Rumour from Bill: Sebastian Eguren

Thursday, 15 May 08, 06:35 AM · Comments (13)

It's Bill Howell, so you've got to question it, but according to Bill, Martin O'Neill is interested in Sebastian Eguren.

Never heard of him? Probably made up player from a computer game that Bill was playing last night. If I'm wrong, which I am, he's probably a name Bill picked up from someone in the pub.

Sorry Bill, it's only banter, but you've either been given the name by your pal in the media office at Villa, to make up for your humiliation last night or it is absolute blarney. That's it, my new section; Blarney from Bill.

Moving on from Bill, this player is actually a real person. He's an Uruguayan who currently plays for Villarreal, on loan from the Swedish Hammarby IF.

An interesting fact about Eguren is that he tested positive for cocaine after a match in 2004 and was suspended from football for six months. He blamed coca tea.

Now, I don't know much about cocaine, but if he got away with a short suspension for saying it was in the tea, then I guess it stands up.

It's also interesting to see that some Liverpool supporters think he'll be joining them in the summer also. Maybe that's where Bill got the rumour from?

Eguren wasnt even good enough to play for Rosenborg in norwegian tippeliga, so he was sol to Hammarby, and wasnt a success there either so he was loaned out to Villareal...
He is RUBBISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

as a general rule im not too keen on total gambles. im sure MON has done his scouting work if he is interested in this guy (does anyone know which position he plays by the way!?) but id much rather we go for players i know are good players and the only gamble is whether they can hack the prem. miguel at RB i think is the best option, tho i thought he'd be a LOT cheaper than the £8m rumoured a week or two ago. like the sound of diego in CM if we sell barry too. hes always looked class when ive seen bremen play (which is, urm, loads obviously!)

Eguren played very well in Hammarby, despite what Eivind Ottar Hanssen says ,and I think playing for the spanish second best(?)team Villa(!)real says, if not all, so a great deal. I believe he´s a late bloomer and should be considered as a serious choice.

The swedish league goes in slow motion as you can see at youtube, but if he has adapted to the pace in the game in Spaine, and has been a regular player for Villareal, okay... Dont think he would performe in Premierleague, though.Would maybee be an ok squadplayer.

Eguren is a good player. It would be very special for me to see him in a Villa-shirt, because I've played against him in the UEFA CUP, when he played with Hammarby..!! ;D

Eguren did play for Rosenborg after being recommended along with Alejandro Lago (now rosenborg) by the Schalke 04 south-america scout Terje Liveroed.

Neither of them were given the chance to play regular, even though training reports said they were class. Eguren was then loaned and sold to Hammarby were he got to play regular and played really well, and now on loan to Villareal. He is a good player, but I would say Villa got a better one in Petrov.
