We all knew this and this isn't having a dig at the club for telling Bill Howell before telling us and I'm not going to go over old ground about us only doing this only because we couldn't find a sponsor.
This deal with Acorns, regardless of the circumstance, will be good for the charity and ultimately it's going to be good for Aston Villa, although the focus really should be Acorns.
I referred to it as 'doing a Barca' when we first found out and I even went off and donated some cash to Acorns - something you can also do by visiting the home page and clicking on the Acorns logo or even, by clicking here.
But it is nice and I'll feel a lot easier letting my son run around with Acorns on the shirt rather than a gambling company and if it raises more awareness for a good cause, regardless of why we are doing it, it's a good thing.
Now, let's hope that we do well in Europe and we can get someone to pay us a little more than the £1mn. a season we got from 32Red.

Great move whatever the reason behind it.
Now greedy b*stard has gone it's nice that we have a chairman with class.
The reason behind it is to win fans, people will take a likeness to villa for this decision and is a very clever move. Now lets get some real talent to build on the quality we have at the moment which includes GB.
would be nice to see sky sports news give it a mention instead of repeating the same old crap every 5 minutes.
Agreed, even if the reason is long-term financial, it is nicer for people to look into 'what is acorns?' rather than 'What is 32Red.com?'
I think its a good move, its like that Scudamore fella was saying 'utilising the power of football and of the PL for good causes'
I think we'll start seeing more whip rounds on the holte end more often!
thatll improve our pr no end!
Top gesture and a great cause, shame teams like Chelsea and Man Utd haven't done the same thing, top marks to Villa I hope this encourages other teams to do the same thing.
With all the doom and gloom about the lack of transfer activity this news (although we have known it's coming for months) gives me a great positive feeling. We are all proud of being Villans, but I feel today that we are a little bit more proud of the way the club is conducting itself. I may be having the wool pulled over my eyes by the club, but I think this was a viable option from the start and not a back-up plan if we did not get a sponsor (IMO). I am part of a worldwide humanitarian organisation myself so see first hand the lucrative side of this deal not only for Acorns, but also for Villa. Everyones a winner. Well done Acorns and Villa..Respect
Great sentiment from the club!!
Acorns is just up the hill from me and i've taken old toys up there that my kids don't play with and they couldn't have been more grateful.
Its a really amazing place and deserves some much needed national publicity.
It feels good to be a Villa fan and telling people that i support them makes me pruod once more!! 8)
Right, lets sign some players..................
its an ideal business move in a world of corporate social responsibility ;)
Yeah, it's good PR. I don't think it was because Villa couldn't get a sponsor...I'm sure RL's connections via the NFL would've yielded some deals if Villa were really needing the cash. Might be the case that RL thought until Villa are in Europe, no sponsor deal is going to be a blockbuster, so why not do a good thing in the meantime.
I'll look forward to buying the new kit. Always hated that 32Red logo.
A fantsatic gesture from the club and a fantastic charity to be involved with. How do accorns benifit from the deal?is it a reverse where the club gives them money for being the sponsor or do they just benefit from the club giving them more publicity?.
With these kind of displays of genourosity, including the 5mil Randy gave to an art gallery , surely this has to show we have the money to compete.
i agree with i hate blues - surely if villa were struggling with transfer funds this would be ridiculous, so surely thats not the rason behind the lack of activity
i think its great news and it benefits everyone, we dont get nailed down to a 3 year deal and then get a bigger market share but no extra cash (ie this time next year hopefully we can attract a bigger sponsor than now)
and acorns get some publicity and also no doubt some more fundraisers at the club
Great move by having Acorns as sponsor, a local charity. This will help raise the profiles of both parties no end. I can't wait for mr new shirt. Beats crappy 32Red any day of the week!
Really did not think would happen....wonderful stuff Villa.
bill howell is mouthing of again in todays evening mail and to be honest i wish he would Feck off and to stop trying to unsettle barry. he has been writing that gareth wants to leave to play champions league football, well if gareth waited a season he will be
Really nice touch from Randy. Villa leading the way!
Anyone got any ideas about the new shirts and when they will be released?
Best decision Villa have made in 2 years.
Taglor, while I donâ€t often disagree with you (your views are mint, yes I really said that) I must disagree this time. Only in that, has Mon been there less than two years now? If so that was the first best decision in last two years Villa have made. Hail MON. Oh, and not forgetting Randy, well done to you too! UTV
I wasnt to happy about it at first but i have changed my mind
I think its a great idea anything that helps sick children is worth it i think other clubs should also do this for a season
I think tho we will have to go back to proper sponser's next season because it helps the club finacialy
Id be even more proud to wear the villa shirt now get releasing the new shirt Aston Villa
Thank the lord!! Taglor compliments. Whatever next?? Damian, I think you're being a little cynical, this is a great gesture and I am really pleased we have gone down this route. I don't expect it to run for years but we have set an example and the fact that it's a local charity is even better. This, IMO, further demonstrates that RL is not just seeing Villa as a 'cash cow' but something far more important. I also think that this kind of act will demonstrate to potential transferees that we are a special club and one which it would be nice to be associated with. The rebuilding continues....Very well done indeed. ;D
just told the missus (an american) about this and she knew all about acorns right away. she thinks it's a fantastic gesture by the club and so do i!!!
sometimes the cynicism is distasteful and unnecessary, i doubt very much that "we couldn't get a sponsor" - but hey, as ever, it's an opinion, right??
Damian, your petty vendetta against this Bill Howell is of no interest to anyone except yourself. Drop it will you?
Shanghai Villan
How have you taken from the above post that this is anything remote to having a dig at Bill Howell? It's actually, if you read it very closely me saying 'not having a dig at the club' for leaking news like this to a reporter before telling the fans. If, after you've read the above post carefully, you are going to say I have a 'vendetta' against anyone, surely it has to be the monkey media department at the club who give him the stories?
So, you've asked me a question which is of no relevance, so I'll ask you one, with a little relevance. Will you promise to read the post next time before commenting?
Cheers
Hats off to Lerner, MON and the rest!!
even if this is because we couldnt get a sponspor (which i doubt very much) i think its a great idea and shows a commitment to the community, which in the game i feel is disappearing!
i think lerner has done a terrific job since takin over and has a real connection the community which i applaud!
i agree with a lot of the comments in that having a charity on our shirt makes yu feel a lot better then having a gambling company... i am very impressed with the work done by lerner...
i agree 100% with Turbofatty i am proud to be a villa fan, more so now because lerner are making a real effort to commit to the community!
keep up the work boys!
Top Effort Randy. Good to see a team not worrying about the bottom dollar. Although with all the rumours etc about how much we have to spend maybe we needed it!! :D Does anyone have any idea bout what the shirts look like / when they will be released?? Top site damian
The reason why we have'nt got a mention on sky sports is that ACORNS is a regional charity..............not in the same league as Barcelona....who have a world wide recognised charity, nobody knows who the fcuk ACORNS are outside of brum, all they know is probably ACORN ELECTRON
vogra
why are you dissing something related to villa >:( >:([img][/img]
