There really isn't much going on at the moment and when you've got to start a post with the words 'new contract for Petrov', you know you're in trouble.
Don't get me wrong, I like Petrov, but we've got six other central midfielders and for all the money he has been paid, for all the money he cost and then factor in that 29 years old - I'd not give him another two million (conservative guess) quid to potentially get another ten games good performances in two years.
Sure, we know he can be good and yes, I know it's not my money, but if we leave it much longer, the likes of Gardner and Osbourne are just going to leave if Petrov keeps getting picked over them and keeps having poor games. You watch, Petrov is going to have is best ever season in professional football now.

Moving on. It is my duty to make you aware of things happening in the world of Aston Villa there is another new site, this time offering streams to all of the games. Now I'm not sure of the legality of this or not but I did promise the guy that set it up that I'd post a link. The legality of me posting a link is, I can do it. If what he is doing is illegal or not isn't my problem and as long as the site is there then it appears everything is fine.
I've not used the service he is offering but I'll one day no doubt be stuck at an airport or find myself in a pub with WiFi but not showing the Villa game, so I will, but for now, if you're stuck somewhere and want to watch the Villa game, click here, to have a look at what you can get from them.
Right, streams to Aston Villa matches and Stiliyan Petrov on a Sunday morning. What is the world coming to? At least there is nothing about hattrick Gabby or webcam Ashely in the papers, although it would have been a little more interesting than what we ended up getting.
I'm off for a Sunday lunch and a hair of the dog!

Agreed Damo, Gardner needs competitive games in CMF to bring him on, although Drogba had a pretty shocking first two seasons before he got his act together and Stan has hit the ground running, so to speak, this season so maybe hes finally tumbled it.
Like I said, he'll have his best season now.
I like Petrov, but sometimes the strings have to be cut an how many really good games have we had for the millions we've paid him? Is it really worth it??
Give youth a chance ...
about the streams.. its not illegal to link to it (and specially not in sweden, lol). What I don't like about the site though is that it cost $$. Who on earth pays for streams that you can get for free other places?
I'm also happy for the Petrov information, I've got a feeling he is blooming up this season
thing is mon will keep picking petrov and by nowhe must relise that he is not a great favourite with the crowds at times but if he is being picked we sould get right behind theplayer when he hears the moans and groans coming off the terraces it must deflatehis morale so come on villa fans get behind all 11 players ths coul be a big seasonfor us and dont forget we got more games to play this year with uefa so i think the lkes of gardner and co willply am much bigger part this season bring on the 15th spurs will fall.
links dont appear to be working. What are the free ones?
Damien struggling with getting messages to come up on this new site is anyone else experiencing the same?
I think he's got till end of October to start putting together a series of consistent performances. If he fails I don't think he'll hold his place for long. As you say there is competition for places. We can afford his contract so don't see any reason to get rid of him.
I think he's got until the end od October toi put together a series of good performances otherwise he'll lose his place.
Villabiker, yes it has gone a bit wierd this morning.
he can perform and is a quality player as you say he needs to be alot more consistant. if he doesnt then i think he will become a squad member on a good contract.
Streaming games are illegal, but worse is that that site is charging you to watch the streams, double illegal and they will get into serious trouble when that comes back on them, i would deassociate yourselves with them immediatly.
there are plenty of sites showing our games for FREE out there, and as yet i havent missed a villa game as i have found them online!
Petrov is obviously doing a good job or MoN would be picking the likes of Gardner and Osbourne ahead of him. I think the interesting time will be when Sidwell is fully fit (next game?) and there will be REAL competition for the places. Until then I think contract talks should be put on hold. Reminds me of Berger, played out of his skin at the end of 06/07(?), got an extension to his contract then didn't feature.....
"AVFC, My Club, My Life"
anyway when sidwell is back and may b give gardner a run out petrov will b a good squad player u know if he has to come on you no he will do a job and its all about squad now not 11 players were sill building
Once the spurs games comes, we then have 7 matches in 20 days. Mark my words, all of our central midfielders will get their turn, and it will be up to them to do their bit on the day. This is why we need all our players at their best. I think if you go back to the end of the last season, Petrov since about the start of March has probably been our best performed (overall) midfielder. The guy currently deserves his spot and some respect.
