We tried telling you about Nike and we had it from some very reliable sources that it was a done deal a few weeks ago but when we asked the club we were told otherwise.
Today, just two weeks after the club denied what we were saying they've confirmed it.
When we asked the club we were told 'Hummel are our existing supplier and there is no news on a change to this arrangement'.
We were not told, 'we're talking to companies', 'we can't comment on this' or even asked not to pursue it, we were told something else. I'm a little disappointed in the club but very happy about the deal.
This site is a blog, so if we here news we might publish it but most of it is opinion. We're not reporters but we do follow some things up.
Do we trust the club when we're told something next time? We'll just have to wait and see but a little disappointed about the whole thing.

... they were trying not to scupper a deal by saying it was done before the financials were sorted out... can't attach blame methinks.
but from what i have in front of me it looks like it was a done deal when i asked
what i'm saying is they could have asked us not to follow it up, or said something else ... it wouldn't have been the first time we'd have done something for the club. i'm not asking that they tell us everything i'm asking that they don't lie
I'm so happy about Nike being our kit manufacturer, about time we had a good one!
Up The Villa!
new owners or not, do you really expect the club to tell the truth to you? they only tell us what we already know on the forums and they dont think much of this site or any of the other sites - contrary to what they may say or suggest
cant wait to get my new shirt though!!!!!! so happy that i can wear the shirt with pride
There was probably legal issues there in particular with Hummel. 2 weeks sales would have been made since not a lot but may have been something underwritten in the pay off. Personally I do not care what they tell me as long as they get things done, I mean who am I? In fact I think there is a lot of professionalism in the way the club has been silent over all major signings and improvements. Randy says himself Actions speak louder than words.
a lie is an inaccurate or false statement. they had the options to a. say nothing, b. ask not to pursue or c. tell the truth - probably others
i also agree actions speak louder than words but a lie is a lie. club representatives have said they want to develop relationships with supporter sites. is this a good way to go about it?
i'm not seeing much else apart from them offering us images of the holte hotel with advertising for the official site on it .. none of it tastes very nice
Brilliant news! another step in the right direction.
I think we will sell more shirts this summer than ever befor. It's a desirable sports brand and will make a nice kit that the players and fans will be prode to wear not Hummble!
More people will be willing to spend the money for a nice kit and training gear. This will help the club make a little back to what they are clearly intending to spend on new player and wages.
Can't blame the club representatives. You've got to understand their situation just like how you want them to understand us fans and tell the truth. It was not right for them to comment without
a) securing the deal first and
b) informing hummel that they are about to officially announce.
I feel the club did the right thing. If they had replied saying "We're talking to people on a new sponser", the news would have spread like wildfire and hummel would have been real disappointed. Not the way to treat your business partner even if your ending their deal soon.
but they could have said 'do us a favour, don't run with this' or 'no comment' .. looks, it's good news (if the kit manufacturer is something that floats your boat and my boat is actually floating, which is surprising) and i really don't feel like defending my position again .. but a lie is an inaccurate or false statement
This is great news!!! This is just one more example of the new regime trying to prove their ambitions.
In regards to the blog... If you look at their words they told you the truth! They said that Hummel are the existing supplier - this probably was 'true' as the deal wasn't finalized or doesn't go into effect until a future date, AND when they said that there is no news to report on this arrangement what needs to be stressed is the 'news' part. There was no news to report on arrangement because it had not been finalized.
I respect their decision, as the deal wasn't finalized, yet. It's obvious in their comments. However, in the future I would try to read between the lines, as they are very crafty. In all honesty, I kind of like that...
In my opinion its just more good news and shows ambition. Imagine, new kit, new crest, add to that more quality players with a legendary manager in the making, its got to be good. Remember though that villa is also a business, they're not going to confirm or deny rumours till the deal is done, well not a deal that big anyway. Up the Villa !!!
Does this mean an end to Villa shirts with chevrons?!? Good, I'm tired of looking like I support the Danish national team.
