Only three places for Champions League and four linesmen to come

Friday, 26 January 07, 11:57 AM · Comments (4)

French great Michel Platini is the new UEFA president after being elected ahead of Lennart Johansson this afternoon. The vote was effectively won yesterday when FIFA president Sepp Blatter pledged support for his 'friend Platini'.

The Frenchman has made a few pledges in his bid to take over the second biggest job in football. He wants to limit Champions League places per nation to three, he's planning on bringing in four linesmen per game and is completely against video help for match officials.

"This is just the beginning of an adventure. I'm happy to be able to represent European football. I'm very moved and very happy." Platini said.

These changes are not going to happen overnight but it's going to be interesting to see how they impact the game. Closer to home; it now effectively make it a big three and not a big four when these changes begin. The battle intensifies.

I like the current placings, gives us more chance. But I wouldn't mind seeing three champions league places allocated to the top three and one to the FA cup winners, we won't see 2nd string sides then - bring on swp and whoever MON can persuade to come

4 linesmen per game is only going to cause trouble, it would mean both linesmen would have to flag simultainiously for the decision to be justifiable. what would happen if 1 flaged and the other didnt ??.The idea of 4 linesmen shouldnt be made compulsory ,it should be there as an option for the individual FA,s to use at their own discretion

4 lines men would deffinatley not work. it will create to much confusion and un organised mess. i think a better proposal would be the introduction of television refs like in rubgy, make the game fair!
