Match Prediction: West Brom at some ridiculous hour on Sunday

Friday, 19 September 08, 07:44 AM · Comments (40)

It's a silly time to play a football match, but it's also evidence that we're playing a lot of games, which is a good thing and long may it continue and while this is going to be our third game in a week, I think we're going to have enough.

The last time West Brom were up we beat them 2-1 at their place and we drew 0-0 at home and if that happens again this season I think most would be happy, simply because it is a local derby and you'd expect them to be well up for this, although six points should be well within our grasp.

Actually, looking at the statistics, it's about time they beat us at home. They haven't beaten us in 23 years and they've never beaten us in the Premier League. They've also haven't won back to back matches in the Premier League in 49 matches - since 2005. If they were to win, it would be their best ever start to a Premier League campaign.

Of the previous 152 matches we've won 71 and drawn  31. The other fifty matches were won by West Brom. They'll not be adding to that number this Sunday.

This match is also quite interesting for the players that could be playing.  Curtis Davies is an ex West Brom player and West Brom also have Scott Carson and Luke Moore playing for them this season. I'm not too concerned about Carson, as Martin O'Neill should know what to tell the players to do, but Luke Moore, if he plays, could be a concern - we all know he can score and he's going to want to make an impression in this game.

Anyway, to my predictions. I hope Ashley Young is fit but I doubt Carew is after he hobbled off against Spurs, but we won't know for sure I guess until we hear from the club. If Young plays he'll be a threat and most I suspect will go through him, although I wouldn't be surprised to see Reo-Coker get another goal - only because after getting two in two, I don't think I could be surprised anymore this season when it comes to him and goals.

The final prediction is that of an away win. They'll be well up for it and the atmosphere will be all for them, but again I think it comes down to quality and I think we have too much for them.

i've got a fiver on 2-0 villa........just placed after picking up my winnings on guessing last night's score.

Damien - i went with your 2-1 prediction on monday night (thank you) so this will be my hat-trick this week if it comes in and I will be a tidy £140 up for the week :)

Damo, you said...'although I wouldn't be surprised to see Reo-Coker get another goal..'

Just had £100 plus tax on Reo for first goal. You can get 28/1 for that...!

You only get 16/1 on Routledge so thinks a good deal on Reo at 28/1..?

Yep Jay, but it's only nearly I night out..If I win it's over 29 nights out spread over the year or a holiday..! Not a lot to risk in the grand scheme of things, especially with good odds and Reo having the bit between his teeth..?! :D

Guzan has got more chance of scoring than Routledge.

If you can do a whole month on £100 shopping Nndy I'll use that shop please. I do have two kids also and they bleed you dry with how much they can eat, especially when it get's like a youth club here with all the other friends they bring back..! Anyway let's get back on topic...I would not want tobe called an hypocrite! =D

Bit of a worry this one. I think he will play a half fit Carew due to importance of the game and the outragous lack of front men options. How Harewood is an EPL player is beyond me.

Again I think we will concede (first), it's how we respond is the main thing and after Spurs (Mon)and Bulgaria (Thurs) it will be difficult.

Not sure what the odds are but I would go for 1-1 with us scoring in last 20.

Yeah. I am getting a bit of a gammy feeling off this one as well. Don't think Carew will feature if he's not fit. Reckon he'll go with the lone striker like yesterdays game. Would hope for a better performance though.

I have villa down for a 1-2 win on my IKTS so i'll stick with that.

I hate myself for doing it but i did have a cheeky fiver on Spurs winning at half time, thought it might soften the blow if the worst happened!

Which it didn't so all is good! ;)

askpaul68 - Point taken, however the nature of the footballer is quite different unfortunatly. No positions vacant at your place for Harewood!!!

I'm going to absatin from prediction as I seem to put the kaibosh on us. However, I'd just like to say, isn't it grand, in a slightly smug way, to be a part of the oldest derby game in the world? Brill.

dunno where you are betting these days Andy??? I stopped paying taxes about 10 years ago on gambling when it became tax free.

25. __AA__ Wrote: | 18.09BST | Sep 19, 2008

I did it on that new Boylesport site Villa have on the OS site. I just presumed it took the tax cos I did it via internet. Cos when it said winnings would have been £2900 at 28/1 I hought it's not removed tax from winnings. I'll go back on and have a look at how much I actually paid! First bet I have put on for probably 20 years...But thought with all the banter and a feeling in my water it worth a go? That's why tax mans after me then...THey ain't getting enough from the gamblers...! Boo Hoo :\

2-1 villa i reckon the baggies will score first then we will pull it back i reckon first 10 mins we will be asleep, then after that we will be fine.

Villa don't normally win 3 games in a row? so i advise you not to bet and lose your cash its got 0-0 all over it.

I can't see them winning it but i can see them scoring first and laursen or barry getting us all square again!

0-0 or 1-1 (DRAW)

But if we do win and go out fighting i'll be very surprised, i think we should play

Harewood, Routledge, Milner, Salifou, Delfouneso all from the start, I would leave the likes of Young, Gardener, Agbonlahor, Davies on the bench and if things are looking bleak BRING THE CAVALRY ON you feelin that?
We need to get a little rotation on the go instead of injurings always playing a big part in who lines-up in the squad?
Lets save the best for last (switch it up mon) and we just might win. we are playing the baggies there's nothing special about them and i am not scared by luke moore, we should get a draw minimum??? I said that about stokey though!

DRAW-DRAW-DRAW 8)

Thanks Tonebone..Just had a look and only took £100 off me! Last time I placed a bet was Senna to win the 1988 F1 Championship, because he had a Lotus Honda with Active Ride. Needless to say he did not win. I think that 100 quid will be staying at Boyles..... ;)

There's a better chance of O'Leary getting Newcastle into Europe then there is of West Brom-Villa finishing 0-0 or 1-1. There will be lots of goals and I think the Villa reverse the Stoke scoreline. West Brom 2, Aston Villa 3 (Agbonlahor, Barry, Davies)

This game has the potential of being another STOKE, We all expect to win and because of that it is far easier to loose.

However, as i said before, if we are to be considered genuine contenders for the top 4, this is a must win game.

Match Prediction WBA 1 - 2 Villa.

3-2 Villa, The Baggies front line isn't overly bad, and isn't it fate the Luke Moore will bag one.

Carson will have a blinder and Moore will score, its always the same when ex-players play against us, Vassell has scored nearly a 1/4 of his goals for Man City against us..
I'm going for 2-1 Villa, will be a very tough game though. 20notes on Gabby first goal.
