At times, although erratic, there has been some excellent football and some good attacking play.
It looks as though O'Leary has got the footballing bit right. Good, sleek passing movements and less Wimbledon-esque long ball has worked well.
However, there is one problem with this. Good football does not get points. Winning gets points. Ask Jose Mourinho which he'd rather have and by watching them play you know exactly which one it is.
And it's not pretty football.
This is where O'Leary has got it wrong. We need to be winning games. Thuggery, dirtiness and rough football are no problem in a world where they get you points. Good football would be fine if it got you points regularly, but, alas, it does not.
How much did Newcastle win under Kevin Keegan when there were arguable the best footballing team the Premiership has ever seen?
I think it's about time O'Leary just turned round to the team and said "forget how you do it, just get the goals and the points."
Goals are essential and we're too busy trying to put in a nice little cross or play the intricate through ball. We just need to score goals. Goals goals goals. That's it. Doesn't matter how, we've just got to do it.
Go through the middle, run at the defence, kick them, push them, cheat if you have to - most of the Premiership already do, particularly the big teams like Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal.
Angel needs to stop trying the cute little flicks and just get the ball, run at goal and shoot. Not play it wide for the nice cross. Get the ball and put it in the net.
If we don't, well end up in the Championship before you can say "he put it in the top corner."
O'Leary: Sort it out. I respect you as a manager but we need to forget the pretty stuff and grind out the points, before teams like Sunderland overtake us. No offence meant to Sunderland fans, but after spending ?22m you'd expect us to be above any of the promoted teams.
Let's hope we get the goals on Sunday againts Middlesbrough. And if we can play pretty football too then it's a bonus.
