Portsmouth sack Perrin

Thursday, 24 November 05, 12:55 PM · Comments (0)

Portsmouth Chairman Milan Mandaric has sacked Alain Perrin exactly one day after he said he'd be in the job for the immediate future. Perrin has only won 4 of 21 games and is the first manager to go this season.

Portsmouth are two points and two places below Aston Villa and they have either shown their hand too early in the season or they're doing exactly the right thing by allowing a new manager to come in and have plenty of time to get to know the players before January and the next transfer window.

Mandaric took a leaf out of O'Leary's book when talking about the sacking. He said "Alain Perrin is a talented coach and a good, honest man who has worked extremely hard since his arrival in the summer."

He went on "We are all extremely grateful to him for his dedication to the club. The view taken, however, is that recent performances and the general morale amongst the squad needed improvement."

I personally think they've done the right thing (even though I had a tenner on David O'Leary been the first to go) but we'll only really know at the end of the season.

The rumours are already flying about that 'Arry Redknapp will be going back to Portsmouth and Sir Clive Woodward will be taking over at Southampton.
