

It comes down to what the manager thinks is best and ultimately whatever he thinks is best is good enough for me. Three points on Sunday and a move up to tenth.

Nothing less than a POMPEY win in front of the SKY cameras

I'm predicting a very boring nill niller!

Pompey are good enough to keep us out, but I do worry about Matthew Taylor. Everyone knows by now that he will shoot from anywhere, everyone also knows our defence is one to back off when players run at them and from recent displays, I can't help but feel he is gonna crack one for Sorenson to drop at Kanu's feet!

I don't like to be negative though, so scrap my earlier prediction, I'm going for a 3-0 Villa win :)

Can't see anything but a Villa win here with the Confidence flowing threw the team at the moment. I have had my doubt's about Gabby's ability this season, passing the ball back instead of running at defenders & not making runs down the wing but fair play to the lad he has proved me very wrong and is looking like a real force now!! (mind you his form/confidence has ran along par the form/confidence of the team)

Going for a 2-0 home win!!

I and a good majority of villa supporters (Apart from the moaning gets who sit behind me)are with you Damian on the Angel issue. Lets hope common sense prevails and he is given the send off he deserves.

There's only Juan Pablo Ángel

I'm more worried about David James getting his clean sheet against us for his record....what odds would you get on that?