Damien, your my favourite Villa blogger but please lighten up you muppet! Yet again the club is putting actions before words. The most important thing is yet again the club continues to move forward. It almost seems as though every other week we receive more and more good news. The training ground, hotel, kit, new player signed, existing players being offered new contracts, new CEO, fans forum. All this has resulted in happy players and Villa fans and what inside 4 months. Damien your comment was grumpy and not in the spirit of today's fantastic news. The club acted completely correctly
as i've said to a few that have emailed in, it just leaves a sour taste ... there were other things the club could have said ...
i'm happy about everything the club is doing and don't want transparency on all things ... but they've said they want to develop relationships with supporter sites. this, along with other things, isn't the right way to go about it
i am happy though. villa are moving in the right direction and it is going to get better and better ... soon, we may even have those better relationships with the club that they talk about and not just individuals at the club
I say who cares. JUST DO IT!
is that, with regards to football kits, Nike is more willing to work with the club to design a unique kit (this is quite the opposite with other sports over in the States, where Nike has applied "templates" to college football and basketball). Adidas, meanwhile, has set up three "template" designs for all of its kits.
best news i've ever heard. At last!
>:( I will NOT wear a Villa shirt made by Nike. You know my reasons, overhyped crap made in 3rd world sweat shops by people underpaid, exploited and mistreated.
Not good news at all.
The club shop has just cut 20% off all the hummel gear. Personally, I'm very disappointed with the switch to nike. Hummel was edgy and fresh. The danes no more about fashion than most. I know it's not a design contest but I love wearing the hummel gear! Getting only good feedback too. Nike is like wearing a frickin golden arch on your breast. I won't be buying the new crap they put out.
This is probably the best kit deal aston villa have ever had!!! the kits will be amazing and the gear in the club shop will be proper quality merchandise. Finlly glad to be getting rid of this hummel crap and im over the moon about the nike deal. You sad old twats who think this is a bad deal are pathetic nike is proabably the biggest sport company in the world grow up u sad old pricks.
It just shows nike feel villa are going to be pushing high in seasons to come... the future is good 4 villa and nike have got in there while they have the chance. good move by both parties!
who can moan new training ground state of the art training kit get the best out of our players
I shall wear my Villa kit with pride as i do with all the others and now take the P*ss out of Blues (small heath alliance) and all the blue noses thinking that they'll get promoted lol ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
;D ;D ;D - This is the best news ive heard in relation to villa for ages, so will yous stop wingin about about some oul statement. For goodness sake, nike make kit for brazil, united, arsenal, barca - the list goes on, and now theve choosen villa - we can't be that bad. ;D ;D ;D
;D I think it is good that we have changed kit the hummel kit got boring after last season. But i hope nike doesnt stick to the same layout every season or else they are as bad as hummel, but i think we should give em' a chance. Although i would have preferred adidas. :)
i am happy we have nike for our kit. But i dont want our creast changed. Why are they changing it for? >:(
ITS BRIL THAT WE HAVE NIKE BECAUSE WE DESREVE TO HAVE A BIG KIT DESIGHN LIKE MAN U ARSENAL CHELSEA AND LIVERPOOL NOW WE ARE THERE SO NOW WE CAN TAKE THE PISS OUT OF BIRMINGHAM CITY FOR BEEN THE WORST TEAM IN THE MIDLANDS FOR THERE SPONSER
i cant wait to see the kit, i think its gonna look really good.:P

Its fantastic if your a villa fan at the moment. new chairman, 3rd richest in prem. in my opinion a manager who could get a job as managaer for club in the world. A new badge for the future. a new training ground worth £13mill, and the best shirt sponsers we could get. on top of that new quality players this summer added to the quality we signed this summer. Ive never been so excited since ive supported villa. When o 'leary was manager 1 year ago i couldnt have dreamed we would be where we are now. we are going to be a real force again. Up the villa. get behind the lads for the 2007/2008 season, and who no's where we can finish ;D. Up the villa 8)
the new kit is sikk ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
