No Petrov and Milner in Prague

Wednesday, 05 November 08, 01:50 PM · Comments (36)

Stilyian Petrov and James Milner, along with Isiah Osbourne and Marlene Harewood, have been left behind in the UK for Thursday's UEFA Cup match against Slavia Prague.

Obviously Milner is being rested and Petrov might not be fit so maybe we are going to see a change or two. If we're lucky.

Osbourne hasn't been getting much of a look in but I think he will probably play in the Zilina game in a fortnight. Harewood is just sub-standard, to put it nicely, and doesn't deserve a game. Although I can see him playing against Zilina.

I assume we may see something of Delfouneso in this match as he will be the 3rd striker in the squad. However, this depends if MON decides to go 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 away from home.

Both of these games should be victories, but as Monday proves you can often lose to inferior opposition if you don't take your chances.

Have a bad feeling about this game, Milner should be playing in this game..not left a home, if he's injured then fair enough....can't believe i'm saying this but Petrov is a huge loss..I would be very happy with a draw but these are no mugs.

Milner played against Ajax.

Is it safe to come and play now? Have all the Newcastle Brown drinkers gone away? :(

Ha ha Ive just added to the banter on the previous post...

Anyway, why is Harewood stayin at home? Has he become a dad or somethin then James? Is that why?
I was hoping he would get a game tomorrow too!

Osbourne isn't much of a loss considering our midfielders...

the os says osbornes partner is expecting in the next few days. and marlons partner has just popped one out.

is it unfashionable to be married and have kids these days?

Wouldn't know, definitely unfashionable for a 20-22 year old in my opinion, but then again, if you have the money like Osbourne has, he's probably got everythin....nice house, car and next comes...family

Im looking forward to this game because I think MON will change the side considerably.

Im hoping barry and sidwell play in the middle with reo on the right (he played fantastic there at the start of the season). Id like davis and laursen paired up again at the back. Id also like to see Delfouneso playing(just dont know who i'd like to see him playing instead of).

Haha, no we will go with the 451 again....Drop Barry and give Reo a break. Sidwell and Salifou in. I dont care what you all say, atleast Salifou will look like he gives a toss. The substitutions this season have been abysmal, and thats being kind. He got lucky the other week when Barry got injured, on came big John, he made the difference. Funny that, when Barry was replaced against Kazakhstan we smashed in four, then last week he came off and we hit three. It would be different if he looked like he was trying or that he cared. I mean look at Petrov, we were all on his back, but he stuck at it and has become our best player for this season....The sooner we rid ourselves of Barry the better structure we will have in the midfield. Id suggest to play him at LB, but he would struggle to beat Shorey out of the start at the moment......

Nice one Leroy. I don't think Barry is the only one under performing though. Shorey needs to improve quickly, cos when Freddy comes back, he wont get another look in. Am I the only one puzzled as to why so many players are allegedly fatigued?

We have put in some very unimpressive displays recently, and largely got away with it. Most sickening was the complete lack of desire and commitment by too many players (esp in Newcastle game). If we play like zombies on thursday, we're going to suffer.

We could have done with the HARE to race around the pitch like his mad name sake and inspire the others to show a bit more fight.

Hey guys

Milner is injured

I'd like to see us go 4-5-1 tomorrow...
Young - Davies - Jesus(not yet God!) - Shorey
NRC - Gardner - Sidwell - Salifou - Young
Carew

And i'd tell the 3 midfielders "you play well tonight, you start sunday"

Gabby on the bench to change the game/formation if/when needed.

We have put in some very unimpressive...

Agreed Barry is not the only one, but he has consistently underperformed this season. Spot on mate with the lack of commitment call. All the big teams have players who stick up their hand and inspire the restof the team with a big effort or performance, and sometimes thats enough to get all three points. Who do we have who provides that? Maybe Laursen. Occasionally Reo. Ash and Gab are young and maybe in time they can become leaders or "go to guys", whatever you want to call it. All i know is Barry never looked to me like that kind of guy for us. Last year and the previous year he atleast attempted to be our leader........This season he has looked poor both in performance and certainly attitude. MON plays him because he is scared that he will get upset if he is subbed. I say slot him in at left back and tell him hes lucky to be in the starting side at all. We had virtually no midfield the other night, i mean Butt and Barton bossed us around, appalling and embarrassing. We have healthy competition for midfield spots now but when the hell do we change it up? Only when someone gets injured......that in my opinion is totally missing the point of the term "competition for places", a term that was bandied around all off season.....Shake it up MON we are stagnant and predictable at the moment...

And Milner is injured, a sore side.

I would be thrilled to see Delfouneso given some minutes. He is one of my favorite players. He is going to be big! Besides that I can guarantee we will see Sidwell on the pitch at some point and a good chance of Gardner/Davies.

Heres my Team for tonight..

Fridel
L.Young Cuellar Davies Barry
Routledge Sidwell Gardner A.Young
Gabby Delfouneso

I would put Barry left back 1. Because Shorey is shite 2. Because Barry isn't performing in Midfield.

Rather play Routledge than NRC because NRC has looked very poor over last 3 games and seems to be sulking...bad attitude at the min.

I'm truly staggered by all the criticism of Barry, don't forget he's having do do the work 2, carrying that useless tosser that plays alongside him (NRC). Gardner really deserves a run on the right of midfield, he has a really sweet right foot and a natural eye for goal, he might drop the odd clanger but it's usually because he's trying to do something creative.

January sales: out Marlon, Osbourne (never a premiership player), Taylor.
In: Nolan (swap for NRC, Megson is stupid enough),Defoe,Sturridge.

Barry doing the work of two? He has touched the ball 7 times in two matches. He is far too slow to tackle anyone....where on earth do you get the opinion that he is doing the work of two? Reo works harder than anyone on the team and possibly in the league, thats certainly not his problem, its his passing and finishing skills. So i have to say that your comments about Reo not doing any work are utter crap sorry
