Neil Ashton, the new Bill Howell or Oliver Holt?

A few years ago I used to get wound up quite easily. Actually I still do, but these days, I usually like to sit on it a few days before commenting, but I'm not today because Neil Ashton at the Daily Mail has wound me up.
He's wound me up because of his weekly column, called Ash Wednesday. Today he's saying that Gabby shouldn't be in Germany and that he shouldn't have an international career any more, after the misunderstanding over Gabby playing for the U21's last year.
Now, what does this man know about it and why should he be calling for Gabby to have no international career? Should it be the same for Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand, Ashley and Joe Cole, because if they all had a Champions League tie tonight, I'd put money on it that most of them would be fit for it.
I wouldn't normally link to garbage like this, but I am today, because I've got a feeling he'll turn into the next Bill Howell or Oliver Holt.

I'm all for opinion and love the way that we've all got one and it's mostly different even on a subject as unique as Aston Villa, but this opinion, to me anyway, is grounded on not knowing what actually happened.

lazy, pathetic journalism, end of story.
problem is noone gives a shit about some parasite who sits behind a desk writin bullshit journalism. so they vent their jealousy on someone with genuine talent because they wish they were good at something. truth is cockroaches like neil ashton are, have and always will be nobodies, and not be remembered in 5 minutes time, let alone 5 years owing to a glorious career.
simple fact - useless piece of shit trying to get headlines of slagging someone off (am i a hypocrite?) because they are not good enough to make good articles of their own back. he is a irrelevant person. i object to his existence, and having to breath the same air as him.

I've constantly seen the Daily Mail allow reporters to slate Villa in any way they can. There was an article a while back that said Mon had lost his faith in Nicky Shorey and Luke Young, and refused to play them. Except they had written that it was Ashley Young who had been dropped. Crap stories and crap journalism, thats all that comes out of the Daily Mail.
Mr Ashton by the looks of things can not be bothered to write any new stories or do the work to find them, bringing up something that happened 18 months ago is just him being lazy.

I’ve already read the piece this morning. These bozos have to fill space in a newspaper. It’s part of their job. The editor says produce something about tonite’s game and they go and do it. Because they lack insight, which only comes from wisdom, they produce crap. It’s inevitable.
Either read it and dismiss it for what it is – i.e. don’t get wound up, or don’t read it. I’ll tell you why this is important. After the Arsenal game I went, as usual, to NewsNow for Villa and it linked to several Arsenal blogs. I was surprised and impressed. There must have been 5 or 6 decent, informative and well written Gunner blogs available for supporters to read and comment upon. All we got is you. Oh, I know the Fear does his best, but for some reason it lacks something. (Does anyone else have an opinion on this?).
If you get angry it will cloud your judgement. This will affect the value of the stuff you write here. Be passionate but don’t get angry – especially with trash journalism.
And another thing – where’ve you been for three days?
Don't waste your time reading anything from the Daily Mail Damian; they're a bunch of reactionary, racist, puritans! If your a single mother, ethnic minority, immigrant, or from a working class background, then your always gonna be on the receiving end of Daily Mail rant!

Damien - if memory serves me rightly, Martin O'Neill admitted it was his fault - he came out and said it was his fault as he had a misunderstanding with Stuart Pearce. Nothing to do with Gabby.

the reason why gabby didnt go was because villa played man city a few weeks b4 the season ended and MON spoke to stuart and thought he had an understanding that gabby was tired and could do with a holiday b4 he caught up with the rest of the squad, as they had 2 weeks training before the tournamnet started. however this wasnt the case and he didnt turn up when he did kos he was in spain or wherever. it was MON's fault and he came out n took the wrap for it, its why gabby was in the next squad. Its funny how he dosnt write a story about Bentley, who took it upon hmself to say am too tired for the under 21's and said he wanted a rest as the prem is whats important

gabby is my new favourite player. i had to defend him and make note of this toseer so i don't go reading it again
on gabby for a minute - how he played against arsenal, for me anyway, was a real step up. i'm just worried that he sits back now and enjoys the adulation - much like i think he did after the man city game. now is the time for gabby to show us this week in week out and if he does, i suspect he'll be heading to south africa in 2010
When reading an article from a newspaper who's typical front page headling is, "Youths and immigrants will take all you money and kill you" or "Price of living up £250 Million" or something else to make you shit scared then its best to just ignore it.
Journalists who work for the daily mail are just failed journalists who couldnt get a job contributing to any better publications and just sit around all day writing crap to scare you or piss you off and thank god that at least their not working for the daily express!!
I have just revisited the original article, it's still there but does not upload the comments left by readers. Considering the comments above I would imagine those left on the DMail site are of a similar bent. So it appears that they love to dish out criticism to those who cannot defend themselves, but will not take it back. Oh well, it's not me would up, it's our very own ace reporter Damian.
