One more for Berger but Laursen is off

I suppose these two little gems get classified as speculation although I wouldn't be surprised if The Times have it right and the Mirror have it wrong.

The Times are reporting that Patrik Berger is to be given a one year contract extension. While this was widely written about yesterday I don't get it. He's had a couple or three good games and we're talking about extending his contract. Have we not learnt anything?

The other rumour is from the Mirror and it's pretty impossible to believe. They think Martin Laursen will leave Aston Villa. I've only got this from the BBC Gossip page and not seen it online but I can't believe this for a minute.

He's got it made at Villa; light training and the odd game for probably quite a lot of cash each week. He might as well just stay, have two or three good games and then get his agent in. It seem like that's all you've got to do to get a contract extension these days at Villa.

Laursen will not go in the summer. Like you say he is on a sweet deal at the Villa. Plus he seems to be able to walk back into the team when recovered from lengthy injuries. Which I understand fully because he is probably the best defender we have at the club. Just a shame about the injuries!

Yeah, it's been 2-3 good games, but during that time, he's shown energy and a desire to attack, two things that the Villans need. Putting Berger in a diamond midfield in front of Petrov (With Gareth and either Maloney or Young on the wings- Gabby or Luke would pair with the Hulk up front) might open up the creativity of both players, and close our goal differential.

laursen should stay along with Berger. its annoying that laursen has been injured consistantly since the former blue nose horsfield took him out! annyway he's probably our best defender, given the chance probably one of the best in the prem, after all he did play for AC Milan? 8)
