O'Neill to steal Nugent from under Roy Keane?

Saturday, 23 June 07, 04:38 AM · Comments (32)

Everyone knows Roy Keane is interested in David Nugent, basically because his very nice chairman told us, but nobody knows for sure who the second manager that has had his bid accepted; until now.

It's none other than our very own Martin O'Neill. While on holiday in Barbados the manager is still pulling the Villa Park strings.

You know I like David Nugent and I'd love to see him at Villa Park. He is young, so under the right manager he will only get better and he's starting from a very strong position.

Anyway, expect it to happen fairly soon as the bid has been accepted and it's now very much up to the player and his representatives.

No thanks.

Not even proven premiership, and certainly no better than Gabby or Luke Moore. We should be doing much better.

not the best target that ive seen us linked with ... but he is the best player outside the championship, scores great goals and is the reason behind anything decent preston ever do.

so yeah lets get him in and see what he can do, will only improve us!

i think this is out of order, Roy keane has waited and waited for a right person to come so he can put a NICE bid that person!
And if villa get him sunderland will still beat them home and away!! ;D

Beat us home and away ?? yeah right.....Sunderland are gonna win the Prem in their first season and the FA and League cup, then go on and be Champions of Europe brushing aside AC Milan, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Internazionale on their way........well to hear the pair of egotistical dreamers that are Quinn and Keane....... anyway.......see you at Villa Park next season.....and lets see who wins home and away

David Nugent is exactly the sort of player we need. After watching Carew last season, he is a support striker. All the time I saw him power through teams and set up other players. The only problem is that we don't have a tap in player. Dean Saunders was probably our last tap in player. Someone who has the instinct to follow the ball in. Players like Young Moore and Gabby are flair players, we need a good honest centre forward and that is Nugent.

sunderland ha :D they can only just win 1 match in a season let alone a double but back to nugent he would be a decent signing but we dont need anyone more strikers weve got carew moore and gabby which i think are all better then nugent no ovense i would enjoy seeing him here but do we really need him? :-\ ive just heard that villa have been told to stop intrest in reo-coker because west ham want silly money for him!

i really dont think we need him i think we have enough strikers and i think MON should start focusing on a right back

I think it will be pleasing to her that nugent has the same agent as our very own gary cahill which could help discussions as they will already be familiar with each other!

i would love nugent at the villa, he is young, dynamic and exactly the type of player we should be after,

I'd say he is par on course with Gabby and Luke for potential, except he's got one thing they don't (actually two things!) an England cap, and an England goal!
Would love to see him challenging Gabby, Luke and Young to partner Big John and i expect if it comes down to Sunderland or Villa, it's obvious who he'd pick.

Nugent is not proven in the premiership. We need established players who have already done it and can bring us to the next level. We have enough young promising talent up front and dont need another. We someone to lead them with Carew.

whats roy keane doing on top of nugent anyway?

Dont know about you but I didnt think much to Nugent in the Euro under 21s. Thought he looked ordinary. He is though at the right age and has a decent record in the championship. If he can go on and do a decent job like Darren Bent did when he left Ipswich then I would have no problem.
I trust MON and if he thinks hes the one then thats fine by me.

I've not seen alot of Nugent in the championship but i did watch him in the recent U21 tournament and he did not fill me with excitement. He spent most of the time on the deck having tripped over his own feet.

Let's move for a proven goalscorer at the top level......Bent?

jonny Wrote: | 18.43BST | Jun 23, 2007

i like nugent, but he is unproven in the prme, so therfore i would go for darren bent, and pay the 18m for him, as he garentees you at least 20goals a season maybe with a team with the likes of barry, petrov , young maybe wright-phillips and carew feeding him he would get atleast 20 maybe 25! so i wuold pay the high asking price, evenif it is riduculous, because you get a proven prem striker, who is english, good work rate, good team palyer, and a garenteed goal machine, could we ask for any more??!!!

up the villa!!!!!!!

I really dont think we need nugent, i know he's an honest center forward and all that but i honestly think we should be looking at somebody with alot more experience and who is alot more proven at the higher levels. We have alot of raw talent (which Nugent has) with, gabby ashley young and luke moore and with JPA gone i think we could do with somebody older and more proven to help these youngsters develop. it seems silly if we are, as villa constantly tell us, aiming at european football to opt for a proven championship player. I mean if gabby scored ten in the premiership, think what he would have done in the championship.

Nugent would be a good signing for Villa, reasonable at 6 million, so we can spend big on SWP!
My team for next season:
Carson/Gordon
Young/Hoyte - Laursen, Mellberg - Bouma
SWP - NRC, Barry - Young
Carew Nugent

With the money we have to spen he would be a snip at 6 mil, if it dosent work out you would recoupe most of it from a resale.Keep him for a couple of seasons and if it dosent work sell him for what you can get

Nick123 Wrote: | 19.11BST | Jun 23, 2007

He would be a good signing, but i think that villa don't need him, we need a striker with more calibre and more experiance. somebody who can score you hem 20goals a season rather than prob 10 goals a season. we already have enough young talent, so we should by experianced players to help create role models and learining curb for the youngsters.

Some people are saying get Bent because Nugent id unproven in the prem, Where do you think Bent came from. I remember watching Bent when he was in the Championship and should we really pay 3 times as much rather than take a risk on someone who i bel;ieve has more potential then Bent. Snip at 6 mil!!!!

Would rather have Forlan and Bent is way (way, way) too much money.

If Nugent comes, then I trust MON has seen enough to suggest he is better than what he have. Personally, I would like us to go all out for Owen as he has that 9m buyout clause in his contract. Ok we can't offer him europe at the moment, but I think we would be a step up from Newcastle. Any thoughts on this?

We need a proven Premiership striker. Not an unproven kid who isnt as good as Moore or Agbonlahor.

If we want to compete for the top 6 we need to set our sights a lot higher than Nugent.

There are alot better strickers than David Nugent 6m is too much.Defoe or Al Smith would be a better buy

glosvillan
glosvillan Wrote: | 04.38BST | Jun 24, 2007

I think Nugent has potential, but we should be going for better, more proven players. And with the funds we have, should aim alot higher is we are to get europe next year. I see Nugent as a player who likes to hold the ball up, rather than someone who will run off the other striker...he's similar to Carew in that respect and so we should be going for someone like Defoe or Bent. if henry is worth 16m, is forlan really worth 15m? and bent 18m?

nugent for 6m is good business

Apprently Villa are now cooling there interest in Reo Coker as West Ham want way too much for him. I could see this happening from the start. WHU probably want at least £10M for him when he isnt worth that.

The funniest rumour i heard today was that Liverpool have rejected the chance to re sign Owen from Newcastle. Newcastle were prepared to accept a swap deal Riise & Bellamy for Owen. Are they having a lauph? :D

nugent would be a good signing but why not hold out for a few more days and see if bent goes to spurs and get defoe. If nugent comes to villa would he be able to push agbonglahor out of the squad anyway and we should pay 8 mill for re o cocker west ham should be lucky if the get more for him we should also go for carson or boruc. Up the villa

yawn yawn yawn!!

Fed up of transfer talk it's dull. Why do people say 'we need a 20 goal a season striker'. You just do not get that kind of striker anymore - 1 maybe 2 teams have one. Wake up and smell the coffee. A striker scoring 15 goals in todays premier league is an awesome player

Nugent would be a positive addition to the squad if the deal went though but i stil believe we need another experienced striker....Carew is all we have in that department. dont get me wrong agbonlahor, moore and young are all fantasic players but an experienced striker is needed to balance the forward line....maybe someone like defoe, smith or keane but he would be a long shot
