Open letter to Richard FitzGerald

Wednesday, 10 January 07, 12:14 PM · Comments (6)

I've mulled over pointing you to this 'open letter' to Richard FitzGerald, our new CEO but figured you should see it if you haven't.

While I appreciate everyone has a right to write to the new CEO Aston Villa is no longer a public company and the club do not have to answer to anyone.

Mr FitzGerald came to Aston Villa in December and has hardly, I am assuming, had a moment to get his feet under his new desk. To try and force his hand with this 'open letter', is a little harsh and wrong, but that's just my opinion.

The letter should have been sent privately and if there was a response and permission was given it could have been published. The paper should at least give him a chance to do his job first before hurling questions at him!

Mr FitzGerald has an impressive CV and a great deal of experience. he doesn't need to be dealing with this in his first few weeks. I actually hope he doesn't respond on the grounds that he works for a private limited company and he only needs to answer to the owner, Mr Lerner.

What happens if Mr FitzGerald refuses to answer; will they then write an open letter to someone else at Villa Park?

This is the most important month in the Premiership season. The Birmingham Post should at least wait until this is over and then try and contact him privately before pulling a stunt like this.

A quick note to the person who wrote the letter; Mr FitzGerald worked at TWI/IMG Media for 18 years and 3 months; not over two decades.

If the Birmingham Post reporter had bothered his ass he would have found the answers to his questions posted on severa lsupporters web sites by General Krulak.

This is just silly childish reporting and teddy throwing because the fans are now no longer having to buy their rag to find out what is happening. We are told directly!

Almost posted this at VV on the thread over there but it would have been lost in the noise :)

I live in the midle of the US, in a small town, and the closest pro sports team from me is 2 hours drive away. With that being said I could have pointed him to the answers to about half the questions without much looking and most of the rest I know I saw a responce someplace and it might take me a bit to find them.

I would guess in about 30 min time I could answer about 90% of his questions (with a wee bit of research)

It smacks of a vendetta by the posts sports writer against Doug Ellis and Villa by inferring that they have failed to address many issues regarding media requests etc. Whatever Dougs faults, no one can deny his passion for Villa and what he did achieve for the club as a whole during his time. Perhaps had there not been such rubbish written in the past they would have been made more welcome.

I take my hat off to you Damien and take back all i've said about you. At last you have realised that our management and staff need some time to settle into their roles and there is no instant success nor magic spells to cast which will make us top 6 with more or less the same team as O'Learyout had. Praise be!

Hello Max

I've alwasy understood that, it's just that I also understood that O'Leary was a muppet from day one. I can't be blamed just because it took others a little longer to catch up.

You'll only see negative things on this site about things that need fixing; right now it's communication and the official web site.

Mr FitzGerald however is speaking to people about both of those issues so it shouldn't be long before eveyrthing you read on here is all positive!

General Krulak might be coming in for soon though and that will go against what most think but it's just the way things go!

Up the Villa.

This open letter is a crap stunt by a journalist who has completely misread the atmosphere amongst Villans.
i) 99% of Villans have faith in O'Neill and Lerner to build the club's success and are understand the need for patience;
ii) I don't give a damn how good the press conferences are, how effective the media management is or how pretty the ******* messageboard looks if the team is going to win trophies;
iii) this journalist is obviously worried that he's going to run out of things to grumble about.
