One match at a time, Wigan next

Monday, 17 October 05, 11:45 AM · Comments (0)

Next weekend we entertain Wigan at Villa Park and I'm bringing this up now because I suspect a few could be getting carried away with the victory yesterday.

I'm not saying it wasn't a good victory, as away from home in the Premiership is or that it doesn't feel good to get one over the Blues but lets not forget it was only Birmingham City!

I still don't think of them as a top flight side and Steve Bruce even has fears of relegation this season.

How many of you look at the Premiership table and think that Birmingham City just don't belong because I know I do and that's why we shouldn't get carried away with one victory against a team we should have beaten and probably by more than one goal.

Wigan are going to be tough opponents. They beat Newcastle at the weekend and are currently 5th after a quarter of the season.

Birmingham was a great result but let's not take our eye of the bigger picture and this victory doesn't give David O'Leary 'legend' or 'hero' status, it merely shows that he knows how to get the best out of a good situation for himself.
