Not wanting to tell you that we told you: Hughes joins Fulham

Wednesday, 27 June 07, 10:55 AM · Comments (11)

Did we tell you that Aaron Hughes was at Fulham last week having a medical? I think we did.

Well today he joined and seeing as it was only a rumour last week we can't really take any credit for telling you first. That and it was one of the worst kept secrets in football this summer.

The deal is worth £1mn. to Aston Villa, which is exactly what the club paid Newcastle for the player when he joined under the previous incumbent.

So, that is now quite a few that have left. You won't be surprised to hear then that rumour doing the rounds is that there is to be a big press conference some time this week where Martin O'Neill is going to unveil quite a few new players.

I'm not so sure myself but I also wouldn't be surprised if it happened on Friday at about lunch time; just in time for the Saturday papers.

I'm not going to lose any sleep at the loss of Hughes, but I wish him all the best down at Fulham - a solid enough defender, and I think he'll do well, especially if made skipper by Sanchez.

So have Blues got 'signifcant funding' too now? Can't wait to see who they get linked with.....

For me the loss of Hughes is quite exciting, I really thought he would be OK as a squad player, especially considering his versatility accross the back. I'm not particularly sad to see him go but I am a little surprised given that we were already weak in the RB position. What excites me is that there simply has to be some decent players coming in but, for some reason, they're not releasing the details yet.

I would say there are a few deals all ready done just waiting for the right time to be rubberstamped in the next few days to a week with maybe a suprise signing or two

why would u be worried for Villa's chances next season???? If O'Neill wasnt selling these players, then we would need to worry! MON is not stupid, the only reason he would let so many average players go is because He has better players lined up to replace them! I think very exciting times are just around the corner!

I still think MON should look at Appiah from Fenerbahce! I read today that he is linked with Celtic though

I think we have players who are definatly coming to club but they are just waiting for the right time to tell us. £1M isnt a bad return considering we paid £1.5M for him. He wants first team football which is something we probably wont be able to offer him with the new signings that are coming.

MON wouldnt let players go if he didnt have other players who are better lined up.

and the out-list grows and grows while the in-list stays empty....

Well, those signings to be unveiled at the moment are 3 16 yr olds for the youth team but apparently Gordon Cowans and Tony McAndrew think they'll be world-class...in 6 years time. That's a bonus at least.
Calm yourselves down with this transfer lark, there's 2 months left to sign players, there could and most probably will be, about 7 players coming in that time.
