Match Prediction: Travelling to the sty

Wednesday, 07 November 07, 03:17 AM · Comments (38)

Okay, I really should apologise before I go any further, I wrote the title to this piece a few weeks ago and maybe I used the wrong choice of words, but from where I come from we use it all the time.

Anyway, to the match this Sunday and before I go into detail, did you know it's possible that Birmingham City could be sitting in the bottom three come 4.45pm on Sunday if results go our way. Isn't that just the icing on the cake?

Actually the icing on the cake for me would be to see us play them off the park with some decent football and for us to not rely on workmanlike performances, but like I've said for a long time, it's actually about the end result at the moment - the other stuff will come.

Because of that, my prediction is a simple one for this game; we'll win this and go home with three points, if for no other reason than we have the better manager at getting his players up for the game.

I'm not going any further with my prediction this week as we don't need the details on this game; we all know it's about local pride. I may also have annoyed a few with the title.

I will say, before I go, it's actually quite nice to have them back in the league and even though we all know, some of them also, that it's not going to be for very long, it was a fixture I looked out for at the start of the season.

If you're lucky enough to have a ticket sing loud and sing proud - I have no doubt you'll be making your voices heard.

Love it, and let the insults fly because they'll be back in the championship next season and we won't have them there to point and laugh at. Anyway 2-0 to Villa.

I have to disagree with some of the comments on here. I hope we win but it will be difficult. No win away from home all season is not a record we want going into this game. I also feel that Blues are going about things the right way this year.. buying some good decent players and not overpriced hasbeens. Muamba, Kapo etc are just what they need to establish themselves and that is what they are doing. So I am going for a 1-0 to villa but a hard fought slog of a game with some nervous last ten minutes as they hoof the ball repeatedly into our penalty box. I am also betting that the Blues are here to stay for a good few years so Young & Gabby better get used to having the cr*p kicked out of them as that is exactly what Bruce will be sending his players out to do. It worked for long periods for Derby and Blues are a good way better than that shambles of a team

I hope both teams play well but i think we'll overcome them with our better attacking players, and of course, better defense.

I just feel like it's 2002 all over again and we're going into this game expecting to turn them over easily. I am very worried about Sunday as I think that we are a different side away from home, if we don't score in the first half then I think we will be coming away empty handed.

stig Wrote: | 17.15GMT | Nov 7, 2007

derby games are very very different games indeed, write blues off at your peril, they will be up for this mark my words. but i read today blues still havent sold out the sty, how embarassing is that?

Woody1000

I can't believe they haven't sold out, like David Gold said "Tickets are ONLY £45" lol

I was concerned pre Bolton about all the positivity being expressed in many different forums, I was worried and I wasn't far off the mark. I even asked for people to dispel my concerns.

However, I have no reservations or concerns for Sunday's game, we ain't gonna lose end of story.
We are superior in all aspects on and off the pitch and the pressure is on them as they are at home.

I think we'll win, but it really will be difficult. Blues will b up for this and, as someo0ne else said, no away win all season is not a record we won't going into this game. In fairness, we haven't played many games away from home but still...

This will be a very difficult first half for Villa, but if we can get through until half time on level terms I feel that we will nick it with a single goal. Possibly Laurson or Melberg. Blues are not a bad team in comparison to five or six of the others so that is worth bearing in mind.

the_flabster
the_flabster Wrote: | 02.55GMT | Nov 8, 2007

Well the thing is even if we lose we will be still 3 points ahead of them with a game in hand. Im not saying thats what i want and the bragging rights are nice but at the end of the season if we are well above them and they go down it clearly shows who are the better club. We are trying to make progress with our team and trying to get up into Europe so we should be beating teams like these but its a big occasion and anything can happen.

Im just glad to see our lads are keeping their mouth's shut and getting focused on the game.

I think we will win it but it is not in the bag as some people suggested.

I certainly will be down there singing me heart out! Not to happy about the 45 holes for the ticket, but i suppose it usually costs me more for a match and train ticket away normally. No travel expenses, and it will be worth every penny to do them sh!ts

1. We haven't won away so far this season.
2. They've been decent at home so far this season (only bad performance/result was against West Ham).
3. Without Carew we're a touch too lightweight to be going into a local derby I reckon.
4. Arguably our best player this season is struggling to be fit (Ashley Young).

I'll take a draw and be happy with that. I fear a dour 1-0 defeat.

Dizzy Mugs
Dizzy Mugs Wrote: | 15.27GMT | Nov 8, 2007

Baldy, at the moment Carew is rapidly gaining fitness. Young is also.

Baldy
Baldy Wrote: | 15.36GMT | Nov 8, 2007

re: Young and Carew - I'd feel happier if they weren't being rushed back.

Young will get clattered in first five mins by their fullback. Just to check how fit he really is. How he responds to that (and how the ref responds to that) will determine the course of the game.

taglor
taglor Wrote: | 23.44GMT | Nov 8, 2007

I can't believe you all get so wound up, you think the players really give a toss? they are from all over and just pick up their wages, it's just another game to them, it's just the fans that build it up. It's hardly world class, a bore draw i predict.

Baldy
Baldy Wrote: | 13.53GMT | Nov 9, 2007

Taglor - lot of truth in what you say. And that is exaclty what is wrong with the PL. No local prode (fortunately we're the exception in Gabby, Luke, Gardener etc). Oh for derbies like they were in the 70s. REAL committment. Tackles flying in. Blood and thunder stuff.

R'ber Baldy from the BBC 606 days, if it's the same Baldy. Quality poster, knows the game.

The past 3-4 games haven't suggested to me that Villa will win. So will go for a draw. Blues aren't that poor, players like Kapo, De Ridder & maybe Palacios or whatever his name is can do some damage.
