O'Halloran goes on tour to the States and Hendrie joins Sheff Utd

Youngster Stephen O'Halloran, who has more caps than starts for Villa by, will be heading out with the first team to the States.

O'Halloran's only club football experience is with Wycombe Wanderers although he has two caps for the Republic Of Ireland. That to me sounds like he's a good footballer. It's obvious that he is the replacement for J'Lloyd Samuel behind the experienced Bouma.

It's good to see youngsters take the step up to the first team, although there's been no sign of Sam Williams yet. He also has promise and did well on loan at Wrexham last season.

In other news, Villa's number of smurf look-a-likes has been reduced by one with the revelation that Lee Hendrie has joined Sheffield United on a free.

Lee always gave 100% and sometimes gave too much, but for all his attitude he was a fairly good and reliable servant of Aston Villa. I think he's grown up now but it's too little too late for his Villa career unfortunately. Had he grown up faster he'd probably be a quality midfielder for us and possible England now.

Good luck to all the players mentioned here and hopefully O'Halloran and Williams will be the next youngsters to make the step up to Premiership level.

Well people like Hendrie have the world on a plate and ruin it all because of a lack of brains or awareness of their lucky postion in life, so many poor people in the world and people like Hendrie blow it, good riddance get lost and 1 more thing will you have a testimonial and give the money to a charity Hendrie?

Sam has been injured for quite sometime now but is almost back to full fitness , it's a shame that he lost most of last season due to the niggly injury, especially when you consider he was on loan with the lad from Blackburn (Derbyshire)at Wrexham who did well with U21's and Sam looked a better player than him then - I for one hope he gets upto speed but i am biased.

I'm pleased O'Halloran is joining the squad. I've seen him play for my country and was impressed with him. May he have a long and successful carerr with the Villa! :)

I remember him scoring some great curling goals, but after a good spell seemed to get complacent. Never rated him as a consistent performer, will suit the championship.

see ya

Hendie's goal against Arsenal in 2005-06 was a wicked shot, shame we lost 3-1 in the end. O'Halloran looks like decent cover for Bouma and may even be challenging him in a few seasons time. He should suit the Championship but i'm not too keen on him telling the official site he's relishing playing us in a few seasons time, i reckon he'll be retired by the time Sheff Utd. get back up.

I went to a dinner last week for Lee Hendries testimonial year. He was a good servant to Villa over the years, yes he made mistakes and yes he perhaps throw away better oportunities. If you remember he was one of the first young players to get really good money from football, it was simular to the likes of Giggs. However Giggs had a great manager around him to help him get through some of the difficulties with fame and wealth at a young age.
Lee Hendrie went to visit the childrens charity Accorns the day of the meal and he pleaded all proceeds to there childrens hospice.
Lee overall has been an excellent servant to Villa and I for one wish him well at Sheffield United.

i wish hendrie all the best in the future but he has been dead weight for quite a few years now! Hopefully O'Hallaran & willams wont squander this opportunity the way hendrie did!

Villa_Rules, unfortunately there's not a lot going on at the mo...

I'm quite interested in the development of youth players and them breaking through into the first team so I posted it for those that are the same as me. If there are any! :D

Thanks for the memories Hendrie.

Watched him at Stoke last season, not sure he will still offer anything in the Prem. Agree with earlier comments will do a good job again in the Championship as he showed at Stoke.

And still they continue to the leave the club! But heartening to read about new youngsters coming through :D

hi everyone
this is my first post, i have enjoyed reading comments from my Villa friends, just wanted to run something by all of you, we are all concerned over the size of squad but i feel we should be really concerned as we have took a bare bones 20 to the states and reading between the lines we will probably add a right back and one midfielder which gives us 22, here is the worrying bit, that 22 includes Berger, laursen and delaney i dont think i need to say anymore