This is a pride thing, the resigning of Petrov. Just cut your losses Martin, hes not as good as you thought hed be. The one thing about this resigning that disappoints me is the fact that we have a solid core of players now at Villa, and we now need to focus on adding one or two real quality talents per transfer window, i thought we would let Petrov, Knight, Routledge etc go and replace them with real talents that would immediately command first team football. So that we dont have to rely solely on Sidwell, Reo, Gabby to start all the time and also show a few different options (other than boring long ball tactics). Basically we are no longer in a postion where we need to buy or resign squad players, we just need to continually upgrade each window.
still think mon should put petrov up front with carew or gabby instead of useing him as a defensive mid...
I really want to see one of our midfielders score a few goals this season. I think sidwell is the man for the job, and it will work best with 5 in midfield and one lone striker. I'm sure the duties can be shared with big john and gabby as we have alot of games ahead and carew prob won't last the whole season with his history of injuries.
petrov gets judged too harshly. hes a good footballer, and has played well for villa rcently. i realise its taken too long, but while he is performing we should be backing him at the very least. i wouldnt be concerned about him getting a new contract, in fact, id be quite happy. its competion at the very leat.
i worry osbourne may never be good enough. i know he's young but i just dont see the quality there. gardener on the other hand could be good i feel, and hewill get chances at villa, he just has to take them when they come. we have too small a squad as it is, so players certainly will get chances if they are up to it
It transpires it's actually going to be an improved contract
I'm perplexed at that, as I fail to see it with Petrov, he's way too inconsistent for me, but I guess MON knows what he's doing.
In all honesty get him behind the front two and he will be a success. He's been out of position ever since we bought him, and this year, when he's gotten further forward he has looked dangerous, and commanding, while still getting his fair share of defensive work done. He's been through a fair bit ever since we got him, resigning the national captaincy, then being brought back into the squad, and this i think similar to what GB is going through now made his performances patchy. Consider though that you don't outshine Nakamura at a big european club,(Champions League quality) like Celtic without having a lot of class. I honestly think the stability he's starting to be rewarded with will be fruitful very soon. Stan is the Man! Have faith, UTV
By the way Damian, Dean Ashton for 18mil is everywhere again now that Curbs has been given the boot. Maybe worth a mention?
Petrov only just about deserves a new contract IMO
where are the proper free!!!!!!!!! footy streams?
Petrov dosent deserve a new dealdeal, but hes still a great player to have!

tell us more OTV, where are these sights?
we've posted a few in the forums highlander go have a browse around
Damian, you always crap on about our youngsters getting a game, moore Davis, cahill, ridgewell now gardiner and osbourne but they are obviously not good enough. what has moore, cahill, ridgewell and davis done since they left, nothing thats what.
And, how has gardiner looked when he has played, ok but nothing that makes me think that he should be given an extended run in the side. MON sees them in training every day, he knows how good these players are and has been right in all his decisions regarding youngsters at our club. they don't deserve a game just because they are young, and doing well in the reserves.
unfortunatly for them, we couldn't loan them out last season because we didn't have enough players, maybe this season they can go down to the championship and have a go and if they do well there they might be in with a better chence when they get back, but at the moment there is no way they should be in the team over the players that are ahead of them no matter how good it feels to see youngsters come through the ranks.
Petrov deserves a new deal so long as he keeps getting into the team, if we sign someone else next season that is better than him he might not get as much of a run and that is fine. He hasn't complained about being dropped yet so i for one don't mind him at the club at all.
Cheers for posting about the site damian!
Man to your word!
The site is better than the likes of justin.tv etc, as its all private and authenticated and is streamed from an offshore location.
They are 500kbs winamp h264 streams at 25fps and are as good as the TV to be fair!
Pop bye and have a look, cheers!
petrov is a waste of money, but a MON favourite, so he will prob get a new deal and continue to play. just like reo coker, who will even be played out of position ie rightback, just to stay on the field
this is the one problem with MON and can cost games
I like Petrov a lot, I guess everyone has bad games. I would like to see Gardener playing more though.
