Pat Murphy has a whinge at the expense of Mr Lerner

Tuesday, 06 March 07, 02:13 AM · Comments (7)

Well well well. In two days I've read a forum thread with a few people questioning Martin O'Neill and this morning I read that Pat Murphy isn't happy with Mr Lerner because he decided not to talk to the TV or Radio 'luvvies'.

I'm not providing a link to the Martin O'Neill thread as I'm not going to actively promote a negative thread and some of the comments on it are only going to get your riled up and you may respond by writing something that offends.

I won't even defend the manager, it's a pointless thread and I'm surprised it got a response. I'll say this though; give Martin O'Neill three full seasons and if after that we're still 13th at the end of the season then maybe I'll start moaning, but for now if you've got negative thoughts keep them to yourself as he's still doing his job and it is getting better.

Onto the Pat Murphy article. I'm surprised at Pat over this but don't blame him for doing it. He's lost his main contact at the club and now he's not even getting invitations but was he or are any of us really surprised?

Aston Villa are owned by one man and that one man can do pretty much whatever he wants with our club. He can make any decision he wants to make and we have absolutely no say, although this could work for Pat.

Mr Lerner may not talk to Pat Murphy but I'd not be surprised if he caved under pressure, like Richard FitzGerald but that would surprise me even more if he did.

Anyway, I've got no complaints on what our new manager is doing and he'll probably get more than three seasons from me. With regard to Aston Villa and Mr Lerner; there is absolutely nothing we can do and if I moan too much about everything that hasn't 'really' changed or what isn't really happening then I'll just be laughed at more than usual.

Lerner, through his intermediaries, is at least speaking to the people who really matter, ie. the fans...which is more than can be said about the previous regime!

Damien, look at the positive changes we have already seen i.e. new training facilities, web site, communications, ticket price reduction, Nike kit for next season, new manager, money being spent on new players, new and realistic ambitions, new board of directors...have i missed anything??? Whats not happening is that we are no longer going backwards. So what if does not want to speak to the press, Villa fans are happier that we have been for years.

I agree with everything you've said LloydW ... but you've got some fans moaning already about the manager and respected reporters having a little pop. I love everything they are doing .. but there are other things that could be looked at; but they'll get to it eventually. When was the last time you heard a club tallk about things they weren't doing?

I used to enjoy reading Pat Murphy's articles, and often passed them on to family members to read. Sadly, this one smacks of "backing the press boys".

I may be stepping out of my element, but Mr Murphy should know this is exactly how Mr Lerner handles his ownership with the Cleveland Browns. He allows the football side to handle their own operations. Last time I checked, most media pit high-profile owners against their club's managers in an effort to ferret out a "story".

For the last time: nobody gives a DAMN how much the new Villa regime is prepared to offer lollies and candy to the press.
The only reason we read the papers is that they write about Villa - we have no affection for or loyalty to the writers whatsoever.
Our loyalty is with the club, the chairman, the manager and the players.
Shabby third-rate journalists, who may have cosied up to us Villans when we were all sick of O'Dreary, would do well to remember that.
Starting to niggle at Lerner and O'Neill is cheap third rate journalism aimed at cheap third rate fans - and there are not many so it's also seriously unintelligent.
let's forget it and move onwards and upwards.
