Patrik Berger signs a year extension with Villa

Monday, 14 May 07, 12:36 PM · Comments (7)

It's not confirmed by the official club site yet but according to Sky Sports it's a done deal.

Berger had some great games towards the end of the season and there is no doubt that if he plays like we know he can play he's a great asset to bring off the bench.

Still, the manager knows he needs to find a Berger a few years younger and the hunt is on.

I'm expecting our first singing to be announced fairly soon and at least two or three before the season starts. Happy days.

i see no problem with giving berger another year. he played well last year, especially nearing the tail end. he brings some age and experience to our youthful team

Totally agree, you need some older heads, to help keep the heads of the kids

Its not the older heads im worried about its the older leggs, Berger seemed to struggle in the bolton game, it wont hurt to keep him on but cant see him having a regular run in the team.

Berger will only last us a couple of games next season, he's had a lot of bad luck with his fitness and Easter was the only time he was fit in those 2 years. I agree that not many in the league can match his creativity and passing ability, but the pace has drifted away and we need some one with his qualities but a long career ahead of them to take his place, Steven Davis could be that replacement if he puts enough work in on the training ground, but with the various links to midfielders occuring, i don't think Davis is MO'Ns favourite for the job.

(4-4-2)GK: GORDON
RB: L.YOUNG CB: MELLBERG CB: DISTIN LB: BOUMA
RM: A.YOUNG CM: PETROV CM: SNEIJDER LM: BARRY
ST: CAREW ST: DEFOE
New signings: Craig Gordon to replace Thomas Sorensen as no.1, Sylvain Distin would probably be the best free transfer along with Steve Sidwell (who has gone to chelsea) of the summer. Luke Young from relegated Charlton would be a sneaky steal at £2million for a n excellent right back. Into midfield and Wesley Sneijder the little dutch maestro/general would dominate the midfield and form an excellent partnership with Stilian Petrov, and would provide that international class we crave in the center of the park, to make us dominate more games and move us onto the next level, with one of the brightest young talents in the game. And finally in attack Jermain Defoe, an England International, he is a proven goalscorer in the premiership which is another thing what we've craved to score us 20 goals a season to push on. He has been playing at spurs this season or should i say been on the bench for the majority, but still manages to bag 18 goals in all competitons which is very impressive for a substitute. So £8million doesn't sound to bad for a n England striker. Also with the pace and deadly finishing of JD and the strength and power of Big John Carew i predict a clinical partnership to rival any premiership sides.
