Previous incumbent heading to Bolton or Ireland and some Aston Villa news and speculation

Monday, 22 October 07, 02:58 AM · Comments (8)

I've got a feeling his name will be mentioned quite a bit this week but I really don't like doing it unless it is absolutely necessary, which it may very well be now, so here goes.

David O'Leary or Gordo as I like to call him, is in line to take over at Bolton or Ireland depending on who you believe in the papers.

He is quoted as talking up Bolton at the weekend and he's also quoted as talking up the national job. What fans of Bolton have to understand is, Gordo will say whatever is best for him at that particular moment and will completely contradict himself a few minutes later if it's, you guessed it, best for him or the situation suits.

It you're Irish, you'll already know he's full of blarney but the irony is he'll probably do okay managing a bunch of players that are managed by someone else and he only gets to work with for a short period of time.

If Gordo gets the Bolton job, Bolton will be relegated. If Gordo gets the Ireland job, he may very well do okay. It's a long shot, but you never know. Miracles have happened.

In Aston Villa news, Moustapha Salifou looks set to play for the reserves tonight. I'd really like this lad to be a decent player but why do I have the feeling I'm going to get let down?

Academy star and future first team regular Nathan Delfouneso scored a hat-trick for England Under-17s; not bad going that, well done lad.

Rumours this morning include Jose Bosingwa, John Arne Riise and one that we've had by email, which I'm only mentioning because, well you never know, but apparently Martin O'Neill is interested in Steven Gerrard after Barry has come back from England duty and suggested that anything is possible as the player isn't entirely happy at Liverpool.

I'm fairly certain when I say that last one is pure speculation and probably based on the fact that Gerrard was subbed against Everton for having too much passion but it came in and I'd love it, but I know it will never happen. Still, it would certainly signal intention if we were to be going for him.

Lastly, some site news. There was a t-shirt winner as someone actually predicted 4-1 to United. I'm guessing he is a United fan but the email is sent and I'm just waiting for him to get back to me.

I also won my banker bet at the weekend and a little extra that I played 'live', so all is good. That's all folks.

Gerrard to Villa!! Whilst "anything" can happen, some things can't. Gerrard to Villa is one of them. I've never heard of anything so ridiculous! I'm a Villa fan by the way. Just a realistic one. Hopefully one day we'll be in the hunt for players like him - maybe in a few years if we're Champions League regulars.

Pretty sure the Gerrard one is purely thanks to Barry and Gerrard's England partnership. Barry moving to Liverpool is more believable but even that is a very small chance.

3 Games for carson & 1 game ban for reo-coker. Lets hope they appeal carsons ban and get it shortened. as for the gerrard rumor as villa fans we all know this could never happen and will never happen untill we're in a better position than liverpool. But maybe this is the World class signing that was talked about(lol) maybe gerrard could like the vision of villa and could have had a few chats with berger carson and barry. Love it if it happens but won't be botherd if it doesn't.

Gerrard could come to villa...When he's 35. Not a minute sooner, because if he were to leave Liverpool anytime soon, an offer from Villa would not even get passed onto his desk (if he has one). I know no one believes it, but it's a sick joke. Sidwell on the other hand, is a much more realistic target.

Yes like others have said if it was Barry heading the other way because they have formed an ok partnership then i would be worried. Gerrard wouldnt come to us no matter how much money we offered Liverpool.

Dont both Carson & NRC get 3 game bans for Red cards. If Reo Coker had just got the 1 yellow he would have been banned for 1 game so surely getting another 1 would make the ban longer?
