Randy Lerner makes $500m in one year

Friday, 21 September 07, 08:44 AM · Comments (16)

Last year our beloved new owner Randy Lerner had a reported wealth of $1.1bn., this year it's gone up to $1.6bn or just under £250,000,000.00 for us wanting to know the pound figure.

He is still a little short from being a British billionaire but if were to call on the funds of his family he'd be in by a long way.

His personal wealth means he is the 297th richest American, behind the likes of Bill Gates in top spot with $59bn. and Pierre Omidyar, founder and chairman of eBay with a healthy sum of $8.9bn., but well ahead of people like Hope Hill van Beuren who inherited her wealth on the back of Campbell Soup.

Still, I'm not going to split hairs over the dollar and pound; at these figures I wouldn't care less which one it was and I doubt that the hotel I was living in, right on the beach of some tropical island would either.

Let's hope some of it trickles into the Villa Park transfer kitty that O'Neill doesn't have/doesn't want to spend.

MON could convince the likes of Messi to come to villa park given the right funds, not that we need him. All about that homegrown talent. One of few clubs in the prem who's starting 11 all have work visas.

$1.6bn is about £800m so he's loads richer than you think. It's about 2 dollars to the pound. Maybe we'll have £100m to spend next year! Maybe he'll give me a million or two as well! I'm a season ticket holder and everything...

I think he's referring to the yearly increase as being £250k, not his overall value.

He's rich enough, and you don't stay rich by spending money just to spend it. Villa is a business, and winning equals more money for Randy and a better entertainment value for our money. I can say I've been more entertained this year. So he wants to win as it's good business, and how he goes about it is his business. I think he's done well by the fans so far, and the money spent has been MON's decision by all accounts. He certainly hasn't hurt the club, and keeping a good bottom line is something that assures the club's future, something all fans should appreciate.

We wanted a rich owner to keep up with the other clubs, and so far, he's put around $80m into players in just over a year, plus the other investments in the club. I'd say he's spending, and Villa fans are no more put upon financially than the average PL club's fans.

im aware that 1.6bn is about 800mn but when i put in that 250m i was referring to the article title and the overall jump

apologies if i didnt make that clear

Thats money in the bank, if you were to consider the wealth of his family and the controlling stake of MBNA America we are talking mega billions.

i dont think there is any controlling stake in mbna anymore .. may be wrong

As many others have said, as long as he isnt going bankrupt and puts some money into Villa i dont care about his personal fortune too much. I hope we can buy some good quality players in january if we can stay high we could hopefully convince a 15-20 goal a season man to come and then we would be a good bet for Europe.

10 points from 6 games and in 8th (i think) im happy with that. It looks as if we are making VP a hard place for teams to come and get a result. We have only lost to Liverpool at home and even that was due to a poor decision. We have beaten Fulham, Chelsea & Everton at home so i think things are looking good.

Im a very happy Villian at the moment, although the Gabby-Harewood thing looked abit worrying as did Carews injury.