Towards the end of last season Petrov was amazing lets hope that form continues.
People give Petrov stick just because its him. for the last 3rd of last season and the start of this bar maybe Ashley Young he has been our best player. And that is despite being played out of position.
I dont think Petrov has deserved his new contract to be fair!! 15-20 good games in two seasons??? I'd offer him a 1-year extension on the same pay until he really really proves his worth to the team! But on the same level please offer Gardner a chance to develop in the first team! He will be a proper quality player in a few years, all he needs is chances!
Damien - we need a squad, and Petrov is certainly worthy of being in that, so I see no reason why he shouldn't be offered a new deal - doesn't necessarily mean Gardner won't be chosen ahead of him.
I think Petrov deserves a new contract simply because of his attitude, which is one of the best I've ever seen in a footballer at Aston Villa. Let's pay him because he wants to play for us and grafts when things aren't going his way. If only we had more of him.
May he have a cracking season for us!
You can watch streamed Villa games online for free already, all you need to do is download Sopcast or one of the other platforms and there are two o three websites that will give you a list of links every matchday.

Could some people check this post out and confirm to me that this guy is chatting utter bollocks?
So that's where taglors gone..?!
U talking to me Andy? If u are i think you're right mate! I forgot about that dude! I thought i hadn't heard from him in a
while
Jon
I agree with the whole attitude thing, he actually wants to play for us!! But is that enough? There is no point huffing and puffing if he cant blow the house down is there?
But to be fair to Stan, he has grafted and trained hard but there will always be that worry that he'll have a bad game! I am starting to see what MON sees in Petrov, but is it sustainable?
I'll back him, UTV
Phil...Yes I was replying to you, after reading the LINK you put one here..!
I will admit I have slight reservations myself about some of MON's decisions and dealings, but I see what he's trying to do. I am fully prepared for a poorer end result, come the end of the season than we had last season! That said I'm holding faith with the steady building process. That's not to say I'll still not have a moan about certain games/team selections/substitutions/January transfer window etc. I don't have my default setting as a moaner, but likewise I'm no blind follower of MON and Randy either..!
Seeing as we're being honest, I will admit to a couple of very slight reservations.
One of those being a reluctance to buy in the foreign market as i do believe the side could flourish with a bit of continental flair.
I too, like yourself, and many many others will have a moan about things, but do we really have much to moan about? Not really, its as you say, there will be certain game where i'd imagine we'd be more than obliged to moan about a below par performance.
But, going back to the LINK, I don't think that guys post is warranted really, from my eyes I don't think its fair to slate any of the new signings, or slate MON because you look at where we were when O'Leary left and look at us now, there has been good progress. I also added in one of my comments that we're following the Alex Ferguson school of football managment and I'm perfectly happy with that! There is a phrase that goes with too. . . . .
Steady progress now is key to sustainable success in the future!
i am sure the best managers have brought poorly in the past but i wouldnt mind some of the silverware fergie, wenger, have given to their clubs. i am sure mon will bring days at wembley to the villa.
so for that reason i will back our manager 100%.
In reference to the LINK posted above; I thought the guy made some good points to be honest. Some that even I have made before about our inability to keep the ball which inevitably puts pressure on our defence. It is however, way too early to even suggest that MON might be holding us back. MON has really turned things around here.
Wow the submit comment whatsit is really getting on my tits, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. now i lost my post
Oh, nevermind!
I'd wait till the end of season - I'm not really a fan of Petrov even though last few games he's played well. I for one would let this run out unless somebody comes in with a good cash offer next season.
when petrov signed ,didnt he sign as an attacking midfeilder??.
how many chances has he had to play in his favoured position,NOT MANY.
Whensnext post damian
i think that Gardner deserves his chance in the first team....he is a fantastic player when we play him in midfield
Not much happening in the world of Aston Villa these past few days. Just read that Martin wants to bring in Heskey in Jan, I know this is not new news but I thought after we had a £6m bid turned down that would be the end of it. IMO too old too pricey and really not improving the team.
As there is nothing else to talk about, what are your views on this?
