No trip to Amsterdam but a visit to Prague if you're interested?

Tuesday, 07 October 08, 07:22 AM · Comments (79)

Right, I really wanted a trip to Amsterdam as I hear they have some great museums worth a visit but I didn't get it. Instead I got a trip to Prague in November; anyone else going?

Anyway, the dates are as follows:

Home, Oct 23 - Ajax
Away, Nov 6 - Slavia Prague
Home, Dec 4 - Zilina
Away, Dec 17 - Hamburg

I'm booking my flights to Prague now, hoping I get myself a ticket.

If anyone wants a decent 4-Star hotel in Prague, try this place:

I spent four nights there in July 2007. Don't be put off by the fact that it's not that near the centre, the tram system in Prague goes all around the city.

Just looked at the whole group's fixtures- Hamburg can count themselves lucky, they got both Villa and Ajax at home.
So they'll go through. And I can see us squeezing in 3rd place. That'll do though. A bit of luck in the last 32 and then it's anyone's!

Well i was really pleased with the draw, I was working in prague two years ago and have kept in touch with old work friends, so i will be saving money on a hotel..!! As for Hamburg my brother is studying there, so it has worked out really well..!! Tickets for the Hamburg game could be expensive, last time i was there it was around £45..! A night out in Hamburg, is about the same price as going out in Brum. Prague on the other hand is great value for money, try and go on one of the brewery tours... they feed you aswell..!!!

I have been to both Amsterdam and Prague and reckon we will have a better time in Prague as more relaxed and less agro.

Sorry guys, I'm a reader not a poster.

Five of us are flying to Bratislava via ryanair for like £45 return, land thurs morn 9am, 200m journey up via €20 euro train or £75 car hire. Stop in Prague thurs (to celebrate) drive back to bratislava fri morning, dick about there for a day (and you lot can do your museums) and fly back to brum sat morning at 7am.

A proper European adventure!

Failing that boys, try skyscanner website you can fly out thurs and bck fri to Luton for less than £70.

(sound like a sales person or what?!)

Just make sure you book a seat( its only a couple euro more)on the train and not just buy a train ticket like we did last year. We had to stand (along with 100's of others) all the way to Prague which takes around 5 hrs with one of the worst hangovers ever.

Slightly off topic, but have you seen that we are favourites to finish top of our group snd fourth favourites behind Milan, Sevilla and Valencia to win the tournament.

I am ever the optimist but I doubt either of those will realistically happen.

We are likely to prob come second in group and then IMO go out semi-finals, which would still be a solid effort.

I'm saving the long distance travel money for a trip to Milan in the next round!

It was a travel forum, some guy was ripping another for booking a ticket online for £100, he paid £20 at the station. Bit of a risk though since we land at 9:40. We've got a 5 door astra in bratislava airport for £75. Which split between 5 is nothing and we can bomb it up.

Saying that... Our "astra" will probably turn out to be a borat style ice cream van or a cattle truck!

I lived in Hamburg for two years - anyone who prefers a trip to Prague is potty. Hamburg is a fantastic city, with great people, loads of water and the best pubs and clubs in Europe. Also in December the "Dom" is on in the Reeperbahn area, basically a massive funfair with incredible rides open usually until 3am. The beer is great - Holsten comes from Hamburg if you can stand the Spurs link. The city also has the funkiest football team in the world - FC St Pauli, which is owned by a transvestite, plays in the docks area, has a skull and crossbones as its emblem, plays in brown, has a 20,000 crowd full of punks and hookers and enters the pitch to the tune of ACDC's "Hells Bells". Prague is absolutely not in the same league as Hamburg, unless you like drinking half a pint of watery beer with your English-style breakfast with a bunch of accountants from Luton.
Not even an argument where to go
